My new Dell 2405FPW - pictures & first impressions

Overall do people that have purchased the screen feel very happy with their purchase? I was thinking of buying the screen because I do a lot of image editting (I do graphic design) and was thinking of using my current 19" CRT monitor in place of the current 15" CRT model; and use it for displaying palletes and other programs that I am running at the same time.

And then using the 2405FPW as the main screen, mostly due to its size, I suppose it would be awesome for graphic work, as well as for games like counter strike.

Talking of which, when playing CS (or any other FPS game for that matter) do you find it easier for headshots and the like? I mean because the targets are rather obviously going to be far larger than say on a 17 inch screen :/

Meh, well I usually play at 1024x768... (though CS is the only game I play at such a low resolution) it really helps with sniping I find... though it may just be because I am used it it or something... maybe a mental thing... all other games 16x12 TBH....

im very happy with mine, tho onyl gripe i got with it ,is it dont like being connected to me ntl box with either scart to vga or scart to component. as for css and headshots, its the same no matter what the screen, poin in the genral direction let out 3 shots and you get a headshot due to the naff netcode:) still fun to play tho

Actually I dont normally play source, Despite owning a PC that is easily able to run it, I prefer CZ and 1.6... I find source more something to do on occasion, but I prefer the other 2 in general.

I will probablly just keep my TV for tv and use the dell + 19" monitor for everything else... though you think there is any chance they are gonna make a bigger monitor than the current 24"? one thing that is a slight concern is how the heck am I gonna make room for a 24" and a 19" monitor :(

Can i just add guys that as soon as I get mine I will test this over component and VGA using the Xbox-development kit I have here, So I will post up results as soon as I get it!

Will be very interested to hear about the results...from the xbox I've found PGR2 to be nigh flawless, but murky, muddy-toned halo2 to have apparent ghosting in dark areas.

aye PGr2 is good on this screen, tho i never noticed any ghosting when i played it last. one thing i hate is Pro evo Soccer 4, looks god awful on this screen its playable but dont look nice:/

oh and where did you happen to nab a dev kit from?

i took a lot of pics to do a review for this screen, try and dig em out again.

basicly players on normal tv screen look nice fluid and sharp. but on this screen they look fuzzy. its the same for the ps2 version as well

really liking it so far, hard to get over the sheer size tho! before anyone says it as well, yes......i know, i need a new keyboard / mouse ;)
You certainly don't need a new mouse, intellipoint 5 button is the best mouse ever!

I've noticed a rar posted somewhere in the post having some of the high ress images.

Have a look on dA guys, there's loads of wallpapers for all sorts of resolutions on there :)

http://wp.deviantart.com/wallpaper/?view=2&order=5&limit=120&res=22

And to come back to the topic, I'm still debating with myself if I should get it, as it does appear to be a great monitor, but I'm not sure if my uni wallet will be able to cope with it >.<

It is expensive but it's a stunning monitor.
I got lucky, got mine as a free upgrade from a 2005fpw. I was happy with the 2005fpw, great for the price. It was a massive improvement on my old 17" crt, the widescreen 20" is a very nice size. It did have some backlight bleeding though, which was noticable when trying to watch films in the dark.
My 2405fpw has no backlight bleeding that I can see and the extra size makes it even better for film watching and great for photoshop and 3ds max work. My 6600GT struggles even more with games though :( looks like I'll have to buy a 7800GT

It just wouldnt really - not without reducing IQ way too much to get the min FPS in todays games...

Best to run it non-native with that gfx card...

ps3ud0

The only games I would play are HL2 and WoW (maybe) seeing as I can't really play any other multiplayer games on the uni network :@

But other than that, it would be used for a lot of media watching, as I don't own a TV :D

http://users.over-clock.com/ukdave/WS.rar might be the archive you were talking about. Few added ones in: http://www.over-clock.com/ukdave/WS2.rar

sizspeed can you add your email address info to your profile please? Want to ask you some questions about the TFT when you receive it. :)

Done... give me a shout on Wed as the monitor will be here tomorrow :)

I've actually got a couple of questions for the people that own this baby.

How would you rate the screen for watching media on from about 5 - 6 meters away. Stuff like DVDs and DivX/XviD TV content? (obviously in full screen :))

Also, if any of you watch anime frequently how would you rate it for watching that from 5 - 6 meters away? (If you don't watch anime, just give it a go with a DVD with subtitles on)

If someone could test these out and give me their oppinions I would be grateful :)

5-6 meters? Hope you have good eyes...the further you get from the screen the less ghosting is apparent, but I personally wouldn't sit more than 2-3m from a 24" screen.
