Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

You going to run the RX1104s on those?
I've got a set of them waiting to pop on to my Diatone Blade 150. Just waiting for props at the moment.

Where did you order the frame from? LiftRC who are the RotorX exclusive dealer want flipping nearly $40 to ship to the UK.

So no one in the UK sells these yet? These will look like Hubsan x4's on sterroids I assume? :D Look awesome!

Not the frames, no. And the small motors are quite hard to come by as well. But yeah, like a hubsan with roid rage. And FPV :)

Either those or the DYS equivalent I think. Both are pretty similar although RotorX are threatening an improved version soon. DYS ones should be in the UK soon along with suitable props.......

I got the frames from Paragon UAV. They were cheap so I wasn't worried about not having tracking. I think they took 12 days to get here and below the magic customs level for charging import duty too.

Banggood will have the 3020 props in 3 days apparently

Ta, ordered one of each and some props from the same place.

BTW, those 1104s are absolutely tiny. About the diameter of a 5p coin and about 1cm tall.

Hi all - looking for some advice on a camera platform.

I sold all my (very) expensive helicopter and drone equipment last year as I just wasn't getting the time to use it all (esp with starting uni). However, I've really started to get back into video production (there are modules for it in my degree) so I'm looking to buy an RTF camera platform.

I already have a GoPro Hero 4 Black so I was looking at the DJI Phantom 2 V3 with H4-3D gimball but then I started looking more and I currently like the look of a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced- so I'm undecided on using a drone with integrated camera or one without. I suppose the advantage of integrated is I can use my GoPro for multicam shots.

Are there any other models to consider? I don't mind building one but I want to keep down the "tinkering time" this time around - I just want to go somewhere, get it out of the box, fly, film, put it back in the box and charge when I get home.

Budget is under £1k.

Seen a tarot 690s on ebay that comes with motors, ecs, props, and apm 2.8 and compass for 270 plus custom charges then gimbal could be had for around 60 then radio gear 120 for a decent devo 10 and receiver obviously all the bits from abroad failing the you can get 1 built for you

I find phantoms bit overpriced for what they are

The Yuneec Q500+ 4k is getting a lot of good press at the moment. Seems like a solid platform with a decent camera (not quite as good as the P3 Pro though) and a handheld mount for the camera included.

My money would go on a P3 Pro though. It's only a little more expensive than the Advanced but you can film in 4k and downsample to 1080p. Unless you're only interested in stills in which case I'd go for the Advanced.

The key benefit of the P3 over the P2 is the integrated platform. The HD video feed and ability to control camera setting in flight makes it a superb platform. Although the camera may be a teeny bit worse than the H4B, the fact that you have to set the H4B and only know if your video is any good once you go home makes the P3 more likely to get your shots right first time.

I fly an Inspire which is more or less the same camera as the P3 Pro and I've never found the camera wanting. TBH, I get better results with the Inspire than I do with my S900 and Sony Nex 7 simply due to the ability to change settings mid flight. I've flown the Inspire many times this summer whereas the S900 has sat on the bench.

This is a decent platform if you want to fiddle about. What you pay for with the Phantom 3 is the HD downlink which can't be had in any way without spending more than the Phantom costs in just the video gear alone, and the fact that you can have it un in the air and filming 2 minutes after charging the batteries. No messing about, no tuning gains, no flashing ESCs, no selecting the right props, no gimbal PID tuning.

Right while ive been banned for 2 days i think i have read every review going on fpv drones!

Its definitely going to be a phantom 3 for me.

The money saved by a phantom 2 just isnt worth it.

Just wish DJI would realease the firmware for the advanced and then i would know for sure that its getting 2.7k

Going by the meltdown on DJI forums when somebody cut and pasted the stuff from the closed beta it does look like we are getting 2.7k, follow me and POI and waypoints which is all really cool. Oh and 2x digital zoom for what thats worth.

If i new for sure Id push the button the advanced today. Can get it fopr up to £200 less than the pro and a the 100w charger can be had for £50 if i am that bother. The other £150 buys a battery and a few accessories to go with the advanced.

I missed a dealer selling brand new pros for £875 this week while I was making my mind up :(. He only had 5 and sold them within an hour. Thats the cheapest ive ever seen them but can be had for just over £900 delivered from Germany.

What kind of prices are you finding the advanced one at? Cheapest I've found in the UK is £825 but I can't link here (competitor) and that's for an ex display.

I'll be buying mid Sep when the first installment of my student loan comes in.

Brand new 776 from Germany dealers. Use skinflint.co.uk. They seem to make over 700 second hand on eBay which is daft. Great euro to pound conversion atm. Hate the fact dji have fixed the UK price. Pro is only 800 direct from dji in the states so should be 960 with vat. Advanced about 770.

Well I've finally joined the club :D

Got a rucksack and spare blades. Will be ordering a second battery too. What else are essential accessories?

Prop guards?
Tracker ( in case I loose it)
Somebody mentioned public liability insurance too?

Are they that much better than other brands? I dont want to have to wait for them to come from the states and I can get some others much quicker?

Yeah shipping is more than the item! I think its £7 for the knobs and £14 for shipping which is a joke tbh for two small pieces of silicon.

Ill order some cheaper and quicker delivery and see how I go.

Can't decide over prop guards yet either..................

I was looking in Paypal history for this, but yeah it was around £20.

Another item you might want to look at is the camera/gimbal guard. The one that comes with it can be a bit fiddly to get on, and wasnt even connected when I got my P3P. It was lying in the box.

I got this. Its pricey but does the job well. Again have a look around for something similar and cheaper.

Review of it here
