My new car

It's done now - just make sure you do a lot of reading up about the swirl flap issue on these engines. If it fails, the bill could potentially be several thousand pounds. Either ensure you have a cast iron warranty or look into getting work done on the car to replace the flaps on the manifold as a precuationary measure.

Whatever you do not run this car without a warranty OR some preventative work to prevent this problem happening.

Nice one Steedie, as long as you're happy with it dude.

Some of us don't have time to go and test drive several cars before stting down and comparing different models, I hope for your sake you never have impulses again young man!!!

What you want to do is move back in with your parents and have all the time in the world to masterbate over BMW's and then make an informed decison so you don't look stupid on a computer forum.

Well by all means, I can still cancel, I've not got the keys, and I can get the deposit back

But I don't want to, I'm happy with it, it might not be the best for the price I paid, but it's a model I've been looking at for a while, ok I did with 3 series as well and didn't actually drive any or see any. But, I think I've made the right choice, if not, well it's a very expensive lesson learnt and I will know for next time

But in the mean time, can not one of you miserable sods not be at least a little bit happy for me! :p

Yeah and errr, check the fuel tank is connected properly as i've heard of them falling off and exploding :p

You were trying to scare him, right Fox?

I think you should at least shop around.

You've not been ripped off and its not a terrible car - it's far from the worst deal we've ever seen. It's just a shame you didn't do a bit of homework before spending 9 grand, thats all.

Enjoy the car and educate yourself about the swirl flap issue.

Just go an test drive some alternatives this weekend.

Focus/A3/Astra etc and i'm sure you'll feel reassured :)

Most people put more effort into buying a new computer game than he put into buying a car, surely you can see peoples point :p

If you are so busy with life that being able to spend a small amount of time doing some homework is something you cannot afford to do before spending 9 grand then I can only hope you are paid a fabulously huge amount of money for whatever it is you do :p

It looks like a nice car (just get better alloys ;))! And doesn't appear to be majorly overpriced. Just make sure you go in with your eyes open and you should be fine.

Just count yourself lucky you didn't drive past CarCraft and see the car...

...that would have been an expensive error.

I'll look into that Fox, is it really that common then? Cheers for the heads up

I've been looking since I got home Janesy, just to try and make myself feel better/worse about the price, and it really does seem I got a good deal, they seem to be anything from 9 upto 11k. A few 6/7's but then I'm wondering why they are so cheap

I felt so good about all this until I posted on here, I knew I shouldn't have done it! haha

By the way, it was the 118d that you guys said has shocking performance wasn't it? Or is that the 120d as well?:p

Yes its common but act now and it wont trouble you. I beleive its possible to remove the flaps completely now - you'll need to pay a garage to do this but its money well spent.

Spend some time this evening browsing the 1 and 3 series section (3 Series has the same engine) :)

Provided you sort it before it fails it wont trouble you.

Assuming this car is a 2005/54 120d Sport with 60k miles on it, £9k is not a ripoff. It's towards the top of its value but it's not exactly OTT especially if it's immaculate condition wise.

It's a 2005 with 50k miles on it

The condition is superb, not a single scratch or mark on it, I was pretty impressed

I would but to knock the bloke when he's made an impulse buy is wrong imo, let him make his own mistakes, you're to quick to **** on people sometimes, especially when he's obviously stoked because he's got a new car.

Wait for the "I wish I had never bought this piece of ****" thread and then lay into him.

I'm in Procurement, I have a team to run round doing the donkey work and finding savings :p

But people will hardly ever admit they've made a crap purchase!

And, everyone has 30 mins to do some research, the OP obviously did because he had time to post a "my new car" thread. That said, i'm not knocking him, i'm just saying that this time, he seems to have been lucky in that he's bought a fairly solid car for a not bad price. However, with the OP's attitude of "i just wanted a BMW" he could have been sold a ropey 116i for the same price and he seemingly wouldn't have cared.

A mate of mine has a 54 plate 116i, it's rubbish in every way other than the badge I guess. I take great pleasure in telling him it's the worst BMW £10k can buy you. There is not a chance I would have spent £9k on a 5 year old slow poverty spec 1 series, not a chance!

Oh believe me, if in a few months I hate it, and I regret it, I'll admit it

I just hope that isn't the case. As bad as this sounds, but because it's only my second car I've owned and about the 5th car I've ever driven since passing my test, I'm guessing it's going to be pretty hard for me to not be impressed compared to the Fiesta. That is definitely not a reason to justify the purchase, but at the same time, I'm just saying, I think I'll love it regardless

That's a nice car Fox, cheers for that! You git! ha I must admit though, I do prefer the interior of my car, but that certainly doesn't make me regret my purchase which is good!

The answer to this next question should tell you whether you've made a good buy or not.

You said you originally wanted a 3 Series. Well, this is the sort of 3 Series your budget would have got you:

If you can look at that and think 'I prefer my 120d' then bingo - good buy :)

You can almost pick up an E90 in that budget now. If you're going to spend £9k on a whim then you can spare the extra couple of K.
