N95 Release

Barcode Reader?

Who's ever used the Barcode reader?

I've tried, but it looks like you have to download some stuff?

If so where do you get it from?

-Matt

Can one of you enlighten me as to what the barcode reader actually does and how it could be remotely useful? Whenever i've seen the attempted use of it it's been really hard to get a good read...
Thanks :)

Hi all.

Thought this would be the best place to ask seen as your all nokia n95 people! :p

I have been offered by orange: 1400 xnet mins, free unlimited calls to land lines and 1000 txts a month for £30. I have been with them a few years so i always get a great deal from them.

They told me i can have the Prada phone from them for free. Im 99% sure that they will let me have the nokia n95 for free to. I really want a sirocco 8800 but orange dont do that handset.

Do you recon its a good idea for me to get the nokia n95, sell it and get the sirocco i want. What do you think realistically i can get for a new nokia n95?

Can i get £300 for it you think? I recon i can pick up a silver sirocco for about £250, so unless i can get a bit more than that for the nokia its not worth the hastle.

The Sirocco is the metal slider phone isnt it? If so, Orange do sell it, as ive seen it in my local Orange shop yesterday.
Although quote why anyone would want one is beyond me, as irrc, they're pretty dire. :p. Each to their own though. :).

Yeah orange do the sirocco, but only in black. So if you want silver, you'd ahve to buy whichever handset you want sell it and buy silver and lose any warranty...

There's the black one anyways...

Only my opinion here, but isn't the sirocco a bit "last year"? Have you ever used it? Battery life is about as good as the N95 (:p) but the phone itself is in the dark ages... And i wouldn't even say it was "popular" now... It just shouldn't be *that* expensive!

Looking at ebay prices, i think £300 is a brilliant price, most at the moment are going close to £400 but i have seen some go for about £350-380 ish.

I just picked one up from ebay for about £330, sim free and unlocked. Managed to convince the guy to do it for that price as he wanted £370 originally but a scammer beat me to the auction so offered it to me for that price but said if he did it for £330 then id definitely take it, altho i still would have bought it for £370 anyways:p...luckily for me my bluff worked:p...

I use to own a 8800 and its not once ever let me down over 18 months. Not a single dropped call or s/w crash. I now have a N95, its nice that it has all the whizz bang toys but my phone crashed twice today during a call.

But why anyone would want a reliable phone is beyond me.

The sarcasm would work better if there were only two phones on the market. ;).
The fact that the 8800 is overpriced & under featured makes it a daft choice to get imo, when there are other phones, like some of the SEs, that are just as reliable, cheaper, and do far more.

I chose the 8800 cause of the build quality and they hold their value well. Once you used a 8800 its hard to go back to plastic phones.

As for other phones having more features, what features do people really need?

The only feature I really use on my N95 is the a RSS reader via Wi-Fi. But this is something I can live without.

Your basically narrowing everything down to YOUR requirements.
Note how my posts say or imply 'imo'. ;)
The only thing the 8800 has going for it is the metal body, imo, as it should in theory mean its more durable. But as for reliability, i cant say ive had a single problem with any of the SEs ive had, which are almost half the price of the 8800, do more, and are very well built.

Now that the N95s have been out in the wild for a bit, how are people finding them?
General usage? Battery life? ect;?

:)

Ive got one on the way!!! Be here thursday i think.

Ive been looking about on the bay and they seem to be selling for anything between £250 and £400! :p

As long as i get enough to cover my sirocco i dont really care.

I think i might have a play with it for a few days, never know, i might like it enough to keep it. :D

I got mine on the day after its release. I am very happy with mine. The battery life is just as good as my N70. It has a really good camera for a phone. Some of the other features are quite nifty. The only disappointing thing is the sat nav, but just like the Video calling its more of a gimmick then some thing practical.

Best phone I have had so far ;)

What sort of usage do you give it?
Im quite a heavy txter, and only occasionally make/recieve calls.
So im wondering what sort of battery life i'd get from it?

i've had mine for a couple of weeks now and am still suprised by the battery life- everyone said it was terrible so i bought it knowing this. However, i have found the battery is more than comparable to my old n80. infact, considering what this badboy does i'm shocked at how long it lasts.

On standby, not using it very much- only the odd txt call etc mine lasts for 34 hours. with average usage of all the phones features it still lasts 2 days minimum. i've only used the sat nav for an hour here and there but have yet to charge the phone more than once in two days (and you are supposed to have it plugged into your car anyway for sat nav). i charge it every two days regardless, i've always got 4 bars left when i put it on as well. i dont know what all the fuss is about???

As usual 'SE techno geeks' getting things wrong and getting excited about putting a nokia device down or sparking a possible conspiracy theory. well the joke seems to be on them this time.... until it breaks that is...
