My MR2 Turbo MPG Record!

They are just as inaccurate,

My trip computer is accurate to within +/- 0.5mpg. I've checked it several times.

which works from the speedo reading giving from the electronic speed sensor that goes into the ecu to gauge distance, we all know how accurate speedos are!

Except it doesn't, proof of which can be found if you reset the average speed recorder whilst travelling at an indicated 70mph - it doesn't show 70mph, it shows about 65, which is on-par with what my GPS reckons.

steady on there chap, not like I drive it, its currently in pieces in the garage back home.

So if you don't drive it exactly why say how much fuel economy it gets, IIRC you've never driven it? :p

Yea but why would you want to sit at 55mph - I got the above figure with the cruise set to 75.

Doh!!

Thought you meant at a steady 55, but it was the OP.

Not sure what I get at 70 ish, hi 40's I think, I know at 90 I get about 42-43 ish.

Sadly its about 35-36 at mo, driving in 30 limits in town constantly :(

Fog

I hate town driving :(

Only get about 230miles from 50litres.

Went to Leeds and back the other week and got 300miles out of 50litres (although I did do a constant 100mph over the m62 :p God I love that motorway, everyone are nutters!)

Got a dodgy lambda also which I'm gonna replace and see what happens.

P.S - And I could NEVER drive at 55mph on a motorway! Under 85mph and I'm bored senceless :p

I once, as a test, cruised at 55/60 on the motorways (when it was quiet, anyway).

It was actually really nice to go slow for a change, just sat there with the music on, the big 'ol four pounding away and the whole car thrumming gently. Very relaxing :)

It is good to be able to cruise along and not have to worry about cams and sit back and watch everyone else driving crazy.

nope that prooves your clocks are inacurate not the vehicle speed sensor in your gearbox.

Indeed it is nice to have the freedom of travelling at a relaxed speed but unfortunately i generally have to be somewhere at a specific time and starting earlier = less sleep, which i am not willing to sacrifice :D

Its always good when you get loads to a tank. :D I usually get 250... once I was on for 400 for a tank, but I chickened out... that was 55mph on a motorway for a long time. (Was following a caravan, heh)

I couldn't do that much though, 55 apposed to like 80 is quite a lot of time. (although I tend to do just under 100 these day). I much prefer a 3hr trip to a 5hr one.

(60l tank with said 8l reserve)

Dont whatever me :p ;)

Seriously. Is it just Toyota that have inaccurate ones then?
No, they're all fairly inaccurate, but alright for an approximation. At least they're fairly consistent.

Got 54mpg into uni - 20miles at rush hour through city centre sa well in my mothers car.

My car only gets 30mpg for the same journey (i drive it a little harder though ;) )

I have covered 600miles in my Mondeo, that's two full tanks.

I think that's a little on the rich side. I may have a small hole in the exhaust, or maybe even a leak at the join, that could be causing it. I drive it carefully.

worst ive got in the Puma so far is 165 miles, best is 230.. 9 gallon tank,

Works out at roughly 18.3 to 25.5 mpg... I think !?

For information

When the orange fuel light comes on you can get from York to Newcastle as long as you do 56mph with all the electrics turned off.

(guess who was driving home at 1am with no petrol stations open!)
