N95 Release

yeh same as me, I was with then since they were BT Cellnet - changed to T mob and havent looked back - the web and walk is great.

I hate taking out a contract, but being on O2 pay and go, i am just throwing money at it, calling cross network is costing me a small fortune. Just got off the phone to T mobile. Seems a good deal £30 a month for £180 worth of credit, the guy said something about if i was to share it out that is 1800 texts and 450 mins, but i can use the credit how i like. The only thing is i have to pay £130 for the phone itself, they want an extra £6.99 Per month for insurance aswell.

Did someone mention this phone comes in two different colours? I've only seen one colour (silver front / plum back).

Is the other colour actually available?

Looks like i will be going with T-Mobile now. Been phoning about and i just cant seem to get a good deal with either O2 or orange. Been with o2 since the day the Nokia 3310 came out, but they couldnt care less.

That's interesting as I pushed them very hard and got a great deal - It just depends who you get on the phone. Women are a lot better by the way as a rule...

my 2gig memory card turned up today (£15, which i thourght was quite reasonable) and after 10mins of trying to put it in the phone i realised it was the wrong way round :o

Does anyone else have a really flimsy and loose-feeling power socket on their n95? For such a premium handset mine's seriously lacking in fit & finish.

I'll be returning it tomorrow not for a replacement but a refund: I can't get a 3G signal around home despite my postcode coming up as "good" on T-Mobile's instore checker :(

I've been trying to find some information on the GPS unit in the phone, like the accuracy and protocols it uses. I looked on the Nokia website for the specifications :

http://shop.nokia.co.uk/invt/0027027&temp=allfeatures&layout=popupnoclose

It doesn't even mention GPS!!

What I really wanted to know, is although it has the maps, does it also display the latitude and longitude? Any idea on how accurate the positioning is?

There's a new firmware version on the Nokia Software Updater this morning for the N95 :

"Dear Updaters

We are pleased to announce a new software release for the Nokia N95 available through the Nokia Software Updater.

Due to potential backup/restore incompatibilities, we strongly recommend synchronising your Calendar details before updating your software.

Version 11.0.026 is available for most product codes, but please note that not all operator variants are included yet. These will be added as soon as they are available.

Warm regards,
The Nokia Software Updater team"

I'm updating now so I'll let you know when it's done :)

How are you doing the update? The website doesn't list the N95 on the update page? Also entering my product doesn't bring up any available updates.

My phone has a sim free, unbranded product code.

I simply used the Nokia Software Updater application to update it.

As it says in that little blurb above not all operator versions of the firmware are available yet, so I presume whichever network your own doesn't have their firmware updated and approved yet.

Ok, something I've noticed immediately with the new firmware, the few seconds delay between pressing the menu button and the menu appearing is gone.

It's instant now - no delay at all.

Well mine was an Orange N95 too before I changed my product code ;)

The unbranded product code I used and which works well is :

0536062

Whilst the original Orange code should you wish to change back is 0548170.

Whatever you do though, don't brick your phone :D I think altering all of this stuff renders you out of warranty etc.

Oh and yes - I used the standard Nokia updater to flash my phone to the latest firmware. But not to change the product code initially, obviously :)

I don't think he is. I think he's using the "Nokia Software Updater" application which is a stand alone program. I can't get it load up on my PC so can't test it. :(

The online updater doesn't work as all the product codes produce the same results "Sorry, there is no software available for your product code".

I know!

I'm still trying to find a changelist....

My phone certainly feels much, much faster. I can't actually find anything massively different yet though.
