My MR2 Turbo MPG Record!

It is only boring because it feels safe.

If I drive at 70mph on the motorway I get so bored I don't concentrate

I agree, i find it very hard to sit and do 70, i allways say im going to so i can save a bit of fuel but it never happens :p

Bah... I do 55 on the motorway every morning on the way to work.

Of course it doesn't help that there's ALWAYS a traffic queue... :D

Try doing 55mph for 6 hours like I did then.

Well done mate. However I accept the challenge! :D

I've just finished rebuilding the engine on my mr2 turbo with overbore, td06 turbo and apexi powerfc. I've got to do a run in of 1000miles sensible miles so I'll record my progress :D

Heh yer, I said that to myself going to Leeds the other week. But being me I set off late. Plus the mentalists on the m62 do a minimum of 90mph. Honestly I was in the inside lane sat at about 105mph, being overtaken constantly :p

So obviously I had to squeeze it a bit further :o

I wouldn't want to sit in the outside lane at 105mph in a little 306 towncar :p

Firstly, inside lane ;)

Secondly you'd be suprised :p Feels fine, do it regulary (yes it's not big or clever). Plus I've had it max'd on my own private runway (*ahem*m6*ahem*) so it's been worse :o

Need my rear tyres balancing though I think :p

Not me by any chance? :p

We (work) have an office in Leeds.

The first time I went there I was struggling to maintain 70-80mph in the 214. It's a good run, but not when your poor car struggles to make it up hills. :(

Second time was in the 220, and woah, what a difference. Made the journey so much more fun. Only took me half an hour. However, I didn't find anyone doing 105mph  I must have done *cough* wrong side of the speedo *cough* twice and was the only one in the outside lane.

Dont sit at one speed on a new engine, you need to vary the loads and speeds, pressure in the chamber will force the rings out helping them bed in. The first 70miles are crucial. Sitting at a constant speed will just glaze the bores before the rings can 'bite' in

To be honest you can drive normally, just don't rev it high as this will caused localised overheating of the rings.

Meh, it was a strange evening, normally when I go to Leeds it's a Friday evening so traffic is mental. This was a bank holiday weekend so I went on the Saturday evening and it was dead, which was sweet :p

By the same token, the petrol you save by travelling at 70 instead of 80 in nothing and not really worth it.

actually i'm one of those people that like's to maintain a set speed on motorways and used to stick to 80mph as much as possible and now at 70mph. It's not an exact science of course, but i do drive the same route of roughly half town and half motorway every week and on average, get about 7mpg more driving at a steady 70mph. In my 10gallon tank, that's an extra 70miles each tank.

edit: is there anyone as sad as me, that resets the clock each time they fill up and work out their mpg each time? :p

I've just got my 306xsi last week and was wondering how much it’s gonna cost to run monthly. On the motorways don’t seem to bad, but driving around town isn’t looking to good :o. And then again the first week of driving it I don’t think I ever stayed under the speed limit :D
