NEARLY 2 YEARS WAITING: New Mustang GT PP is finally mine!

Mine turned up this morning, I'm struggling to drive this thing sensibly

Hi there

OK so today the car had its first motorway experience as I drove down to Pumabuild Ltd in Birmingham for a rolling road run. I was expecting this car to hover around 25mpg on a run in the 60-80mph region, well reality is it is far better:

Really impressed with what it can return on a run, it really does the cruising thing superbly well and even though 6th is very tall geared, it will pull quite well from 60-80mph quite effortless for overtaking in 6th, drop to 5th and acceleration is superb.

The attention the car got on the motorway was surprising, people are all ages pulling alongside giving an approving nod or thumbs up, they might not be as rare as they once were but it still attracts huge amounts of positive reactions on the road. :)

So the car stock is 416PS which is 410BHP. I chose Pumabuild as they have a Maha MSR 500 dyno which has some pretty cool features, such as:
- Single contact patch rollers
- Motor in front roller so no need to disable traction systems or get ABS faults
- Can switch of front motor etc. giving good flexibility.

I like maha dyno's because they don't just use an operator set formulation to work out flywheel power, they do it quite accurately by calculating from coast down.

Car strapped down:

We did three runs, couple of videos:

The car should be run in 5th as closest 1:1 gear but we did first run in 4th as safer to check that nothing was at risk of getting too hot etc. Problem with running in 4th is you will get lower torque figure, the results were as follows:

Run 1 (4th gear): 410BHP / 360lb/ft
Run 2 (5th gear): 422BHP / 399lb/ft
Run 3 (5th grear): 415BHP / 403lb/ft

So the car is right on the money is ever so slightly over, very happy with results as car is making factory claimed figures or marginally better.

Got to love 160lb/ft at 1200rpm, more than many cars make peak, V8's for you.

Was also great and lucky that a guy who has spent a lot of time working on Mustangs in the US was there and gave me a lot of very good insight on super chargers and what to consider. He did let slip that Ford track key is coming for sure which should result in around 440BHP and maybe higher rev limit and carry a full Ford warranty. Also there is a limit of only 1400 UK Mustangs per year, which could help boost re-sale values as only half of those will be manuals of which around half will be V8's. Though V8's are still the more popular choice right now! :)

You guys have free reign over there though, Nice numberplate form factor, metal, any lettering you want for cheap, funky pictures, logos, stickers, anything goes. :p

Well, not really. You can have personalized text to an extent but all plates are made by the state government and while some states offer a choice of design you can't deviate from them.

There are also rules about covering plates in most states - in New Jersey you can get a ticket if you have a license plate frame obscuring the the 'Garden State' text at the bottom. You certainly wouldn't get away with putting stickers on your plates.

The cropped plate looks awful, but the stock one is too wide for the reg. The reason the one on the yellow one looks better is due to the spacing either side. It's somewhere between your cropped one and the full plate. The border also helps soften it too.

Edit - Should also say the car looks beautiful :)

Already put in £75 of v-power this weekend, everyone wants a test drive

Need to sort my insurance out too, currently on the 7 day Ford insurance. Admiral won't price match my online quote to an existing policy which means it'll be £300-400 more. They said I have to cancel my 2 week old policy on my Audi and use the online quote but it will cost me £74 to do so. Looking on the comparison websites e-sure will insure me for £400.

Ive been following this thread and it's giving me silly thoughts. We're starting to consider family, our first house buy is almost in the bag and i feel like if i'm going to get away with a wholly impractical car.. now is the time.

Thankfully the insurance quotes were a little steep (32, Manchester) and I don't think there's enough equity in the Audi to take enough chunk out of the V8.

Thankfully.

Oh god.

Hi there

Some of you will know I have a front splitter for the car, but have being holding of installation until I had decided on a rear wing, well on Friday evening I made a purchase of a genuine Ford Shelby GT 350 track wing in satin black, how it will look on my car:

The above photos are off the replica, the genuine item is almost identical just has better fitment. Deciding on a wing has being really tough, but when myself and Iceman found the original Ford items for only $425 it was too hard to refuse as Ford list this wing at $1300, so I am hoping my order is not cancelled as they have charged my card and put my order on, will take 6-8 weeks to arrive and then I need to get it professionally fitted as required drilling.

Going to fit it un-painted in the gloss black it comes as will work well due to black trim and rear decklid on the car. Though I do feel when I change wheels they will have to be a dark colour and dare I say it gloss black, as for some reason gloss black wheels or very dark wheels seem to work very well on this car, though am still looking at a more unique colour such as graphite black (very dark grey). Need to get it right though as wheel/tyre package is close to £3000 as I want Forgestar or MMR wheels, they aint cheap.

It will look sick Gibbo ;)

Cant wait to see it on when it arrives

Bailey

Will probably take me a month to fit it, considering the front splitter I've had since November is still not on the car and that is easy to fit, but yes the pair will look great. A little aggression but without being over the top, hence why I decided against the R wing and the R wing only really works on the 350 R due to the huge front splitter that car runs.
