Multirotor, multicopter and quadcopter discussion - The Drone thread

Dunno if you can read that, but being as though somebody posted up their cost so far, I though I'd do a little calculation.

I wish I hadn't now.

Yes, your Operations Manual, which is the document you submit to the CAA as part of the permissions process, has to list any and all SUAs you'll operate. - INFO-

Many thanks for this Russ, not having seen an S1000 before when you say the serial number is that from the frame kit of an S1000? As obviously other components like the flight controller / gimbal / OSD will have serial numbers too!

I wonder if there's anywhere in london where you can actually go and see an S1000 in person as it does seriously interest me if we were to want to do serious flight for filming purposes.

Depending on how the Inspire 1 goes it would be interesting to see how much Rilot would part with his S800 Evo for - kind of wish I'd just gone for one instead of the F550 sometimes!

Yeah it's the chassis serial. Same as a plane or a car, they have one but there's numerous systems inside which have their own too.

Updates to the system have to be logged in the maintenance log - so if we replaced the flight controller that would go in - and any major modifications would require a resubmit the CAA and potentially a new flight exam. That's all a bit of a grey area as you can imagine, but whoever you do your course with (ours was EuroUSC) are really helpful on that front. On that note, they've been great, they put us in touch with their Italian office when we were asked to film there and we had a fair bit of correspondence and help with local laws, all of which was free.

I've not even going to begin to add it all up. Its going to be far in excess of £10k I've spent on MRs over the last 2 years.

It can be classed as photography equipment so don't see why not.

Russ I don't suppose you can help me out with a rough guide of what I should be looking at getting? I can't afford or justify something like an S1000 but would like something capable and able to provide quality results.

I'm prepared to pay around £2000 to get the aircraft, controller and camera equipment, Pretty much the best I can get to get my ticket on so I'm not having to retake the test again.

I understand 100% if you choose not to but thought you would be the best person to ask as you have been there done that kind of thing ;)

Build Your Own Drone just called me to say that they have my Inspire waiting for me. Sweet! I shall go and get it on Saturday. I'd go tomorrow but I have to go to the smoke for a meeting. Poo :(

Unfortunately I'm the worst person to ask :p. We pretty much only looked at and bought the S1000. I don't even really know how much other RTF RPASs are. Sorry!

You'll want something that can carry something much more than a GoPro though, that's for sure. Lots fly a Lumix GH4 which is lighter than the 5D we carry.

There's more knowledgeable people here though, Rilot for one.

I would grab an S100 instantly if I could afford to and thats the only one people seem to have so looking around isn't helping much either but thanks :D

I'd be looking for something to carry a DSLR, Not quite sure it would be as much as that lumix though! Possibly a camcorder unless the new camera's are as good?

Hey Rilot how you doing and what do you know :p

No, that's fair, they ain't cheap. I wouldn't look at camcorders because you instantly remove the potential for aerial photography then too. And yes, modern DSLRs are pretty good on the film side - that's another reason we got the S1000 because we shoot all our 'ground' video work on a 5D anyway.

For those larger hexacopters (S800/900) and octocopters (S1000) you'd be looking at the Wookong or A2 controller at the least - the Naza M V2 can't deal with 8 props and I'd want something more reliable for carrying thousands of pounds of gear than a Naza on an S800/900 - hence I believe Rilot runs an A2 on his S800 Evo :)

I was looking at the A2 just last night, Sounds more suitable. I have never really wanted a Naza and was looking at an Eagle Tree Vector for my tricopter a while back.

Edit, Does this seem too cheap? http://www.eyeflying.com/latest-qua...troller.html?gclid=CKHc_fGFhcMCFdQZtAod_TAAwg

Edit 2, The Inspire 1, How would that compare? I think that would be the best way for me now I have looked at the video further up the page.
