Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

I been itching for ages now and did have the FC40 but had to take it back as a was faulty.

Been looking at the DJI Flamewheel F550.

I have Spektrum DX6i as I fly aircraft already.

Where is the best place too start? Really like the F550

If you buy the F550 ARTF kit and the F450 Frame kit, you can build both depending on what you want to do at the time. Only an additional £25 for a lot of extra flexibility.

Depends what you're after. The general consensus is that the F450 is more fun to fly and also better for FPV, while the F550 is a more stable platform more suited to AP.

I have the F550 and can safely say it's a lot of fun and was very straightforward to put together although I have now added some third party landing skids for added clearance when using a gimbal!

It's amazingly stable in flight even when the wind is whipping along - holds its own in GPS Atti mode :)

Could you tell me more please? What version did you get?

The one I listed for £250 is really tempting.

I got mine from a different website to the one you listed (RC Geeks) and with a few others things so the whole lot came to just over a grand but the main kit with the F550 in it was £615 including the DJI Naza V2 flight controller and an H3-3D Gimbal for aerial filming (does an amazing job!).

I also got a Futaba T8J tx and a nice Ansmann charger for my ever growing Li-Po collection :D

I now have the following Turnigy Nano-Techs:
- 1 x 5000mAh 3S (was my starting battery)
- 4 x 8400mAh 3S (main flight batteries now)

Am hoping to add in an fpv setup soon although don't really know what I'd want - the DJI Lightbridge would be awesome but it's the same cost as everything I've already bought again >.<

My Naze 32 turned up today. I got it mounted to the Thorax, just need to sort out the wiring. Next few days should see a test flight.

I fly with cheap as chips Turnigy 3S 5000mah * 2. (one mounted on Aeroxcraft and one on top).

Not as much punch as 4S but gives me around 17mins fly time though usually land before due to stress on my tiny brain :)

Here is rough list of parts for my 550

550 ARTF (pre E300)
Naza M v2
Taranis with X8R (16 channels total)
Chinese £45 Gimbal (works great for money)
iOSD Mini
Aeroxcraft landing gear
Predator v2 FPV with 250MW TX
Hobbyking video switch
Gopro 3 Black
Strobon Lights
Flytrex Core Logger
8 Turnigy 3S 5000mAH (all soldered with XT60s)
2 Hobbyking touchscreen chargers

I rekon that lot was about £1600 but prices probably dropped loads since purchase. It's scary how it adds up :(

Think this was last time I flew it...

The setup for £250 comes with

"DJI Naza Lite Flight Controller + DJI Naza Lite Gps Module and Led"

Is there any reason not too get this, any limiting uses upgrades? Tried too look online but not much info

The problem with the Naza Lite is you cannot connect the iOSD Mini to it... If you end up FPVing (which is a must really) the on screen display is almost indispensable. Shows you altitude / speed / heading / flight mode / rate of climb + descent / your home location in relation to position and most importantly voltage.

I turn off the Naza voltage limits (which are way too limiting) and just fly until I reach the voltage I want to land at on the iOSD.

Is it possible to split a balance lead from a battery? I.e. to connect both a Lipo Alarm and an FPV system to the balance lead of a single battery?

Yeah sure, the actual splitting is fine.

The thing you need to watch out for is discharging cells unevenly, e.g. using 3 cells of a 4S to get ~12V, you aren't putting that load over the fourth cell so it'll discharge slower than the other three. As long as you balance charge your batteries every charge and don't discharge too far you'll be good :)

I've got one and it's brilliant. Incredibly flexible, easy to fix and tweak. I had one or two issues when I upgraded the firmware, but that's because I'm an idiot, not a problem with the tx. Not plug and play as mine came with no models set up, so you'll need to do that.

Have been mailing Rilot most of tonight as the store. The store has confirmed what comes with it and I've just this second placed the order. £191 delivered next day. I'll sell my DX6i to recope costs.

You guys didn't joke about costs!! I've not bought the drone yet

GoPro Hero 3 Black £117.99

FrSky TARANIS 2.4GHz Transmitter Combo £190.78

Total £308.77

The Fatshark FPV transmitters can be connected to 2s, 3s or 4s, so there shouldn't be an issue there.

All the splitter cables are the other way, designed to connect multiple batteries to a single balance port, usually for charging multiple batteries off a single charger. I need one the other way, that takes a single balance lead from a battery and turns into 2.
