Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Was just checking how to configure rate or manual mode, as I couldn't see it in base flight. So basically if no mode is selected (ie if I use my switch third position) not assigned to anything, this puts it In rate mode (aka across/manual)

I threw my diatone props in the bin. They were far to stiff and out of balance and caused my quad to be so twitchy and unpredictable it was unflyable. It was so bad the craft would litterally fall out the sky.

Went back to gemfans which have much more flex. I've flown with 3 damaged and chipped gemfans and been more stable than I was with fresh diatones.

Maybe its the diatone props causing that then, they are pretty crap tbh, and so easy to break.

I'm hoping its just those out of balance that's causing my vibrations

Cool will pick up some gemfans, guess they are more durable? As they are a little more expensive I don't want to go through masses of them.

Downloaded the amber soundpack for the taranis, will poke about with this tomorrow I think. Going to see if there are other sound packs about also

Anyone used the OpenTX Speaker?

Looks like it uses Microsofts text to speech voices, seeing if there is a way to select more or install more voices.

Either than or im just going to go for the Amber sound pack, although I find the amber one a little slow (or use Microsoft zira desktop voice) through open tx speaker

Just took out the micro SD card and renamed the original sounds folder to backup, copied on the Amber ones, will see how I get on with this lady for a bit :D, not sure why they put "Rate mode active" and all the other modes without "active" at the end

I just use 'acro mode' and amber is just sexy, I like the fact it sounds like my handbox is trying to seduce me every time I turn her on ;)

Im warming to her voice :D

Nice and calming

Need to do some more customising to my tx. What next :)

Should just cut it. I'm sitting INA field now and was flying fpv. Just getting into the swing of things and some dog walkers show up so I have to land. I wouldn't care but they are just standing 5feet away throwing a ball doing no walking at all.

Getting some nice proximity flying in though, nice to have something for height reference instead of an open field!

Cool, I can pick them up cheaper than anything else, so I may get two of them

I may go and have a blast with the 250 as the sun is sort out out. Running out of props though so had to order some today,

Walking back now from the field, I'm down around 4 packs of props, a Möbius lens and a vtx but it was awesome ha. I had ordered a smaller vtx so I'm not entirely fussed and I should be able to repair the old one but the Möbius took a hard hit into a fence. I wouldn't care I really started to get warned up towards the end and started to unleash some speed in the trees. Battery's all flat though so the long walk home was initiated!

Nice :D how many props are you tending to go through? Sounded like you hit the fence hard :D

I have just done around 3 props, I think there must have been two props with slight cracks, as two of them broke up in flight, luckily I wasnt going very fast and not too high.

I still feel that I am not so confident on the controls with these things, :( you really need to keep concentrated and really put some control concentration in. I am bringing the throttle down a bit to get some basic controls in again. I can go faster but still could result in bad times, or ok.

just hours put in that make the difference, the more you fly the more comfortable you get with it.

Im going through maybe 2 or 3 props when I fly, sometimes non but today is the first time I have flow around any obstacles and only my second real fpv flight and I got cocky, it started to gel though and was great fun. today I used like 16 props :O but ill upload the video and you will see why :D

Fair enough :p *awaits video*

Is it easier flying these things with FPV or a lot harder? FPV on my 450 isnt so bad.

I dont think I would want to go through 16 props :p

I had a chance today to try out Acro mode for the second time (first time only got 5 minutes as it was too windy and started to get horses coming my way) anyway so much more fun then angle or horizon, just feels like I'm not having to fight for control.

I swapped my 9XR for a Taranis, upped my rate's etc and been using Phoenix RC to practise flying in acro/rate mode.

This is my first time attempting rolls. I tried back flips a few months back in Horzion mode and just crashed so this was the first time attempting flips since then. I still need to tune my PID's a little. Also I used angle mode to take off and to land (will try using acro mode for both next time).

Mine from today

Everyone elses models sound so much smoother

I am not sure where the vibration or the louder noise than everyone elses is coming from, maybe different motors, I only had my camera strapped on with some leccy tape, or maybe its the props im using.

Nice video above ash

Thanks, good job flying acro LOS, what camera are you using? I have mine on rubber dampener balls so maybe yours is vibration like you say.

I have mine on some vibration dampners, its a Diatone 250 Silver blade, although there still appears to be some vibration and generally in flight seems more noiser than others, I havnt mounted the camera on properly yet. Mobius 1080p wide angle lens version.

I was in horizon mode and angle mode.

Im hoping once I get the gemfan props it shoud be a little better.

Ah sorry my mistake, any reason you went for gemfans over HQ?

I dont know, iv not had this 250 long, someone suggested gemfans.

I guess they cost a little less too, maybe will look at HQ, when I am breaking less props during sessions

Could the cheap diatone props im using now be causing this in flight vibration assuming the balance is rubbish on them? and the noise? As I said to others on here yesterday, iv been over my model, and nothing is loose

Only thing I can spot is one of the arms has a slight thickness increase on the others. Manufacturing thing by the looks
