my clio engine

Agreed its an outrageous beast, heck it gets away with it just fine when you lift the bonnet and see an engine like that underneath!

I think it looks really cool. It clearly wasn't intended to be "subtly sporty" or anything like that, it was intended to look outrageous which it pulls off really well :).

So does this:

Doesn't mean it's good though...

power output does seem a tad high. I know Craig adam's, that had a white clio that was running T/B. fully modded head, with standard bottom end, was making 216 bhp N/A. from a megane F7R-710 engine. He then sold it on to martin, so I'll take it you seen that. Most i've seen proven on turbo is 280ish bhp. not saying your will make that, you find out once it run in. also what gearbox are you using. a JC5 ?. you just be popping the diff-circlip. if your planning on using that with a JB3 box, and driving it hard.

hi mate. yes i,m running a fully new but rebuilt JB5 with lsd built by bernie at cps with some polished and shot peened gears and a few of his choice mods.
also thats a standard bottom end mine should be good for 8000rpm. plus its an estimate. the proof as always is in the pudding. will find out as you said once run in and re mapped by henk at fast chip.

drop a clio/r19/megane derv crank in a 1.8 and you have a 2l aswell :)

Not quite. The bore is 0.7mm bigger as well on the F7Rs to take it out to 1998cc. The extra stroke on the crank would mean you'd need pistons with a different pin height so they wouldnt poke out the top of the block. That means 2.0 pistons, and a rebore of that 0.7mm to make them fit. Also, the blocks are subtly different, if you try to put a derv/2.0 crank in the 1.8 block, the rod big ends foul inside of the crankcase. If you were brave you *might* be able to grind enough material away to clear, but personally I wouldn't drive it. A lot of work and bodging to make 2.0 when you could just buy one. That's why nobody does it.

JB5? It's either a JB3 (from a 1.8 16V) or a JC5 (from a 2.0 16v). The JC5 will still pop the circlip if you put too much through it, it will just take more than the JB3.

Incidentally, how much did it cost you to get the box rebuilt (excluding the LSD)?

Im sure he means JC5.

Hows he going to pop the circlip? I was aware JC5's have no circlip and has a bolt setup in place of the inferior circlip.

Everyone seems to be missing the point here. Yeh it may not be to everyones taste but the amount of time and effort gone into it is what should really be judged.

Nobody is arguing with that, it has clearly had a lot of time and money spent on it, and the engine is fantastic.

But that doesn't change the fact that it looks about as attractive as a freshly laid turd :)

yes sorry a JC5 that no longer has circlips as the LSD removes them. i think a rebuild is about 190 quid plus parts from bernie. he does everything from clios to skylines.

looks like a french, green pulsar :s

and the t28 is nowhere near big enough to get too far over 300hp, and even if it does its going to shred its fronts.

Do you have any photos of the diff retention that doesn't use the circlip?

Also you mention 'cps' as the gearbox refurbisher, who exactly are they?

Is there any reason why you have such attention to detail with your engine but don't seem bothered that the bodykit doesn't fit the car properly?
