Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Are you getting at the fact that some props with bolt style prop mounts come in CW and CCW mounts, so that the torque of the motors doesn't loosen the props?
Brushless motors can spin either direction by swapping 2 cables around, I believe that some speed controllers allow the motor to change direction too to reverse on cars - not something you'll see on aircraft though.

Do the anti-jello (anti-vibration) mounts for the DJI Phantom fit the Phantom 2 by any chance? I'm assuming so seeing as the Zenmuse will fit to both?

Just realised I ordered our Phantom dual battery mount from HK by mistake so won't be here for 4 weeks :(. Everything else sorted though so will just have to stick with one battery for now and take it out this weekend.

When flying FPV, does anyone know the best way of keeping on top of battery levels? Obviously you can't see the Phantom's back LED which flashes red when low but is there a way of somehow making that visible to the FPV cam? Or do you just set a timer on your phone or something to start the return journey?

Can anyone recommend a decent soldering iron, or if your American, a 'soddering' iron :p

Pick up a cheap adjustable soldering station from somewhere like Cr*plin (or online), I bought one for about £15 and it's lasted years, was perfect for soldering up ESC/motor plugs etc.

Just using a timer on my tx at the moment, will get an osd later on.

As above, I got one from Toolstation that was about £7 and it's absolutely fine. No base though but I don't use it enough to warrant the need especially as it has a rest on the handle.

It seems at least for the Fatshark stuff, you can get a micro-telemetry board that does this alongside other functionality, I'm struggling to find one online though.

EzOSD seems another option but looking at it, I'm not sure how it wires up!

Which tools do I need to terminate my own cables into the tiny connectors?

I would recommend setting a timer on your transmitter but you can't do that so you can do like you say and set a phone timer. The other option would be to solder in a battery alarm which would be an easy mod. The final option would be to buy an OSD, that'll overlay the data on your video.

I set a timer on my Tx and an OSD.

Has anyone here done their BNUC-S with thought of providing professional services ?

Reason I ask is some press media company approached me about aerial footage, and without CAA approval is a no go :-(

I looked at that... £1400 for the course and exams. Depends how much you expect to make from the commercial jobs and how much work you'd get. Not sure if GoPro footage would cut it for commercial work, either... I'll stick to flying for fun, I reckon!

yeah I think you're right... it's just a shame because on occasion you might be able to make a little cash, and you know you can't legally do it

I haven't even flown my setup yet and I've already been asked if I can do some flyby footage (would probably work out at about half an hour's worth of video), I'd be paid and it's on private property... Hmm...

I live in Bristol and we've got the Fatshark Predator v2 :).
:D Awesome! Well if you are happy for me to head over at some time for a look at some point in the future that would be massively appreciated!

I've got the X2212-13 980Kv motors on my TBS Discovery, they're fantastic and really smooth with a fair amount of grunt. I get about 16 mins flight time on a 4S 4000mAh with 9x5 Carbon blades too so they're pretty frugal too (AUW is ~1.5kg), that's at the almost falling out of the air point though so 12-14 mins safely.
Think I'm going to have to eyeball 4S, the 980s are clearly the more popular choice. I'm surprised at the price of them really, as cheap as the NTMs but without any of the quality issues!

Isn't that what Rilot is doing?
