That's why I initially said the Manfacturers/Distributers should take the initiative and supply a copy of the laws per country but then if anything changes and the information is therefore wrong liability will then fall on them not the user. All the hobby will get is bad press unless the CAA steps up and does something to advertise the Laws that they have put in place.

Bah, they can make it illegal. Not like I have permission to fly any of the places I do anyway... And what copper is going to go out of their way to collar an FPVer, unless they are flying in a daft place to begin with?

This, if you're out the way a copper isn't going to care if you're out playing with your toy in the woods so long as you're being fairly safe with it.

Obviously flying recklessly in public areas is a completely different matter.

At the end of the day, its no different to someone strapping an fpv kit to a nitro remote control car and blasting down the motorway at 50-60mph in and out of traffic, it's just because drones are flying that the public view it as some some big scary problem.

Edit: on a side note, i've ditched the talon v2 frame. While it looks quite smart, it was a pain in the arse to fix and align the motor mounts in the event of a crash, the centre of it had no space to mount anything and it was awkward to dismantle if you needed to get inside it. So now i've gone with a flamewheel knockoff so i can get into it again without much hassle in the event of a whoopsie.

That's excellent, thanks. I'm actually hoping to start off my own soon enough. The only problem is I have no mates (saddo :p) so I'd like to join a club or community or something. Hell, I'd even arrange an OcUK meet at Crystal Palace and a drink at a local or at mine afterwards if there are any takers.

In relation to the French racing video posted above, this looks like it was filmed by one of the participants at the event. I NEED fpv in my life!

Either they give us a safe place to play and all the associated fleecing licences or they face loads of illegal stuff going on.

It's going to be a tough one. We'll need some way to identify these things to their users, as a quad can fly for miles and if the pilot is FPV, there's virtually no chance of finding him.
 
Such a bad article. Where was 80ft established? Drones occupy the same airspace supposedly... no they shouldn't. For someone who didn't know what it was, the transcript seemed to jump suddenly from helicopter type thing to "exactly that".

But the masses will believe it and listen to all the bad rep, guess we'll just have to enjoy it while it lasts.
 
The trouble with multi-rotors, is they're so easy to fly it's just ridiculous. GPS position hold, altitude hold, IOC. You don't even have to do anything except push the stick where you want it to go. You have all the time in the world between inputs so they don't even have to be second nature. Driving an RC car is harder.

This means average Joe can stroll into a shop, buy a phantom, charge it, go to the park and be flying the same day. No thought for the implications and dangers of flying in public, or the laws on model flight, and no insurance should the worst happen.

Compare that with other RC flight. You pretty much have to go to a club or do a LOT of reading on building and setup just to get the thing in the air. Then, if you do decide to go it alone, you WILL crash, and probably very quickly (a couple of seconds with a heli), making you think twice about sticking with it, and if you do decide it is for you, you'll do even more reading and maybe seek out some like minded people for advice.
 
Major rebuild job today. Replaced the 250 pro cabon + fiberglass mix frame with a pure CF frame, 60g lighter.

Took the opportunity to rewire a new pdb underneath the frame into the ESC bay and flipped the naze32 90 degrees so that the receiver connector+wires are not sticking outside anymore. Also removed 4x 1W LEDs which were pretty but pointless in FPV.

To finish off setup 3 different profiles on the naze with increasing rates to try some flips. Also locktite'd every nut+bolt :)

Result = 560g AIW with 1500mha battery and FPV gear, quite nice with the 1806 2400kv motors.

Really pleased with the ESC that fit the PDB + escs fine. Really paranoid with shorts on this CF frame, was interesting to test the frame with a multimeter+continuity test. Basically the sides of the frame are highly conductive. The top and bottom of the plates seem to be insulated though.

I added the m3 screw to the mobius dampeners on, as from experience these go flying off when crashing. Hope they will still work otherwise some fishing line will be option 2.

Total weight 426g without battery; 550g with 1500mAh battery.

I've flown both now.

KK - onboard display, doesn't need a PC to configure. Good performer, good loud audible low power beeper.

Acro Naze32 - very easy to setup with baseflight software, great performance on default out of the box settings, very locked in feel. Bluetooth adapter for on the go PID adjustments (via phone app) available.

Horizon mode is excellent for acro, as it combines self-level in the middle control ranges, but goes into acro mode on the extreme control ranges (for flips) so recovery is excellent as you flip using the limits on the controls, then recover into self-level by moving back into the center ranges. Voltage beeper isn't very loud (I use a separate monitor off the balance leads).

3 setup profiles selectable via controls.
