My new weekend toy - Supra TT :-)

its low miles which I presume he demands top $ for it....and the service history
It doesn't have any extras such UK brakes, active spoiler etc. Im pretty sure if you hold out a bit that price will be coming down.

yes keep an eye out for it, the price is going up on them but i think 6k is a lot to ask for it. At the end of the day with supras its mostly about what someone wants to pay and is willing to pay.

A little update on this

I have decided not to blend the lip as it will just end up cracking but its been fixed down better than it was before.

The front number plate has been removed and smoothed (ill be running the plate in the window until i get in trouble) lol

Few Pics below of progress

I have made some recent purchases, Glass Headlights, Defi Gauges, Oil pressure, Oil temp and boost with a controller box and a 3 a pillar pod. I'm upping the boost as soon as I get a boost controller so I need brakes to stop the car, currently running JSPec 2 pot fronts and 1 pot rear :S, I have recently bought UK brakes, which are 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rear, these will be refurbished with new seals and pistons and painted in either the body colour or black (not decided).

OCUK-32.jpg

OCUK-33.jpg

As for the car, in previous pictures the bonnet scoop issues were not obvious but its dropped, the starlet scoop is steel and the bonnet is alli so it could not be welded and they used rivots and then fibre glass. Touch wood its not reacting any more so the car will be put back together and buffed. I have also had the engine bay painted too (masking off the engine and removing the components on the sides).

OCUK-34.jpg

OCUK-35.jpg

OCUK-36.jpg

I have replaced the stock air intake with an after market HKS mushroom filter, the reason for this was my inter cooler pipework had to be bodged (by me) with the original stock intake the pipe with the kit that goes from the arch into the engine bay got in the way of the intake so I used a 45 degree silicone elbow and used the original pipe, the elbow was a weak point where I would always get leaks from there so I decided to put the original pipe work on with the kit and just buy an after market air intake. Ill take some pictures of this and update.

What is next.... Well a few of us are getting together for FF7 meet in early April (watching the movie), so my aim is to have the car ready for this, this also includes buying wheels.. Which im shopping for at the minute. I think I have a set in mind, is anyone familiar with japan racing wheels? Quality etc I would prefer opinions from actual owners rather than the "the wheel costs £200PW so its going to be rubbish" comments from non owners :)

Pictures added and forgot to add I have also bought a HKS SSQ3 which has been welded into a 4" intake pipe, this replaces the shiny alloy pipe in the picture above. I will be blocking the stock recirculating valve.

I also have a set of spare turbo pipes which I will be either painting gloss black or crinkle painting them. I havent decided yet but the engine theme will be black. You can see a little red on the bulk head but that cant be painted, thats an engine out job!

April Update....

I have gathered a lot of bits to fit to the car…

I bought a full UK brake setup as well as Defi Gauges plus controller, a leather covered 3 pod a pillar, a set of facelift seat bolt covers and focal front and rear speakers including SRD speaker mounts.

OCUK-38.jpg

OCUK-39.jpg

OCUK-40.jpg

First thing I sent about doing was to mask the discs and paint the hubs black, I did this to the front sets too and left them to dry overnight after a 2nd coat.

OCUK-41.jpg

OCUK-42.jpg

The 3 gauge a pillar from a member was awesome quality, the leather work on it was brilliant but it was red and had to be dyed black.. It had OEM fixings which was awesome as I didn’t fancy drilling into it. Jay had some black leather dye that he also sent. I went about dyeing the part that would have to be cut off for an aero fit, once happy I began to do the remainder. Using my stock a pillar as a guide and some rubber bands I used a dremel and cut to the shape. I was happy with the results….

OCUK-47.jpg

OCUK-48.jpg

I sent the brakes away to a company to have them refurbed and painted, the main reason for sending them away is I didn’t have the time to refurb them myself and I wanted a high quality paint finish in a custom colour.

I ripped the carbon vinyl off my dash panels that I did myself. I decided to get my dash panels and some engine components water transferred in “carbon”, when I went to select the colour I went for silver carbon as it looked the most “realistic”, A week or so later I got them back, and at first glance it looked a little brighter but could look better once on the car….

OCUK-49.jpg

OCUK-50.jpg

With the car being back I could crack on with the mountain of jobs I had to do before the FF7 supra meet...

Defi Controller and Gauges

The defi controller was enclosed in a nicely carbon DIN but since I had a double din stereo I had to put it in the glove box as the centre console required too much modification. I drilled a hole behind the glove box for all the cables and then wired it all up (believe me it wasn’t an easy job). Then I had to take all the wires from the glove to the a pillar, I zipped tied along the way. The main problem I had was the A pillar wasn’t sitting in place even with is own clips, I think the cables behind it was forcing it to POP out of its position. Ill be fixing it in with a self tapper but for now I left it off and put the boost gauge in the vent.

OCUK-51.jpg

OCUK-52.jpg

The gauges I have currently is Boost on top, oil temp centre and EG at the bottom, I will be replacing the EGR with a water temp when I come across one as I wasn’t planning to plumb it in to my stock manifold!

