My new Dell 2405FPW - pictures & first impressions

I guess the staff at certain high street stores will breathe a sigh of relief if it does

........"of course this plasma is High Def"

but it only has a screen res of 852*480?

........"thats perfect.....now give us yer money!!!!!!!"

speaking of hi-def - what do 2405 owners think of native HD stuff on their screen? just ive got a lot of 1080i and some 1080p stuff here that should look stunning on the 2405 :)

yep it looks stunning alright. but 24" is too dinky for HD material imho :D

shame hdtv from sky will be hdmi only:/

Looks like someone didnt read above hee hee.

It was confirmed ages ago that 1st generation boxes will be component.
Also the majority of content will not feature HDCP as this would detract from the amount of viewers simply because of very few people having DVI/HDMI compatible sets.

You cant try and create a new technology/service and cripple your early adopters this is one reason why most channels even in the USA are free from HDCP. No doubt some form of copy protection like macrovision could be used but digital encryption shouldnt be widespread but this is Sky were talking about who knows for sure yet. An announcement will be due soon as demo units will be in some selected stores prior to Christmas.

Sky have not announced what channels will actually offer HDCP but it could be on pay-per-view broadcasts,.

HD recorders are widespread in the states but D Theatre with firewire is commonly used.

Dont get your hopes up too much about exporting content besides sky HD will allow recording anyways and playback (perhaps limited though) via its internal harddrive.

I am getting my 2405FPW today, after getting a refund on my 2005FPW (I've had 3 of them) due to backlight bleeding. has anyone had any backlight issues with the 2405FPW?

DON'T TEMPT ME YOU SATAN LOVER! Argh....! I'm probably going to get the Eizo 21" as I can't be ***** with Dell customer support. It is tempting...but knowing my luck I'll get one with the whistling noise.

I moved from 3x2005FPW all of which had serious bleed issues to a 2405FPW which is pretty good, in a completely blacked out room one edge is just slightly brigher than the rest but it really is nit picking, in normal light conditions its perfect.

Cheers Headrat. I'm hoping for no backlight issues, i don't mind a little haze in a corner just as long as it is not all four!

EDIT: Its arrived one word can only describe it "fantastic". :D

Colour defaults are very bright mine are Currently set at:

Red: 36
Green: 35
Blue: 32

Plus no dreaded backlight bleeeding. What colours have you guys got yours set at?

display settings > advanced > the section for your card > desktop management > enable nview desktop manager > user interface > tick "enable display gridlines" and edit the options for them :)

Well, I got my 2405 last week and wow, what an awesome piece of kit.

It's so good words can't describe it, no issues with it either which is good.

Plus after getting rid of my 19" CRT I have some desk space again!!

There are places which sell HDMI>DVI cables - I think QED make one
