Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Yeah, if you hunt around you can save about £20 ish on them. What is mad is that I've seen used ones on the bay go for anything up to £80!

I did see a few on the bay but like you said there are that many fakes so I just popped to my local store and picked one up, I was only going to get some ND filters but thought I mas as well get a battery while I was there.

Ebay is ridiculous for used DJI stuff, People may aswell buy new for the prices stuff goes for

Seller on well known auction site was doing a special offer on them with 17% off. Worked out at something like £102 Inc postage. Normally I'd be wary of buying something like this on eBay as it's full of dodgy copies but the seller has guaranteed me that these are genuine DJI units in retail packaging.

If the battery firmware updates then it should be ok. The DJI app will tell you if its dodgy, but I know what you mean by buying from ebay.

No IOC modes, just manual. Haven't even tried those yet but will at some point. Just trying to get the hang of manual flying while operating the gimble at the same time.

I did take a video of me circling the entire site or at least I thought I did, I had taken some photo's and it hadn't finished doing it's thing when I pressed the record button so when I come to press it to stop recording it started it instead and recorded me landing and walking off with the P3P in my hand. Was really gutted about that :D

Yep been there done that. I did a perfect 360 of a sailing boat and when I got home just had a video of it flying back and landing. Gutted.

Cool. I honestly thought you were using Course Lock in some parts, but if you weren't then that's some nice, smooth flying there. :)

Thanks, I was quite happy with how smooth it was when I reviewed the footage.

When I saw the duration of the clip I thought there's no way it took 5 minutes to circle the site and when i watched it I realised what happened, Not a good feeling haha.

what is to stop people buying whatever lipo cells they need ( be it 2/3/4 cell lipo) and soldering the correct connector on for the parrot. Places like hobbyking sell loads of lipo's as i buy from there for my RC planes.

Just curious as the cost of a battery for these seems expensive.

Been answered already but it's essentially because their batteries are SMART batteries and they have firmware on them...

Guess it stops dodgey batteries being used and having them fall out the sky or such things. I can use whatever I need to on my 250, but even flying that you can see why cheaper batteries aren't a good idea

Anyone here use git2 action cam as my sj5000 has given up the ghost it's been playing up for a while since it was in a crash on my f550

Thinking of getting the git2 as I'm not to keen spending go pro money

Any P3S pilots here had the reduced Wi-Fi range on 1.6.80 firmware?

I might set up my new P3S later and not sure whether to update it to the latest firmware or leave it.

Finally, and I dunno if you have already switched everything on for the first time or not but be aware that the latest firmware update which is 1.6.80 has screwed up many peoples range. Although mine has been fine, YMMV. There is however a 1.7.82 firmware floating around the PhantomPilots forums unofficially (goodness knows where the guy got it from) which hasn't been officially released as yet but 'should' be out this week sometime:-

http://www.phantompilots.com/threads/new-firmware-1-7-8-01-07-0082-p3s.85478/

1.7.8 is the one you want, 1.6.80 is the one causing issues. so either stay on 1.5 or jump to 1.7.8

Be aware, 1.7.8 is still only available as a beta, most folk have been fine with it but I'd be careful with it and stick with 1.5 at the moment until an official DJI release is announced. That said, I'm on 1.6.80 at the minute with no huge issues, so as I said earlier YMMV.

Yeah been a while thought I'd ask again. I'll check what it's on later. Might already be on 1.6. Im just thinking if I get a warranty issue with it DJI might refuse responsibility if it's not up to date on the firmware.

Well it's a nice day here time to get he bird out the box I reckon.

I'm off to a BBQ with friends from work, going to take the Phantom with me and see if I can get some nice footage as the weather is pretty good here today too. :)

Good start. Just took it out the box and the gimble guard is not on properly so the camera is dangling. That couldn't of been good for it while it's been transported.

Also 2 plastic inserts that go through the rubbers that connects the gimbal to the phantom are missing, is this normal? Don't know why it would be.

Only 2x bobbins have pins in, that's normal. Put loose tie wraps through the other two.
Camera gimbal guard always comes off. It's not the best design.

Mine got mullered by it. 200 to 300m range max when prior i could go 3 miles no problems.