Heckler PCB

I also fitted my PCB behind the speedo cluster and it made a world of difference, I wasn’t still happy with the look of it as it still looked dated so in the future I may get some metal monkey covers or some fancy looking indiglow type covers. I've got some heater buttons on route to replace the custard ones.

OCUK-53.jpg

SRD Speaker Brackets and Focal Speakers

I decided to install some sound deadening to my doors and rear arches whilst I had the door cards off. I bought some B&Q flashing as recommended by a member and also some 2mm underlay foam, I didn’t want to spend a small fortune on the “proper” stuff but this I was told would do the trick. I put foam on the rears but forgot take pictures of them.

OCUK-54.jpg

OCUK-55.jpg

OCUK-56.jpg

OCUK-57.jpg

Front and Rear Camera

I bought a front and rear dash camera as I didn’t trust other drivers and for some peace of mind, I installed it all at the same time when my dash and a pillar was off, I routed all the cables around the car and hidden from view. (ill get proper photos of it later.)

OCUK-58.jpg

DRL On and Off switch

The DRL I had installed I wired to on ignition so they were always on, I installed an on and off switch the only issue is that they were also my indicators so this was mainly for when I was taking photographs at night and I want the car running but don’t want the DRL on for the picture and in case I wanted to follow someone unnoticed:P

OCUK-59.jpg

Carbon Wing Mirror Covers

I picked these up from Thailand, literally a flexible piece of carbon that just goes over the OEM and has sticky pads inside to fix them into place. Simple and effective, best thing was that it matches the weave of my TRD carbon blade.

OCUK-60.jpg

Carbon Reverse Scoop

I managed to pick up an ultra rare reverse carbon scoop for my bonnet (stops **** from getting into my bay too), when it arrived although the carbon was in very good condition, it wasn’t the same weave as my spoiler/wing mirrors and I spoke to Allan Massey who recommended a bloke from York so I sent my scoop to him to have it redone in the same weave. I found another scoop but in crap condition so I had that sent to adam at sycross so I could sell the other one.

OCUK-61.jpg

OCUK-62.jpg

Managed to get the car sorted in time for the FF7 meet (4th of April), what a day! I had 4 days to work on the car and most of the above I did in those 4 days so it was mad. I thought I had a boost leak because my car was making a funny gasping and hissing noises, doing 65 on he motorway as a precaution. I turned up pretty late but it was a good meet and the movie was excellent. I didn’t take any pictures of my car then but yesterday (bank hol) I took it for a drive after resolving a HID issue and an indicator problem. My car was boosting fine :) hit 1.1 bar nicely, I think I was paranoid as I had recently changed my stock intake for a HKS one I got from a member and had recently had some work done near the intercooler on my gearbox cooler but all seems well. It makes aload of noises which at first you think WTF but it’s kind of a cool noise :) Sounds like a BOV.

OCUK-63.jpg

OCUK-64.jpg

I took some pictures whilst out, the car got a lot of attention ;)...

About time we had some type of update, the car looks really great man.

cheers mate, have you bought yours yet?

Love it. I'm not sure if it's the look of the car as a whole or the fact that this has clearly been done by someone who enjoys doing it and isn't shy to use whatever materials he has available.

It's not my cup of tea to drive (I'm more into the stealth / sleeper look) but it's certainly got presence. Well done.

Please ditch the a-pillar gauges though :p

EDIT: Just flipped through the thread. I didn't see the initial condition of the car when you got it, nor that it was your first go at modding a car, so even more points for that!

Cheers mate, I dont mind spending money on it but certain things like sound proofing etc I dont mind using alternatives if they work. As for the gauges, I love gauges so there staying for now :) I have fitted them to the car and it looks great, I will take a picture of it and post it up.

As for the stealth look, a supra can never be stealth :)

Looking brilliant!

You still going to the UKSO rolling road day at Tuning Developments?

Hi mate, yes that is the plan however my brakes have arrived and I think my mechanic could be open on Sunday and if he is I would rather get that done. I dont think I will be running the car though as I do not have a boost controller and nothing much has changed since I last got it dyned. Ive added a front mount and a induction kit since. If i haven't booked the mechanic I will defo come and watch. Are you running?

pff you attention seeker! :p

Looking good m8 I like what you've done with the inside especially installing some proper speakers :)

I havent had the speakers on full blast yet but im off this friday on a road trip somewhere havent decided, they will be severely tested :)

Looks amazing! Love all the pictures in the OP as well as the latest :)

If you're spending all that money on the car though, maybe fix your phone :p?

cheers. LOL yes im too poor for that. Its my iphone5 i got via work, the contract is due for renewal so I should be getting an iphone 6 soon :)

Late reply but good job on the engine bay, can't stand resprayed cars which have a mis-matched engine bay :D

Car looks loads better than when you first got it, only bit that lets it down a little is the fake carbon interior panels - but that's just my opinion :) Really good job on it though, keep it up :)

If they sold real CF interior panels id be all over them, maybe a bit further down the line but I would rather put that money aside for a single turbo kit.

