My wife had a fall :-(

Good luck getting a £3k TV as a replacement for your old one, the 4K series are not a direct replacement, I would envisage this is more likely to be what they would consider a like for like

http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-55LA660V

Of course the the 65" 4K set wouldn't be a replacement neither would the any 55" set, but said store does have a 60" LG set for £1749 so putting the extra £250 quid to get the 55" 4K set is a definite possibility an extra £1250 for the 65" is pushing my bank balance a bit though.

I know LG are not the best, but the last 3 large screen TVs I've had have all been LG's and I personally really cannot fault them. Where as my sons Sony 32 inch panel has gone wrong 3 times in two years, and the Panasonic in my bedroom has gone wrong once already and its only year old.

I'd only buy the TV if it included a 5 year warranty. Repair bills are usually costly.

The reason why the other TVs have had issues is either down to luck or they are cheap crap, regardless of the brand name every brand does make crap products to suit those who still want a brand name on a budget.

Plenty of people will tell you Panasonic make far better plasma's than lg as do Samsung.

Sony are currently the best for LCDs.

I believe lg are leading the way with oled though so they are good just not for plasma or LCD

You pushed the wife into the tv to get a new one dint you ^^

Hope she grand. I think when my mate tv broke from a certain chain store they give him a voucher after testing the old set to run round the store to spend

Yup that is the way it works, the voucher obviously, not me pushing the wife. ;)

Just a case of hope it can get sorted quickly, I don't relish having to put up with a 32" set for too long.

They get 7 days from when they pick it up to get it repaired and ready to ship it back to you.

If it does get written off you will get a voucher for a TV of similar spec or higher. As its a plasma at 60" you will have to end up getting a suitable LED replacement. Just remember the main spec of your TV is 60". If the voucher does not cover a 60" then the store can ring up KH and get it raised.

why will he "have to" have an LED as a replacement? I wouldn't accept that tbh
what if a LED isn't actually "suitable"

From what I've read the LG plasma's are pretty highly regarded, for around the £1k mark there doesn't really seem to be anything comparable.

If they are unable to repair cost effectively and they can't source a plasma for you I'd make sure every tiny little feature of your TV is there on whatever they offer, even if it costs more than your original TV.

How do these warranties work with regards to "we think its worth x" heres a voucher, can you add more to it if needed? Or is there any discussion as to what they think its "worth"?

depends on the store, I have no idea what store he is talking about but JL don't cover accidental damage and they are the best ones to go to for a under warranty repair.

they will offer you several comparable tv's if you make a case they are inferior they will usually let you pick a tv that you can prove is comparable.

they will also allow you the option to upgrade the set sometimes for free just to keep you happy or sometimes you need to pay the extra, but if you pay the extra it is seen as a new tv purchase so you get a brand new 5 year warranty on the replacement upgraded set.

so lets say you had a 42" GT50 which is a panasonic flagship panny plasma you could argue none of the current LED's come close to it for PQ. they would then offer you your money back or let you pick any 42" TV that you though was suitable or upgrade you to a 50" tv sometimes for free or at a low cost.

i think someone on here upgraded from like an old panny plasma which was 42" to like a 50" VT65 for £300 more when he sent his back under warranty. that's just a ridiculous deal for the extra money.

tbh I don't know many places that cover accidental damage as then say you have a 5 year cover, what's to stop me from breaking my tv 6 months before the cover runs out on purpose just to get a new tv?

DSG did include it on the 5 year Coverplan when I worked for the Purple Shirts in the late 90s.

I remember a bloke bringing the pieces of a 4 year old Packard Bell in that he'd "accidentally" thrown down the stairs and demanding a new PC there and then. :D

The store is the keema masala one and the cover is any damage or fault for whatever reason. As it should be for £15.99 a month.

The set cost me £2499 nearly five years ago and at the time it was the top of the range set that LG did. I certainly will not be putting up with any nonsense about any substandard replacements.

As for features.

LG, Plasma, 60", 4 HDMI,RF, component and composite inputs, wifi and Ethernet, DLNA, Bluetooth, usb

So there isn't one that has all those features, so a compromise of sorts will have to be made. Me adding extra cash to get a better set isn't too much of a problem but it will depend on what they say to begin with to what sort of price there is as a starting point.

Sorry I should have been more clear, I thought it was going to be pretty clear about what they would do.

There are currently 2 plasma's that currys do, neither are 60". Infact they only go up to 51".

So the OP, if he wants a 60" screen is going to have to go down the LED route. There is no if's, no buts, JL wouldnt cover this sort of thing either before anyone starts having a go about getting a refund.

OP, your voucher will be generated if its written off and a suggestive replacement will be given on the voucher, you will not have to go for this model however. You get that x amount on the voucher for that replacement TV as it will hit as many of the specs that you originally had, regardless of cost. If you think that one model has the spec that you had but there is a price difference, there are set policy in store that you can go down.

£16 a month? is £192 a year over 5 years is £960.

do you realise you have been bent over and shafted?

My 50" GT50 cost £799 brand new with 2 sets of 3D glasses and included a 5 year warranty.

you paid £960 to cover an ancient LG plasma albeit 60", you do know John Lewis were selling brand new 60" LG plasmas last year for less than £1K?

to put this into reality, with the money you have spent on cover you could have had a brand new 60" LG tv sitting there already alongside your current one, even if you hadn't broken it. I mean you could have 2 working 60" TV's should you have not broke it and not paid for this ridiculous cover.

Also you most likely could have added accidental damage to your home insurance for a lot less than £16 a month and it covered more than just your TV.

With a disabled wife, and an borderline autistic son, I'm quite happy to have that sort of cover as I know that at any time if something like this was to happen then the item will be replaced no questions asked.

The Bluray player has been replaced 6 times in the last 4 years because unfortunately my wife has a habit of breaking these things.(she drops a kettle at least once a month) To be honest I'm surprised the TV has lasted this long before she pulled it over.

Sorry to hear this but Who cares as long as your Missus is Ok. :)

Thank you.

She is ok, just a few more bumps and scraps, her falling is a common occurrence and she is too stubborn to use her chair inside the house.

did he get a new PC?

Not in store on that visit. He got referred to the insurance company who backed up the warranty scheme ... which he'd have known if he'd read the documentation. The look on his face when the manager insisted he'd have to take the pieces away with him was priceless. :D

In the early days they used to give them DSG vouchers to the original purchase price, then it changed a equivalent spec. So £1500 of Apricot PC turned into a £700 Acer.

Door rings whilst I'm there, I'll get it ! No you ******* won't answer my front door !!!

Obviously if I didn't know her so well then I wouldn't laugh but if you knew her & she knew I wasn't laughing She'd kick my ****. :D
