Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Bullet connectors are a must on the motors/ESCs, makes crashes that involve losing bits far less painful

e: at >38cm wooden booms are very breakable, at <35cm, far, far less so in my (un)scientific tests

You're quite right, my Tri has taken a few knocks (nothing major yet) but it's holding up well.

Guys, is it possible to add an OSD to the Fatshark Predator V2 system that doesn't cost £100+? I see the ezOSD is compatible but thats £100 odd.

iOSD Mini? That's what I use.

EDIT: Sorry, that needs a CAN Bus connection... not sure if it'd work?

i think ive blown my motors if they are connected to the receiver direct and apply thottle slowly it spin slowly and starts juddering and getting very hot both ESC and receiver, now the second one spins at full revs but one of the connecting wires (ESC>Motor) gets very very hot

Just tried a the ESC from my heli and the motor jumping and going mad and getting hot, so it looks like its my motors.

The only thing that i have done to them is that i cut the shaft down, but did put it in a bag and pop the shaft though.

Anything else i can try dont want to buy another 4 motors

Oh god, don't follow my cabling. It's a mess.
I'm going to tidy it up this weekend by removing the case from the iOSD, taking an internal tap from the board for the CAN port and mounting it all inside the shell.

It's neater than mine! But yes, mounting the iOSD inside looks like a good shout, just saw that on the UK FPV thread on RCGroups.

Unlikely to have killed multiple motors. Do they feel the same as a good one when turning by hand? I had a bit of a head scratching juddering problem a while ago with a DT750. found out after much faff that it was because the screws that secure the motor to the mount had worked their way out enough for the motor to move a bit vertically

Hi Rilot, another quick Q... How do you take an internal connection from the CAN bus? have you just fed the cable out and removed it from the leg, fitting it inside or have you made your own cable?

Scratching my head figuring out how I can do all this in a tidy manner! :p

Did you also have to fit a different Rx module to your P2 to be able to use that Tx? I'm really sold on the idea of a video switcher. I'm about to get a Zenmuse and GoPro. Do I need a CAN-Bus hub if I want to run an iOSD mini and the Zenmuse together?

Got my APM set-up today at last went a bit mad with my soldering skills and bridged a far few connections, but all fixed now. Took it for a quick test flight in the garden but without the GPS as ive got nowhere on the quad to mount it, but anyway I LOVE IT so smooth no yawing issue that i had with the KK2.1 board so so easy to fly. Just got to tidy up the wires and sort the GPS out. Tried the autotune out, didnt know much about it and it nearly fit the fence, but all OK. Went to change the connector on my battery and quad to the XT90 and soldered the one, went to solder the second and my soldering iron has gone caput. getting a replacement tomorrow but no more flying for now.

Where can I get a protective box for my GPS unit or box and stand together

Just like to say a big thanks to Col_M for the suggestion and advise given !!

I finally got some video with my X4. I bought A Turnigy Key-Chain camera around Christmas time and finally got it set up and ready to go.

The video quality is rather poor but the whole camera setup cost around £12 so I'm not too concerned.

The flight time on the X4 was around 4 minuets, it lifts off at around 70% throttle on a full battery.

Those looking for a case for their Phantoms/Visions should check this out.

It seems big enough inside and have some room for the accessories and is cheap.

That's the same one that several of us have, all be it from a different vendor.
Phantom and Phantom 2 / Vision fit's nicely.

Ill be ordering one this week. Ive looked everywhere and the ones Ive seen have been well over £100/200.

Btw I hope some of you have been out flying in this sun. Hardly a breeze in the air! Perfect conditions :)

*edit* Not the best of processing/editing, but one from earlier.

Took my quad for a fly this afternoon in the garden testing the new APM out, just completed the auto-tune, so landed, rearmed and tried the different flight modes. Just couldnt get the simple mode to work

Isn't the simple mode GPS based? Did you get the GPS installed?

Yes GPS installed got a lock blue light on, on the floor infront of me nose pointing out, hovering, put it in to loiter mode with simple when i push forward it went left and vise-versa
