Hmmm. I was going to get this phone on contract next month. This has made me rethink that dicsion. I'll wait for more reviews but battery life is a big factor for me.

lol one bad review amoungst a sea of good ones.. Firstly the battery life is better than mentioned my phone hasnt run low on power yet, i had it on all day yesterday and only 3 bars of power were used.

The Camera is a little slow (maybe 2 seconds to startup on mine) and GPS is a little slow connecting, however I found that if I open the slider it connects quite quickly.:)

I suppose. But what I want is a good camera, can record video with reasonable quality and to have good battery life. Not bothered about music as I have an ipod and would never switch.

The GPS was a bonus but the 5MP camera is ever so tempting. I find the best way to remeber a night out is to take lots of photos and look at them the next day. It's great at Uni.

Out of how many. Also do you think this battery will last? I'm not taking insurrance on my hpone untill I get to Uni in october so I want it to last till then.

The video is really fantastic quality, the camera too in good lighting. However when i heard 5mp, I was thinking about getting rid of my digital camera, however its not good enough really to get rid of it. For a mobile phone the pics are good tho.

Out of 7 bars, I was playing around with GPS, wifi and camera tho (not all day!). As long as you turn it off at night It will definitely last 2 days. However its all subjective and hard to guess unless its tested properly.

Good then. I might get one but it will be £150 on contract so I'll wait for a while, at least untill next month before making a decision. I would have liked a flash though.

There is a flash:)

ps And I would definitely get insurance - uni + alcohol + N95 = disaster!

Well I'm getting it on O2, 1000txt and 600mins £35/mo. I'm at Uni in october, I'll be getting insurance for my PC below as well as my HDTV that I'm taking with me. I just don't know wether to put my phone on my contents insurrance or to go for the O2 all risks insurrance, in fact I'm not sure if I have to take up the O2 insurrance at purchase or whether I can take it up in october when I need it.

I believe you have to take it up when you sign on. I think contents insurance would be a cheaper way to go, but you wouldnt have your handset replaced so quickly as individual insurance.

Insuring a phone with your house insurance will be waaaaaaaaaay cheaper.

Well it will be student insurrance, by a company begining with E (can't remember the name). So if I lose my phone would I be insurred?

probably Endsleigh - check their policy, if I remember they cover loss (I used them at uni too). You will have to wait a few weeks (maybe a month) as they decide whether or not to replace or give you cash for it. Thats the difference between the 2 types of ins.

Well I can't be without a phone. And it is an expensive phone to replace. Suppose I'd have to pay an excess right?

Yep. One way would be to have a backup phone incase somthing happens to it. Just depends if you want to spend more or less really, or just not loose it! :D

I'm very eagar to get this phone, but I got a question guys.

I currently have a contract with Three, and I was wondering whether I can purchase a Simfree N95, and place my Three simcard into the phone? Does anyone know whether this will work, or will it violate the t&c for Three etc?

Been waiting for this phone to be released since last November, its finally here... now then, do I really need it!? lol

Anyway, Ive got a question regarding the GPS...

How are Nokia supplying the maps and voices POI etc. is this an additional service that you have to buy and sign up for? I assume this has to be download to the phone too which then costs even more through the network? or is it possible to download directly to your PC without needing to use 3G.. or whatever.

Say I were to get my lovely N95 tomorrow(I wish), download or what ever the UK maps and voices. would there be anymore to shell out in future for using the device to just to navigate around the UK?

Sorry for these questions but I have heard the a lot of the functionallity of the GPS as a typical satnav is not included and was wondering if this is something that nokia are looking to make some money on, on a journey by journey basis.

And by the way, does anyone have this on Orange yet? any SD card supplied there?

Cheers

Was in CPW at lunchtime having a play with one. Shop Manager said every shop had been sent one for eveyone to have a play/look at. He advised that the Nokia rep had said it would be a subscription service costing around £60/year and his advice would be to buy TomTom and install on phone, as it represented better value and software. He hadn't tried the GPS receiver so couldn't advise.

I had a play with the phone was surprised how light it was, but TBH it did feel a little cheap and plastic like. It was also very slow and we had to switch it off twice to get it to respond, once on initial start after installing a bettery and sim and second trying to close down Map, just sat there saying saving settings.

Not sure on it comparing it to my MDA Vairo II, yes it has a far superior Camera and yes it slightly smaller length wise and a little on the width but it the same depth and the Vario II has the keyboard sliding out, thought it would have been a lot thinner personally.

Would like to compare the Sat Nav with my Vario II running TT 6 with the external Sirif III GPS Receiver.

Personally I think I'll be waiting to see how people get on with it battery life etc.

Don't get me wrong it's a very nice phone come PDA but it's not for me, well at least not yet ;)

I think it would work on the three network however you wouldnt get all the three functions, ie skype, video, sling box etc. So I wouldnt see the point. I have no idea about the t and c's sorry - someone else might tho. I woukld wait a month as it will come out on three just not yet.

There are 2 extras, cityguides and navigation. But I am a little unsure as at the moment the GPS give you directions including spoken directions for free. Maybe you need the extra navigation options for it to navigate more than one waypoint? But no it seems you dont need to pay anything more.

I found this link, might be handy (about the navigation): http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/reviews/item/Nokia_N95-part_2_the_Navigator.php

You can get this on Orange at loads of places - cpw I think, and e2save. No there is no micro SD supplied.:( A 2 gig only costs £18 inc del tho.

That cpw guy has no clue! The subscription is for additional navigation options (not necessarily needed), I really suspect he was trying to sell you a Tom Tom.;)

Really suprised that you are saying it was slow - mine is very fast (certainly faster than a Vario II), and hasnt crashed once. The slowest bit is the 3d menu but I never use that - its just there for eye candy I think.

The GPS is a little slow to find the satellites and the battery life isnt that great - those are its weak spots.

I'd try another store and a different phone, yours sounded a little duff to me.:)

Incidentally I found a nice link with asnwers to lots of questions:

Ah, good old Nokia.

Design a fantastic handset, with a great screen, WiFi, Integrated GPS, etc and then go and take the battery used in the N80 and slap it in the N95.

Technical engineering at its best. :p

I have just upgraded my N70 to the N95 with Vodafone. It has cost me £50 for the handset, and £30 month for 18 months. I'll be getting 500 mins and 500 text every month, no rollover any more is the only downside, but I can live with that. ;)
