My wife had a fall :-(

Bru have you had any updates?

No final out come as of yet, they are on day eight of the ten day timescale before I can ask for it to be replaced and the knowhow website says they are waiting for parts to repair it, so I will just have to wait and see.

There is no 10 days time scale

ring them back up and say your policy gives a 7 day turn around from pickup and that you are requesting it to be wrote off

Well I can believe you or go by the paper work in front of me, I think I'll go by the paper work thank you ;)

The only thing with wall mounting is that wall is a paper thin plasterboard type of thing, I wouldn't trust it with the weight of that set 51kg. Hopefully any replacement will be much lighter.

You need to find the beams in the wall. There's devices you can buy that can detect them for you to mount the wall bracket bolts.

Even with finding the support studs I still would want to hang that much weight on the wall.

Strange. I assumed all plasterboard walls were the same. I've had my TV on them for years. Each TV getting lighter but the max this mount can take is 59kg. Never had any warping or buckling on the beams.

The store is the keema masala one and the cover is any damage or fault for whatever reason. As it should be for £15.99 a month.

The set cost me £2499 nearly five years ago and at the time it was the top of the range set that LG did.

£15.99 x 12months x 5 years.......... nearly a grand........hmmm

Its only money. ;)

How much did you spend on your vehicle insurance over that period just in case the unfortunate happens?

That is different in this country you don't have a choice with vehicle insurance plus it's not only about covering the vehicle.

I think in future you would be better of using home insurance and put a fairly high excess on it this is what I do so it covers everything in the home.

Good to hear the wife's alright

I many years ago saw an elderly gentlemen knock over tv and he needed emergency care in hospital he was told he was very lucky to still be alive.

You do know everyone is pretty much forced to buy car insurance if they want to you know own a car and use it? It's a legal requirement here in the UK.

It's not a legal requirement to insure your tv by a 3rd party however at ludicrous prices.

As stated many times in this thread, house insurance would be a better option or simply wall mounting the tv onto the beams within the crappy walls.

You could have bought yourself a new tv for instance as stated before with all the cash spent on protecting your old one.

Maybe if you only fixed into one vertical piece of stud-work but distributing the load across 2+ pieces of stud-work will be more than adequate imho (unless bob the builder built your house:p )

So all of you have never had any instant replacement insurance on any of your electrical goods, you just rely on your building insurance ?
You going to claim if your toaster packs up, or maybe your washing machine? It's all proportional, I do not consider £1000 over 5 years expensive to cover my tv, that amount would not replace it anyway, not with a comparable set. Anyway the excess on my building insurance is £600, so fine for if we get burgled or the place burns down, but not for what would effectively be a small claim.

Hindsight is wonderful thing

What if the tv was damaged at 6 months instead of 5? would you rather pay the WEH for the 6 months, or have to fork out £2.5K for a new TV, or go through Home insurance?

edit, as Bru says above, insurance would not be like for like, plux excess and premiums to pay for.

Bru, let me know if you havnt heard anything by Friday, if you trust me your repair ref I can check whats going on on the saturday when I'm next in

Personally I would never damage my TV, i'm not that careless.

It's covered for 5 years by John Lewis as standard (as are all their tv's) for anything that goes wrong with it. I am also covered by the SOGA for 6 years. Obviously accidental damage ain't covered.

If your accident prone and break things then insurance is a good idea otherwise if you look after your stuff and are careful it's not.

Insuring a toaster would be stupid they cost like £5 out asda.

Also I am willing to bet he could have bought a better TV for <£1000 last year. Because that is what LG's top of the range 60" plasma was selling for in John Lewis for last year.

Plasma is now EOL and therefore not available anymore that is why it's impossible to get a comparable set right now, but 6 months ago he could have had one easily for less than £1000.
