Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

watching the video the hover looks so stable

Its strange to let it just sit there and hover on its own, pretty stable though.

Very happy so far with the nazza, its so much better for video work as you can leave it hover in one place and concentrate on moving the camera around with the transmitter.

Coming on nicely their Rilot. Going to be a sweet machine when done :D Bet you can't wait for the maiden flight.

Trust me in a few weeks and everything should be built/balanced etc :p
Awesome, much appreciated :)

Ordered a prop balancer but in the meantime I'm a bit confused as to how you actually fit a prop onto them. Every video I've seen shows the prop with a hole in the middle already but all ours have the screw part fitted in the middle and can't see any obvious way of removing that. Probably really easy and a stupid question once you know but...
I'm puzzled - are you not using the stock motors and props on the phantom? You should just be able to remove the bolt from the top and remove the propeller.

Ive sold my transmitter so no flying for a bit :(

So im looking for a new one ive been looking the following

HK Orange T Six
Spektrum dx6 or dx7
JR xj7
Or the dx7 with compatible orange receiver

Which do you think will be better or any other rrecommendations

Get the frsky taranis if you can.

I have a dx6i also pretty basic compared to the taranis but works ok.

How do I maximise the range of my P2? What transmitter should I get that will support Zenmuse gimbal pitch change etc?

Just ordered the plastic undertray for the Fatshark TX from shapeways :D

Also, as per previous post, is changing to Naza-M mode worth it and if I want a "stunt" quad for fun (and for a reasonable price), what should I be looking at?

Thanks, and sorry for the irritating, noob posts!

I dont know if I want to mess with the controller that has open source different software dont want to end up crashing models with wrong software on the transmitter

My Taranis is still on the firmware it came with, and works perfectly out of the (very nice aluminium flight-case :)) box for pretty much everything you would need on a multicopter, I think.

Oh, and it has several different model memories and it binds each model memory in the tx to a receiver so you can't accidentally fly the wrong one!

Indeed. It's fab.

I'll be trusting £5k of multirotor to mine. I have complete confidence in the radio after logging many hours with my Phantom and F550 using it.
I used to use Spektrum DX8 but I ditched it after I tried the Taranis and realised just how good it is.

How many of you are members of a flying club? I'm thinking of joining one this year, as I'm going to dust off and upgrade my tricopter. Up til now (well, not in the rubbish weather) I've just used a couple of local parks early in the morning. Only had a few confused looks from dog walkers and park keepers, not been turfed out yet. However, on my last flight last year, I very nearly hit a car at ~30mph air speed. Luckily it was my car and no one saw, but it really hit home how important insurance could be one day :D

There's a club near me but they seem to do helicopters and planes more than anything so I'm not sure how welcome I'd be. I've been using a local park and confusing the dog walkers and kids too. I make sure I don't fly anywhere near the road and avoid flying it above members of the public at all costs, landing it if too many people are around.

Ive flashed mine to the latest firmware, its very easy, the stock firmware works great too.

I dont use my dx6i much now,its a piece of junk compared to the taranis.

Something small, the smaller it is the easier it is to flip etc as there's far less moment of inertia.

A lot people build their own acro frames as you'll crash far more often being able to make a new arm out of a bit of 10x10mm wood is far cheaper. On the other hand you can get a Teslaquad from a guy called teslahead on www.multi-rotor.co.uk he even has a list of recommended components too.

Looks like Hobbyking have pulled their flight controller with GPS from the store, I wonder why?

I'm still trying to decide between APM and MultiWii, anyone tried both?

Not tried both but I have an APM, I'm sure you've done your research so I won't bore you with features but from using it for a few months now it really is fantastic, easily the best all round FC out there IMHO.

Which flight controller was that? The KK2.1?
I think the Quanum has been pulled, the one everyone was saying is a Naza clone when it was only the case that looked similar :)
