Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

No they didn't, at least not in my case.

I was a pre-order and my account was not debited at or near the time of order. My card was only charged once the products had begin shipping. Not to be confused with when my order was shipped.

Of course the very definition is of a 'pre-order' is something that isn't yet available or released. I'm not sure why you seem to have a bee in your bonnet about DJI. Have you been burnt by them in the past?

No particular bee in my bonnet - just following them for the past few years and finally taken the plunge and ordered a Mavic Pro. There's been lots of chat about DJI taking orders (and payment) for the Mavic when they have, now acknowledged, not had the capability to fulfil those orders. Their recent email to all early pre-orders confirmed this. In my case, order mid October, confirmed shipping in 7 - 10 days, payment taken, now confirmed that production is delayed and shipping likely to deliver 7-8 weeks later.

Hey all,

Been out the game for a while, although my brothers girlfriend is asking if there are any multi-rotors on the market at the moment that are between £100-£150 maybe £200 that would carry a gopro and get good footage.

Iv not had any involvement other than a 250 racing build which I sold earlier this year, and a DJI F450 which I had built from scratch with a Naza V2 GPS, it would be a lot more for something like this.

I think she is after a prebuilt one, however no idea about whats good or not or available on the market and if something for £100-£150 is not going to be worth it

Not a lot tbh....assume you're after a photography type quad really? One that has altitude hold and the like? Otherwise the footage may be jerky.

You could look at the Syma x8c range for a budget, however they won't have the filming cabalities as say a phantom does.

Saying that, there are a lot of second hand phantoms going up for sale lately.

After seeing some of the guys on DRL I started watching a few of their Youtube video's and came across this one from JohnnyFPV. It's got to be the best video I have seen this year, His style is amazing and the rebound off the tree at 1:24 is mindblowing.

Getting more and more used to flying the beast. Not ready for LOS ACRO mode yet, still rocking horizon mode.

I've got an old motorbike backpack which is perfect, fits the taranis inside, and enough space for a bottle of water and a sandwich, props in the front pocket and multiple battery packs. Then the quad on the back. Doesn't weigh much at all. And no, the sticks on the Taranis are not under any form of pressure at all unless I fall back into something lol.

The Mavic arrived today. Had a place in my lounge, which was a mistake as it kicked up dust everywhere.

It's so much nicer than the Hexo+ I have before. Build quality if far superior. The former felt like it was 3D printed. The ability to turn off all the 'nanny/safety' parameters is good too.

I can't for the life of me find and get it into tripod mode though.

I read a review on it, and it said it was in the Intelligent flight modes menu (POI, Active tracking, waypoint, etc). You can access it by tapping on quad icon on the left in the camera mode screen.

Not too sure if that's him, I don't tend to go on that forum but yeah his flying is amazing.

DJI announced the P4 Pro and the inspire 2. Those guys are on a roll!

Yeah just seen the videos on youtube - both look epic!

To be able to fly for 30 mins recording 4k @ 100 mbps at up to 60 fps is pretty damn cool!

The Inspire 2 will cost both kidneys so I won't even consider it but that also looks damn sweet!

Rilot - you going to trade up from your Inspire 1 X5? ;)

Incredible videos. The P4 Pro looks simply awesome. I was sold on the Mavic as an upgrade from my P3 for next year but now I'm not so sure.

As for the Inspire 2. Wow. Just wow. Game changer.

Watch the vids.

Be amazed.

And the short film itself. Every single frame of this was shot using the Inspire 2.

I have Zero interest in buying or owning anything DJI make, but MAN, do they keep knocking it out' the park! What a piece of kit the P4 Pro is, and it's not even that expensive. I almost wish I was into that sort of thing so I could get one.

Also, thanks @spookywillow for the JohnnyFPV vid. I've never actually seen him fly as I've gone off freestyle videos lately. They all seem to have got a bit similar. This one's great though.

30 minute flight time and 4K/60fps. Absolutely nailed it as far as I'm concerned. Making an complete joke of the GoPro 5 as well.

I'll be replacing the P2 with this.

I don't think so. The I2 doesn't really give me anything new that I particularly need. The dual-cameras would be a no-brainer if I was flying dual-operator though.
It's a lot of money for a whole bunch of features I would never use. I don't need collision avoidance because I never fly in close proximity to anything.

Both look good but don't add enough to warrant an upgrade for existing users I don't feel. We've got two P4's that we've used extensively this year and they've been fantastic.

True but it's like any other market, people want the latest and greatest, they will soon sell and everyone else will just get hardly used 'old' tech for a bit cheaper ;)

My next craft will be the Mavic I expect. It solves a specific problem for me that the Inspire and P4 do not (extreme portability).
I'll keep flying the I1 as it does everything I want from a camera platform.

How good is the Mavic Pro in windy conditions? or what is the general guide for drones and wind speed.

I'm hoping to get this before my next trip to Iceland in March, when I was there last year it was quite windy but on my next trip I want to do video from a drone and not just from my DSLR.

No quad is great in the wind tbh...Phantoms/Inspire will give you a warning if it's too windy.

The below shows you how it does cope though, they do it surprisingly well even when left alone.

Thats actually better than I expected....

Would the smaller size of the Mavic compared to the Phantom 4 Pro make it better, worse or about the same?

I've pretty much decided to get the Mavic anyway as the size means it will get used more.. carrying all my DSLR and a Phantom 4 is a little bit of a pain.

phantoms are pretty great in the wind. Ive seen mine at 45 degrees to keep itself in position.

The Mavics arent meant to be quite as good though and wont fly in as strong a wind.