The car is work in progress so Ill be changing it all the time,
Ill be giving the engine bay a makeover soon, I haven't posted pics yet but its not picture ready.
BTW i need to straighten the intercooler :)

Nice car, the backwards scoop isn't my cup of tea but the car as a whole looks stunning :)

I am not 100% keen on it but its providing a function, that opening is right above my spark plugs so I can not have water getting in. It will be replaced with the stock scoop once the weather is better, I am trying to source one in carbon at the moment but its difficult:(

Well my mechanic is not around Sunday so I will probably turn up as ill be passing anyway.

Question, does your speedo/rev counter need to work in order to run?

I need real carbon on the outside of my car ;)
I might be able to do something with it, currently someone is working on redoing another scoop I bought like the one I have now and doing it in the same pattern as my rear spoiler blade and wing mirrors. He might be able to make me something.

I went to the lake district in the supra on Friday and came back on sat. Lovely drive, recommend it to anyone. Kirkstone pass is amazing.

Took a few shots

I used some thin sticky coloured paper behind the buttons to give some colour.

Uk calipers

As mentioned previously i bought some UK Big brakes and sent them off to be refurbed and painted, they came back...finished in the same colour as my car.

Booked a mechanic (supra owner) to fit them whilst I was at work, I will have a go at most things on my car but brakes is something I will leave to the experts...

OCUK-82.JPG

OCUK-83.JPG

Whilst the car was in the air I serviced it

OCUK-76.jpg

OCUK-74.jpg

OCUK-75.jpg

It took him about 8 hours to finish the changing and bleeding plus full fluid change, and being a 20 year old car, he came across many issues but finally it was complete and time to fit the wheels on....Oh wait they didn't fit!

Lucky for me I suspected that they wouldn't (they were sold with spacers and I was told that they would fit over these brakes), and had a plan on what to do, I had a friend (buyer) for these wheels when my new ones arrive... Him and his brother (both supra owners) turned up to loan me their spares so I could get the car back in the garage and then the following day we agreed to swap my current wheels with my old wheels which I had on my car originally (which I sold), I knew these would fit. Anyway here are some pictures, these will be my winter wheels (no choice LOL)...

Very nice, makes me miss mine, the interior was such an awesome place to be

Love the interior, feel like a pilot every time I drive it :)

Literally just about to post how I can't deal with those black and silver wheels and you changed them for something decent! :D

I had no choice really but these are perfect for the winter, they do need a refurb. Cant wait to get the new ones :)

May I ask how much the buttons were? The Climate control panel in my Celica is going the same way although not as bad as yours.

I got them from here http://www.amayama.com/, toyota wanted £91 and I got it from that website delivered for £40 however I got stung by import and it was around 68, still cheaper than toyota. Some people were fortunate not to pay the import tax though. They came really quick, basically you make an enquiry and someone sends you an email and your order appears on the website.

Not into cards at all, but the OP got me hooked and I just read the entire thread.. :D Lovely car and amazing work :)

cheers

hold on - you left the brakes to an "expert" who took 8 hours??

remember there is no ramp in my garage so it was all done on his back, and yes many things were seized on. Backing plates needed to be trimmed down etc. If I had done it, it would have taken me longer.

What's the running cost and reliability on these?

I'm guessing sub 30mpg? :p

Also: auto/manual turbo/non turbo?

I'm 25 and find it impossible to get insurance on these with only 1 years no claims and 1 year named. But I would consider one in the future if the costs for running are not obscene.

There are plenty on the forum around your age, all depends on where you live and how many miles. Im paying 550 with 5k miles but im 33, it was 400 last year but I had an accident (if you can call it that) in Jan in another car. I also declared more mods and upped the value to an agreed 13k (compared to 9k. Mine is a auto twin turbo aero top (they didn't make a aero TT6 only in the US).

As for MPG, I do not calculate it, I have a daily diesel so I know there is a difference, for example a journey that would cost me £20 in the Leon is almost double in the supra but its worth it especially when the weather is good and the roof is off and you can hear turbos spooling :)

I get around 17 - 22mpg on mine, maybe a little better on longer journeys, it's not great on fuel but a lot of fun.

I have an auto and would deffinately have another but was a little skeptical at first. The 6 speed manuals do carry a premium, in my opinion it's not a premium worth paying for, certainly not £5000 odd over a same spec auto.

There is also a 5 speed box but it doesn't really like too much power, as a general rule BHP wise if you are looking at upgrades without any rebuilding of box parts...

5 Speed box - Around 400BHP max but some even die at this power
Auto - Up to around 550BHP max
6 Speed - Pretty much whatever you want, 1000+ not uncommon.

^spot on
need to see some pics ;)

August update

Nur Spec R exhaust has finally arrived from Japan after 6 weeks! Talk about over night parts from Japan LOL

I was very worried about the fit against my after market lip but it sits perfect compared to the previous exhaust. Fuel filter has also been changed at the same time..
