Larz do you mean the black bars top and below when watching films?

ah i think i will have to give the thread a miss then :(

Just got a 2405 with my new system last week ....

Overall the screen is simply amazing, Its my first TFt and i am probably overwhelmed but i cant notice any probems with playing any games ( Q3, Q4, BF2 and also World Of Warcraft ).

Only time i notice anything is when my screensaver kicks in due to it being black screen with multicolor lines ( flurry one linked on here somewhere ) and the lines leave trails a bit but dissappear after abit when a color moves across it.

Other than that could highly reccomend this.

Hello.
Just a quick question about the 2405fpw.
Thinking of buying one to replace my 19" Philips that I managed to crack (don't ask!)
Anyway, I only have (by modern standards) a basic 128Mb Nvidia FX5200 and wonder if this is sufficient to drive this monitor at its maximum resolution?
I do not play games so it would be used mostly for general photo editing and DVD viewing.

Help appreciated.
Andrew

Nope, I mean the Nvidia Display optimization wizard.

right click, propeties, settings, advanced, Geforce tab, tools, display optimization wizard.

or

rightclick, Nvidia Display, Dell 2405FPW, Geforce tab, tools, Display optimization wizard.

It would be much apprciated if 2405fpw owners (who have an Nvidia card) Could let me know if they can get past the first stage of the calibration wizard. This is the section where you must adjust your brightness with shades of grey fading to black. You've basically gotta make the top two bars of almost black indistigisable from each other ie black.

Thanks for anyone who can check this.

Just found a dead pixel on my 2405 tonight, just over a week old :(

Was told in store that dell swap the monitor for any amount of pixels so will be ringing them in the morning.

Hope all goes well

Just rung dell and was told monitor would need to have 7 dead pixels to warrant a swap - not impressed seeing as its only just over a week old and was told would be able to get a swap regardless of how many dead pixels.

Calling ocuk now, hope they can shed some light on things

Your gonna call me a right whiney **** but its only 1 dead pixel and not in main view, but seeing as its brand new and i was told i would be able to get it swapped i think i should take them up on the offer if its posisble.

Otherwise backlight seems ok

i wouldnt be happy with a dead pixel on something brand new. even after a few months personally and would be going ape over it.
i paid extra on my lcd projector so the company would do a pixel check on it for me - just in case

Well I was lucky with my first 2405FPW as it had no dead pixels, I'm afraid this is just the joy of buying LCD screens, they may have dead pixels (unless you buy one from a manufacturer with a 0 dead pixel policy).

Don't Dell offer a 30 day satisfaction guarantee?

Dont think so but the thing i am anxious about is that when i picked mine up from the shop i was told if it had any dead pixles it would be swapped as they had a special policy / agreement with dell or something like that

Either way i think it should be swapped or something as i dont class it to be of a satisfactory condition when at 10 days it develops a dead pixel for a £600 monitor tft or not.

That sound like BS to me ;)

I'm pretty sure that Dell has a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, worth rining Dell to find out, just say your not satisfied with it (don't need to be specific) :D

On phone to dell now ( in queue again ) gonna ask em about that satisfaction guarentee as i just did a quick search and a well known and respected uk hardware review site says they have the guarentree.

Just got off the phone with dell customer care and they say that if its got less than 7 pixels and tech support wont swap it then they would only be able to swap it within 7 days of reciept of purchase as a business customer as a damaged system and as its over 7 days they say i have to speak to ocuk as they wont swap it...

Phone bill steadily increasing along with frustration...
