MX-5 Project log thread

Cool, looks like you've got the original outlet design, go hunt down the updated flat top one for some more power.

What condition was the nose pulley bearing in?

Will the flat top one actually make any difference at all? :D

Not sure on the pulley actually, he did say it was all in vgc though. It's all very clean, cleaner than the rest of the engine

Oh and that's where the bottle's always been. Just not tilted at 45deg :D

Many moons ago people stated a good efficiency increase, when you up the boost it should make even more of a difference, its certaintly worth keeping your eyes open for one since they don't make them anymore iirc.

You should see some interesting gains when you fit proper engine management.

Interesting. I'll spend some time getting used to the new found power and see if I desire any related upgrades in the future. I get the feeling that the law of diminishing returns sets in once you've made the initial "jump" though!

Remind me who you are with again, as I will have to find a new insurance company for when I do my supercharger :o
I'm with HIC who are a broker and have me covered with Highway. Got the mods covered, DOC etc for a reasonable price :)

You need to do more than that, the M45 can't really flow enough air for big power.

Car doesn't need massive power anyways.

Indeed :)

Still with some 2nd hand injectors, intercooler and managment he should be able to get to around 200bhp, no? (depending on tune.)

The 1.6 and M45 combo regardless of cams / injectors or map isn't good for anymore than 190iirc, the rotors can't flow enough air and if you spin the charger too fast it becomes counter productive, Rockdoc on Nutz spent lots of time and money tuning his 1.6 M45 and got 195bhp out of it I think.

You really need an M62 to get past 180 without blowing too much hot air.

Ah got the 200 figure in my head as a few have come up on nutz recently and those figures have been banded around (obviously 1.8 :o)

Real men use turbos...

On a more serious note, I really fancy selling the bike and doing another one of these knowing what I do now. I'd start with a mk2 this time and go Tubular manifold, GT28RS, MS, Absurdflow DP, 3" and really do it properly. Possibly look at building the spare engine in my garage. 9 inch wide wheels and fat rubber. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
