so I have finally given up on the qav250, managed to snap another bottom plate on a goalpost. I picked up a emax knighthawk frame form a local supplier while I wait for a zmr and thug arms to arrive from tentech which I may add is taking an age to arrive.
I can appreciate the quality of the QAV, the emax is horrible, the zmr apparently is cut by tentech or thug themselves out of pure carbon so should be nicer and I have 4 extra thug arms coming which I am going to double up so I have 6mm arms. All I need to do is try and get one of the overcraft or nucleus pdb's for it but everywhere is out of stock
.
While the qav is a quality frame the carbon just doesn't seem to hold its structure enough, delamination and flex works it's way in and the fact you can not replace the arms just makes it not a good choice. I wouldn't care but I just got some emax 1900kv to spin 6x45 props and the thing was flying lovely.
Given I have enough to build 2 full quads now I will be replacing the emax frame as soon as I can and think I am going to be ordering a blackout, the cost of a ZMR frame, better arms and a pdb just gets so close to the cost of a blackout you might as well buy a blackout. Also the carbon on the blackout frame is supposed to be of the highest quality as opposed to rumors that lately the carbon on th QAV has slowly gotten less and less.
Sad few days. on the bright side, it is raining so I am not missing much I suppose!
Good news though, I bench tested the 1900kv on 4s with 6x45 props and got 900+g of thrust. they have bundles of torque and are more efficient than the 2300kv producing more thrust
