NEC LCD20WGX2 review *** UPDATED 25/02/06 ***

You're scaring me now!

I suppose I'll find out tomorrow. I'd rather have bleed than any dead pixels.

My dads tft (old CTX) had a dead pixel right in the middle once. It was bright pink. It's disappeared now and working fine. Very odd.

Dup dont worry about it m8, just got a call fm Sarah at NEC and very helpful she is to. They are now fully aware of the issues which we are having and even matching us to our forum names as they are getting all info from 4 different forums about this. They are logging down all details and giving RMA numbers so we can deal direct with them. Dont need to ring them midweek for us who have already spoken to them she will ring you, for Dup and the others if you have any probs give em a bell. We can still use the monitors none of this time limit stuff and they are in communication with germany and waiting out for NEC in Japan. She has stipulated for us not to worry as the issue will be resolved and to give them about a week. They have also seen first hand the problems we are having as they have been testing their ones and seeing bleed. So there u have it good news as I was about to do a backup RMA with Ocuk mjust in case but not now.

I tell you something NEC are bloody quick. After having a quick email conversation with Sarah I've been sent an email arranging for my monitor to be exchanged. How quick are they :O

I'm trying to confirm if they are replacing it with a new monitor or just refurbishing. if its the later then I'll send it back to reseller for a refund. I'll keep you informed.

My issue was different from most in that it actually died, (as opposed to just bleed) leaving me without a useable monitor, this is why I got very frustrated at the delay. However, NEC have sent me a brand new loan monitor to use until the issue with the backlight bleed has been resolved, that's actually very good customer service.

Oh...Hi Sarah! :D

Hudson, I would think that they would be brand new monitors seeing as we have been having these problems since day one. I would think that a lot of us including other users on different forums would not be happy getting refurbished ones as NEC knows that we are having probs straight off.

My backlight issue has faded slightly, but is still pretty bad...even after a few days to let it settle.

What is the RMS procedure with NEC? I dont have another monitor i can use at the moment! Do they collect the existing one and then ship another out? or dleived and swap out at the same time?

Also who should i speak to anyone?

Do they guarantee no dead pixels and no backlight bleed on the rma'd monitors?

Hudson the number for Sarah is 08701 201160 and have your serial number to hand.

n30_mkii the procedure for monitor replacement is that they will deliver you one, you then pack the original monitor in the replacement packaging and contact DHL for collection. The procedure for this is explained fully by email which will have the rma procedure attached. I should ring her if your bleed is still there after 4 days, my bottom left bleed is not healing after 4 days and is getting worse, I can see it in normal daylight. You will have to wait for at least a week as they are waiting for NEC Japan to sort all this out. As detailed before they are fully aware of problems and have said not to worry everything will be sorted. Ref no bad pixels and backlight bleed I dont think this will happen now as what I can make out this issue is getting big at NEC from Gibbo's previous posts and that NEC monitor support are now following this and other forum threads about the problem.

Just got my 20WGX2 delivered to my office,
Along with a sata2 250gb cavier harddrive and a lovely sata plextor DVDRW.

I'll report back and let you all know if my monitor is OK, may have to skip lunch and leave early tonight !!!

Same here mate. but seeing as I have no car and it's been delivered to work, I'm gonna have to wait on my dad for a lift home at normal time. Might test it here at work though.

hmm..after reading most of this thread and many reviews on this NEC...I am very tempted to buy this and ditch my 19" TFT. Has anyone else here gone from a 19" TFT to this 20" widescreen and can remommend this as a worthwhile buy? Its a lot to pay for a flat panel monitor when I allreday have one!

All i iknow about this monitor mate is besides the whole screen bleed issue (which is being delt with). this is the greatest thing i have ever viewed in my life. Things are whiter brighter awesome.... Blown away would be the words i could only describe. if you have the cash and are wanting an upgrade this is the daddy.

On a different note i'm playing a guessing game but I think that marv_1 is actually our beloved NEC rep Sarah. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Not the last time ive looked mate, and I certainly havnt grown anything chest wise either. Just getting good info from her yesterday and passing it on to you guys as we are all in the same boat.

If your down Weston H mines a pint of carlsberg and 20 fags mate

I think of the name Sarah and I can only think of a good looking woman. Everyone I know called Sarah is hawt! (many Sarahs)

Anyway, on-topic. Tested mine at work, and all seems good although I couldn't utilise full resolution using a geforce 5500. No aparent dead pixels so far

I can't comment on bleed as I'm working under a skylight and its sunny today, so I will elaborate a little more on that later.

I noticed the front bezel on mine isn't fully flush with the body, I'm talking minor movement here but weather that is a contributing factor to any issues I don't know.

Now I'd really like to see a picture (night time shot & black bg, 100%bright 50%contr ) of one that doesn't have backlight issues from a member from this forum, please ? that would give me some faith to be able to make this purchase.

I wan't one of these for HL2 and photoshop, but I think that noticable backlight bleed or even a single dead pixel is unacceptable.

Regards to the Warranty though,
An onsite supplied by Manufacturer, should that mean I wouldn't pay any shipping if its a bad one ? keep swapping them until happy ?
is there any gamble to this ?

please advise.

I take it the bleed isn't noticable when theres lots on the screen ?

thanks

The bleed is only really noticble in dark conditions ie black screen with white bits. The manufacturer replacement would be (i assume) delivered to do and swapped for the faulty one there with you signing for the swap. Now your new monitor is covered by the same garuntee as your previous one and round we go lol.

The only gamble is you dont like the monitor. But tbh I'm surpirsed that ocuk havent pulled this monitor from sale (if they have then i appologise) but seeing as the problems with nec atm then perhaps a non issue.

Look at the first page for Igors review, this has links to pics of lights off shots with black background. He got the first of these monitors and got a good one, go thru the rest of the thread and look at other pics of other peoples. Another good site to look at for pics of the monitor is here:

Igor is dvl73 on this.

You shouldnt have to pay for postage if it is going direct thru NEC, dont know about keep swapping, hopefully wont have to soon.
