Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Had a delivery today, the Thorax frame turned up :)

After what seemed hours putting it together, I found out the motors and KK board from my 250 build wont fit. I should be able to make the holes bigger for the motors but will need a new controller. This hobby isnt cheap :(

Here's the Thorax next to the 250 for size comparison.

Looking at the website for the frame, it says my motors are compatible. Either Im doing something wrong or they are lying

When you say they won't fit, in what way? Holes don't line up our screw holes too small?

With the kk you could use sticky pads to hold it down. I had to with my hexa as the holes didn't line up for the naze. Actually works better as less vibrations.

Sometimes only two of the motor holes line up. Sometimes there is a slightly larger hole at the end of slot. Matron.

The screw holes don't line up. There's lots of them too, might just be me. I'll try again tomorrow.

The kk board is over a centimeter too big, I'll invest in a mini as it's only £15 from HK.

*edit* The 'X' plate that comes with the motor lines up with 2 of the holes so it must be me :(

Just have to open up the holes a bit and they should go on.

I really should fix my quad. Its in a sorry state after my flips and rolls fail. Maybe Ill nip out and grab a soldering iron later and fix it up.

Dremeled the holes, and the motors now fix on, yayyy :)

Only trouble is my hex driver broke so I cant continue.

And before anyone says, I know the props are the same, just seeing what it looks like :)

Having a bit of trouble getting my wireless video to be stable with a range of more than 10-15m anybody got any tips? I've got a boscam ts351 and rc805 receiver with cloverleaf antennas. Tried every channel but get static and break up after 10m and signal goes to black screen after 15-20m. Same for both the 7 inch screen and hdtv in the lounge, indoor and outdoor and with the video tx running off a separate battery. I'm out of ideas :(

Sounds very much like a bad antenna/connector. Have you tried the stock whip antenna?Failing that, have you tried walking the rx + screen away from the tx? (To eliminate esc/camera noise as a cause)

Hope that makes sense.

Cyclone, get an acro naze32 ;) I can't help thinking that a KK is going to be a disappointment on that. Personal bias, I concede

This one?

I cba with all the soldering :)

All the motors are attached to the Thorax now, just need a flight controller and I should have all bits to finish the build.

Thanks for the links guys but they work out dearer than HobbyKing. Only problem ordering from them is it will take a week or 2 (or 3) to be delivered.

Yep, had the stock ones to begin with, but thought the poor range might be due to the plain antennas so i bought some new cloverleaf ones in an attempt to improve it. Made no difference though.

It's not the esc's as i've been testing with only the video circuit powered independently, the esc's haven't been powered up while testing.

All I can think of is a broken connection inside either the tx or rx module. You usually can't see the positive centre pin connection too well unless you desolder/remove the heat spreader on the tx or uncase the rx. Might be worth a look, I had to do similar surgery on my tx after a nasty bottom first crash. All it took was a dab of solder to fill a crack/gap in the positive pin

E: not wanting to sound patronising but you have double checked that the antenna are RP-SMA?

I'll open it up and take a look :(

Ok I can't figure this one out.

I have motors with self tightening screws but I don't know which way they should go!

If the motor turns clockwise, should the screw to hold the propellers on tighten counter clockwise or clockwise. :o

Having a blonde moment.
