MX-5 Project log thread

Yeah, bring on pay day! Got lots planned for mine too.

New mohair hood with glass window (I put my finger through the PVC window already :'( Roof is original and 15 years old, so past its best). New shift boots and turret oil, might throw in a short shift kit if there is one. Already got the stubby ariel on that you have. Then I want all the clutch and brake fluid doing with the lines replaced with HEL braided ones and my tamed mechanic is going to do the belts in cam belt. I'm gonna do the oils myself as it's pretty simple.

Then I need alignment. Full lock to the right makes awful noises and makes the front wheels drag about which is way wrong. I fear I might need to do the bushes too, but £800 is not going to go that far with all the above!

Oh payday is before then. But the 21st is henceforth known as forced induction day ;) :D

I've got some shift boots and turret/gearbox/diff oil ready to change too, as well as engine oil! Hope it's dry at the weekend..

Still enjoying hooning about in it?

What FI setup are you going for?

Hooning around is going great, I'll be happier when I've got all the alingment, servicing and roof bits done. Quickly running out of £££ though. What do you expect the FI will cost (if im not being too cheeky asking)?

It's a second hand JRSC kit from a reputable guy on the forums, around £1500 inc fitting. A good grand less than it is new, without fitting and timing control

Who put that there

;)

It's a lot faster! :D

The nature of the s/c vs a turbo though is that it's not a neck-snapping power delivery as such as a big wave of torque, so you surprise yourself looking at the speedo! It feels a great deal faster though :) And of course there's a lovely whine :D

I'm trying to be as smooth as possible though so as not to explode my clutch and/or diff, will see about some uprating next year sometime.

Fitting took a day basically (yesterday), and went well with no real dramas. Except for my driver's side electric window cable snapping  but that's not the supercharger's fault ;) it's held up with duck tape atm

Plant your foot on the motorway in 5th and it picks up speed so well, makes overtaking rather enjoyable :D And again check the speedo.. Whoops 1.1 leptons, better back off ;)

How is it managed? Megasquirt, emanage?

My MX5 is in for its full service and whatnot today. Not too happy with it yet, the geo is way out and makes driving it somewhat evenful. Still, drive it daily and love it, just need to feel more planted up front!

How is it managed? Megasquirt, emanage?

AFPR (Adjustable fuel pressure regulator) for the extra juice and an MSD timing box to automatically adjust the timing with boost. Works well. Will see how much economy I lose but it didn't use much more than normal driving back from Brum.

Yeah, geo setup makes a world of difference. Mine is so sharp since I had it all sorted :)

Stupid lightweight car + summer tyres = fail on snow, though. Got stuck getting up my mate's road  Wrong weather really to be going half way up the country to have work done but meh, I'm dedicated :D

Where did you get it done out of interest?

A guy up in Solihull (Onlymx5ives on PH, MX5 forums etc if anyone knows of him) who deals in MX5s and anything associated. He did a fantastic job and really knows his stuff.

Ghetto waterbottle location is ghetto!

Does the outlet rub on the bonnet?
Not sure actually. Don't think so! There's no red paint on it anyway ;)

That's where my water bottle is too. If you have ABS it's put somewhere else IIRC. A few people have moved them to near the rad, or remove the carbon cannister and put it there.

Looks like it clears there, nothing looks higher than the oil cap to me. I've driven my car every day in this snow and its quite deep here! Got stuck in a car park twice mind you. Leads me to beleive I might not have an LSD becasue only one wheel was spinning up at one point :(
