Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Yup, I'm preparing for my BNUC-S at the moment. I've not got the S800 EVO built yet and unfortunately, you have to take the flight exam on the craft you intend to fly commercially.
Hoping to sit the ground course and exam some time in March, with the flight exam in April after I've written my flight operation manual (that's the tough part).

Just taken the Phantom out for a test with the new propellers and it's all over the place, almost like it was very windy and/or GPS was turned off.

Do I just need to balance the props or do I need to make some adjustments and tweaks to the DJI software because of the new prop length?

Probably vibration from badly balanced props. I'd definitely check them. I don't see why a different set of props (providing they are all good) would make it handle badly.
It is likely that vibration is upsetting the gyros causing the FC to overcompensate on movement.

Took the Blade 350qx out for its maiden flight just now... I need more batteries this is so much more fun than my Blade mQX :)

Thinking 5 should do it and I might get 1 hour of play time :D

Went to fly my quad, only to find I've got a lose connection somewhere, one of the props wasn't spinning properly. When adding throttle it would spin one way for a bit then back the other, unplugged a few bits and found it was fine if I hadn't placed the battery in the flight position, so seems it's pressing against a cable causing it to lose connection or something :(

Decided I might as well use this opportunity to start planning a new frame, so everything is dismantled and spread out so I can start taking some measurements. Need to dig out a saw so I can start cutting down some of the plastic tubing I intend to use as the frame so I can plan cable routing - I aim for it to be significantly tidier than my old build! Will also plan for where I'll place fpv related gear too.

Flew the phantom 2 today. Had an altercation with a tree at low altitude but its fine. I'll open her up tomorrow to check all the connections are in solidly. This thing is very robust!

Landing and powerdown took a bit of getting used to.

Great fun!

Should I be changing to naza-m mode with pc assistant? What are the benefits?

Also, I've decided I want a stunt quad that can do flips and rolls and stuff if that's possible? Any suggestions?

Just ordered a balancer so hopefully that's it, thanks. Was pretty scary, it's never done that before but fortunately I was in a massive open space with no people.

I think I'm going to have to build one of these bloody things to actually understand how to do everything. Buying one RTF is great, but adding stuff on tends to lead to confusion... :D

Thinking of buying a ready built f450 or maybe buying the parts and building it myself.

Either way I need to decide on a radio receiver and transmitter. I would like to keep cost down (£200) for both but at the same time if there is something much better got a little more then I would spend more. I would like to be able to control a zenmuse h3-2d from it too. Any ideas?

FrSky Taranis if you can get hold of one, best bang for buck around, loving mine

First test with the nazza lite,Tarot 650 frame and tarot gopro gimbal & taranis:

Pretty happy bearing in mind i didnt have the video transmitter setup so couldnt see
what she was filming.

Just need to drop the gains a touch on the nazza as she starts to oscillate when i give her a lot of thrust.

Just been out for my P2s maiden flight, pretty windy but GPS did it's job well thankfully :) Just need someone to replicate the battery or DJI to lower the price as ~20 minutes isn't enough!

I now have a lot greater control over my x4 and can do arched turns around my front room, fly back to front more, through corridors and am generally more precise.

I still crash a lot so the prop is very handy. Suppose I wouldst be trying hard enough if I didn't crash!

Good stuff! Being able to actually fly makes things so much more fun and having fun makes your flying even better :D

Ordered a prop balancer but in the meantime I'm a bit confused as to how you actually fit a prop onto them. Every video I've seen shows the prop with a hole in the middle already but all ours have the screw part fitted in the middle and can't see any obvious way of removing that. Probably really easy and a stupid question once you know but...

watching the video the hover looks so stable

I've nearly got the S800 EVO built. I spent 4 hours on it yesterday and have finished the landing gear and gimbal. Centre plate is laid out and just needs all wiring together now.

It's bloody big

Took the Blade 350 out again today... first battery in Smart Mode, but second I started chucking it around in Stability Mode, not going to try Agility mode until I get my prop adapters and carbon props installed.

Stability Mode has auto leveling and GPS but not altitude lock, almost wish it did as I think the DJI has that in its equivalent mode.

Smart Mode has a height restriction of about 150 feet but Stability Mode is only limited by the transmitter/reciever (if you want to maintain control) I am really impressed with its climb rate and maneuvering in this mode and took it to probably 200-225 feet... can't wait to get my carbon props on and start chucking it about in Agility Mode :D
