I'm really enjoying my new Zenmuse H32D on the phantom!


I'm looking into fpv now, ideally integrated with my H3-2D. Would I have to buy a complete zen such as the fatshark predator v2, which has a camera which I don't need, as I want to steam from the gimbal?
 
I'm in the market for an APM flight controller now

Where is best to buy from? I've seen some on an auction site for around £60 which I assume are fake or copy boards but do they actually work?

I've also seen them for about £180 which seems to be made by 3DR?
 
Trying to set up the APM and I'm getting an error " PreArm: INS not healthy" which I think is the accel and gyro.

In the APM planner the display is showing it rolling when it's sat on the desk, slowly at first then getting quicker. I can compensate for it by turning the board, so I guess it must be reading the sensors.

Tried re calibrating everything, still the same. Anybody any ideas?
 
I went and ordered an FPV250, motors and ESCs from HK. I got an email from Interlink that I have SOMETHING arriving tomorrow (picked up from Heathrow). What it is IDK yes, I have a problem with buying stuff :p

Are you running the latest firmware and version of mission planner?

Even if you have, try reinstalling the latest firmware and see if that fixes it.
 
want something small you can fly indoors or in the car which is also silly cheap :D

Found the problem, it's caused by a 3.3 volt regulator that's blown and letting 5 volts to the gyro. Got a new reg on order so hopefully that will sort it. Just have to solder it on, which could get interesting.

Ah, that's a common problem, thankfully it's a cheap fix. Glad you worked out what it was though :)

I am lost for words. It was my HK order, all the way from China. Ordered at around 2am on Friday night, sat on my desk Tuesday morning. it wasn't even the expensive shipping option :D
 
great thread and some good vids/advice

hopefully will be set up with a phantom 2/gimbal soon (I have everything bar the phantom kit already)

is anyone using a lens cover on a gopro? (hero3+) as you can't use the waterproof cover that is supplied

Looks like I have the same problem after updating mine last night. I'm assuming this would affect flight as well?

I have actually flown mine yet just been putting it together. I've ordered myself some regs, I hope it is an easy job to solder it together

If it happened to me and it was bought from China I'd do the fix myself. A few pence for a regulator and a little soldering is less hassle than posting it back to China and dealing with getting postage refunded.

Even if you get a replacement there's a chance the new one you get will have the same problem too.

With my design I didn't drill the cheap carbon fibre. Extruded carbon fibre has all the fibres running in one direction. It's much cheaper than 'proper' woven stuff but if you start a split lengthways it just fails.

If you drill holes either side of the carbon you can clamp it between two bolts. I used Nylon M3 nuts and bolts to save weight on my (650 gram) mini quad.

I also used motor mounts that clamp onto the carbon fibre, again avoiding drilling through it.

If you must drill it you can put plywood plugs into the hollow centre and use expanding gorilla glue (polyeurathene based) to get a good tight fit. This will add compressive strength and stop the carbon fibre squashing into an oval under pressure.

Used properly on a mini quad the 10mm carbon square tube is very strong and light but I'd feel a little worried using it on anything much more than about 1.2kg in weight.

Here's a crash test just to prove it;


No damage except to my pride :-)
 
Looks like it's the APM in the CD spindle case.

Nice one howler, looks a tidy build. Are you using 4mm HXT bullet connectors for the ESCs?
