My new car

Nice upgrade, I recently did the same although I went for something a little more powerful.

Went from a Focus 1.6 TDCI to a Focus ST-2. 1.6 diesel to 2.5 turbo petrol.

All I can say is WOW the difference is just night and day and driving anywhere feels effortless and more importantly insanely fun.

PS I've only been driving 13 months also.

I've impulse bought all my cars (except the Manta), but then they all cost about £300 (except the Manta) so it's not really that big a deal.

Out of 15 or so impulse buys only 2 of them blew up within hours so I'm sure you will be fine :D

Well by all means, I can still cancel, I've not got the keys, and I can get the deposit back

But I don't want to, I'm happy with it, it might not be the best for the price I paid, but it's a model I've been looking at for a while, ok I did with 3 series as well and didn't actually drive any or see any. But, I think I've made the right choice, if not, well it's a very expensive lesson learnt and I will know for next time

But in the mean time, can not one of you miserable sods not be at least a little bit happy for me! :p

I am sure you will be happy with it. It's a good step up from a Fiesta, will give good economy and reasonable performance.

I have had many cars on impulse buys, never been unhappy with any of them.

Just out of interest though guys, where would be the best place to look for better Alloys, as I must admit they are the only thing about the car that don't truly grab me

As long as your happy with it, enjoy the 120d matey.

The 520d is surprisingly nippy, after a Fiesta 1.3 I bet the 120d feels like a Porker!

One hell of a second car whichever way you look at it imo. :)

The 05 120d Sport I had is still one of my favourite cars I've owned and driven. I'd happily drive another.

My mate has one and he remapped it. Something like 250bhp now I think I recall him saying. Really like it, wouldnt mind one myself :)

EDIT: Would like to add, not sure if that is gubbins!

From a fiesta to this is a great move.
You've made your decision. You stick to it.
Doing homework everytime you spend 9k would cut into the time spending 9k.
If I had 9k, I would buy a second hand fast saloon/hot hatch for 2k-4k off an owners club with money for insurance, tyres and servicing.

I think everyone is missing the main issue here..

You went to a competitor for a USB hub?!!

Would you agree that the guy who bought the carcraft Clio should stick to his decision, despite it being a truly awful one? Saying 'Oh well, I'm happy with my decision :)' is the forum equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears and going 'La, La, La, I can't hear you!'

Like it has been said previously, it's not an awful deal, but neither is it brilliant. The fact the the OP has made a £9,000 impulse purchase on a car that he hasn't bothered to research the common issues that affect it miffs me a bit. As does it 'Feeling right' to drive, despite the OP admitting to driving a grand total of 5 cars since passing his test, none of which were BMWs (and I dare assume none of which are a significant step up from a 1.3 Fiesta... that being said neither is a diesel 1 series, in my humble opinion ) and the fact that is has essentially bought it because of the Badge on the front (then again, that means he'll fit in with all the other 1 series owners out there! :p).

A very poor buy by all accounts.
Why is it?? Assuming the car isn't dead ropey (which it doesn't appear to be) if he likes the model then what's the issue?

Admittedly he should have done a bit of research before he bought one at all to make sure he definitely wanted one but the fact he didn't surely doesn't mean it's a 'very poor buy by all accounts'.

OP: I quite like the 1 series, not that I would buy one myself but still think it's a nice car. Yours is a nice colour too :). Hope you enjoy it mate :)

Poor buy because he didn't do any research (thus not being aware of the deadly flaps from hell), bought the first car he saw and then bought it because it was much better than his Fiesta (what a surprise).
