MX5 Owners in here....bring your curling tongs

Wee MX5 test day at Kames motorsport complex. Little twisty sprint circuit that saw 15 mx5s out to play. Below is a video of me and my brother in laws first outings. :p

Looks like a lot of fun. I'm not far from Muirkirk.
I was speaking to a chap at the Tartan Tarmac meet at Eurocentral on Sunday who was telling me about eh sprint championships and Eunos Ecosse. Didn't catch his name though.

Hi,

So i'm contemplating increasing my budget to around 4k for a mk2. Local mazda dealer near me has told me they'll be getting a blue, 2004 1.6 with 64k service history etc for around 4k. Seems a little on the high side as you'd expect from a main dealer.

Looking around i've found a 2006 1.8 (newer shape, included removable hardtop) with full service history but on 100k miles from some appointment only dealer. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201502191085963/sort/locasc/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/usedcars/make/mazda/postcode/ub78dl/price-from/2500/price-to/4000/radius/1500/page/1/model/mx-5/channel/cars?logcode=p

Or a 1.8 2007 facelift from a dealer with some sort of presence full mazda service, spare key etv history, facelifte etc with 116k http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201503161784435/sort/locasc/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/usedcars/make/mazda/postcode/ub78dl/price-from/2500/price-to/4000/radius/1500/page/1/model/mx-5/channel/cars?logcode=p

What do you guys think? I could probably get a mechanic friend of mine to give the first 2006 car the once over, the 2nd one might be abit far away from him (hes pretty busy)

Anyone know how much work is involved in changing the Power steering pipes on an MX5 Mk2.5? Mines had an advisory on the MOT for corroded pipework.

Trying to work out if it's something to try and tackle myself!

This guy only seems to sell decent ones. Or if they are rusty, he'll say so and price them accordingly.

I wouldn't say a great deal access is great and the power steering pump is a doddle to remove aswell

Nice one.

I'll have a root online for guides as i have **** all idea what i'm doing but always prefer having a bash myself first.

Although that usually just ends up giving a garage twice as much to fix!

Oil cooler water inlet pipe replaced today.

Once again its leak free.

What a ball ache of a job though access is severely limited both ends of the pipe. Ended up cutting the old pipe and spent the best part of an hour trying to get the hose clamps back on

Last weekend I took my MK1 for a run to Nuneaten and back (120m round trip).
Also been to work and back 4 times this week (67 miles per day).

****ing love it.
I still have the hard top on though for now...

What makes this car special is that whilst my Focus is faster, does not rattle, safer, twice as good on fuel etc., driving the mx5 on and off makes it all the more special.
For example in the summer I may not use the MX5 for a few weeks, but when I do it feels exciting all over again!

Same goes for the hard top. It is a better car with it on, but when I take it off in the summer I rediscover convertible driving. I probably have the hard top on 9 months of the year (garaged for 5 of those 9).
(I am a general soft top hater I confess, we don't live in Spain).

My biggest surprise is just how much the car doesn't break at 23 years old.

Looking to buy another MX5.. Dont wanna spend much as I just want it for fun so something around the £1k mark, been looking at MK2 MX5 anything to look out for apart from rust!

At 1k for mk2 I'd be worried about rust, especially on the chassis legs, and as standard the arches.
