Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Thinking of selling my Predator V2's for Dominator V2's but keeping the Tx and camera. Has anyone else done the same if so how much better were the dominator?

relatively new to the RC Flying scene, but been racing nitro RC's for about 5 years

Fancied a go at flying a micro heli to terrorize around the house, went to a model expo with my son a few weeks ago and saw a demonstration of this micro drone with camera, and was amazed by its agility, so got the wallet out and paid the man.

Given it a few goes at flying now and i must say im mightly impressed with this thing, but worried its going to get expensive.

Dunno if anybody has heard of this model but i will post a link to anybody interested

Well that was a scary flight with the 250, was showing a housemate down the field, all going well, pulled off 8-9 flips/rolls no issues. I thought it would be fun to do a high altitude climb, given that it was a windy day, not so fun

It went up ok, but maybe got around 90 meters and found the model was a bit to far out radius wise, and a bit too high and far out without FPV on this small 250 model!

Tried to correct it only getting the orientation wrong and completely made it go further out, with the wind talking it a hell of a lot further, I thought right I can either try and correct this, or drop the altitude, but I would have had no idea where it was going to drop, so risk loosing it.

After battling trying to find the orientation I managed to correct it and find a path back

I thought that 250 was a goner

No more showing off at this point :p

but came back after some fun, with no broken props :D and no crashes

I have had that happen once or twice, can get very hairy if you can't get orientation back fast. You get very comfortable with the orientation once you have been flying a bit and just predict it after a while, you also have less panic set in if you ever lose it again. It can be very torturous in acro when the quad can just flip and fall from the sky if you get it too wrong.

Yeh certainly not fun :) it was in angle self levelling mode for this. I only switch modes when im doing flips at this stage and then flick back.

Glad I managed to stay calm and collected though to get it back in course and didnt cave in, just keep the altitude up and I will eventually get orientation back, and I did.

I really want to use my FPV kit now aswel, not that I will have it set-up soonish if I do recieve it, I have an exam to prepare for. Hopefully soon

Decided to use the little RC money I have this month and spend it on a mobius that will be used on my 250 and 450, instead of LED stuff, that can wait, not bought it yet but going to look around, cheapest I am seeing them for is £52, unless someone is getting rid of one on here :D

Recently got a very amateur Quadcopter for my birthday and have to say I am loving it! I've had a few scares so far...
- Accidentally flew it out over the mezzanine and hit a wall, causing it to drop to the tiles a floor below
- Flew it into several other walls
- Flew it into the top of a tree outside around 15m high, fell to the ground
- Someone else flew it into a bush at high speed
- Someone else flew it into the ground at high speed (broke a propeller)
- My boss flew it into a wall
- My colleague flew it into a wall or table
- Girlfriend crashed it upside down

And now finally we arrive at last night. I was using it outside my girlfriend's house, and got a little too close to the guttering (no FPV), a propeller clipped the gutter and flew off, causing it to drop onto the top of the conservatory and get stuck, right in the middle of the conservatory's guttering on the INSIDE side (one of those conservatories where it goes up and down). I then spent a good hour or so (and a trip back home to get an extendable golf ball retriever) poking it along and pulling it from the other side, running to each side of the ~12m conservatory with a step ladder every 5 seconds.

Sum total of the incident is 1 missing propeller and 1 snapped propeller, as well as a lot of water and dirt and an arm which was sticking out of place (luckily this snapped back in).

Result after all of this? Still going strong and I still have another spare propeller! For £30, I can't believe how much fun this is and it's definitely going to get me into the scene :)! I'm just glad I'm learning on something cheap as I know I'd be put off if it was anything more serious (for now).

This is all with a Hubson X4 by the way.

My Fatshark predator V2 has arrived, and didnt get stopped in customs :D so iv saved myself around £35 on customs charges

Now just need to find some time to set it up, and find the best mounting places

Just about to order

Cool, better locks and signal?

I just had a first go FPV, its weird, I strapped it temp to my 450. I didnt trust it on my 250 first go

The batteries were not charged for the headset, and I dont have my antenna upgrades yet (not ordered them just yet). The screen flickered a little, went out to a radius of around 90 meters, and had a little fizzle in the video, I guess that will go with properly charged batteries. And even more better with an antenna upgrade.

It gets a little scary when your flying back in your direction and you can hear it, it sounds close but really its not that close. Had a few bumpy landings but managable. I will get used to it

Does the picture quality increase aswel as signal with the upgraded antenna?

Also, does this suck much from your onboard lipo? i had the balance plug from my lipo plugged in to it

DJ, the drain on your battery is negligible using FPV.

There will always be interference on the video feed, but the CP antenna will reduce it and offer a lot more omnidirectional signal.

Cool good to know, going to have another blast tomorrow, I'm going to put together a small mountable housing for my 450 quad, so I can mount it in said housimg and then just mount in on my 450, saves wiring it inside the model, hopefully make it quicker to switch between models. Can just take the bits out and mount it in the 250

I also found there was quite a large difference in quality, especially white balance after messing with the settings of the FPV camera.

Iv not had a look at the camera settings didn't know there was any apart from manual focus :p

Unless your talkimg about when attached to a gopro

Today i'm having a huge clearout of old RC kit, lots new and unsured. It'll be on the various FB groups
