NEC LCD20WGX2 review *** UPDATED 25/02/06 ***

My RMA arrives tomorrow. For those interested, a new batch arrived today, spoke to a different person, Sarah, returned my call and sorted it out straight away, much much better than last weeks nightmare, fingers crossed it's a good one.

I'm looking at this screen to buy

shall I?

The general consensus is that despite a few teething problems with a few units, the product without fault is a fantastic peice of kit. The question you have to ask yourself is will it fullfill what you need it for?

I'm ordering mine tomorrow. Does it come with a DVI cable? Also, what is the preffered method of RMA, OCUK or NEC, in case after 4 or so days my unit has any irregularities.

cheers

why do they let them go out when they have bleed?

whats happens if i oder one and its got bleed?

do i send it basck to ocuk or nec direct?

NEC should look after you just fine and will courier a replacement to your door normally within 24-48 hours so quick and no expense to you. Obviously OcUK would look after you too, so you can choose either way but NEC is recommended especially now they are aware of this issue.

Thanks for the info Gibbo :)

According to another forum, NEC are saying these monitors with the serial no starting 61***** have an issue.

Do OCUK have this batch? Also, do they have a DVI cable supplied?

arcane - what problems did u mention that u had with your monitor?

I had backlight bleed in three corners, but also the monitor died within an hour, went dead and wouldn't come back on.

I would like to add "24-48 hours" IF they have stock, my RMA has taken 12 days so far.

a DVI cable is supplied.

This monitor is really good, apart from the backlight bleed problem. I just spoke with a nice guy at OCUK and I am sure OCuk will sort out NEC and resolve this matter with them.

FYI my monitor has really bad backlight bleed and serial starts 621.

Hope this helps

Cheers guys, that'll save me £20.

I'm going to order the monitor anyway. If it has a problem then its to take up with NEC. Saves OCUK some hassle I suppose :p

The problem is my CRT at home in unbearable to look at for more than an hour. It's slowly dying. I hope they have some working replacements in stock if the worst comes to the worst. I could live with it though, moreso than dead pixels anyway, its just for £400 you expect the best.

Spoke to NEC couple of hours ago as my bleed is getting worse the longer the monitor is on, I can see it in normal light in my room. They have said that they are waiting for descision from their head office concerning replacements for bleed. Mentioned that a couple of people here have had theirs replaced and they said that was before their head office were discussing this. Will wait for call back.

hi spluff, mine starts 621 aswell, backlight all over now. the nearest i can get to black is a deep purple all over! have givern this 4 days now,but the bleed gets worse after a couple of hours.how long can i keep this b4 nec ses your out of warenty? i mean everyone here ses leave it and it will get better!

Hi there

An update - NEC are recognising an issue that affects some of the monitors and will have a fix or will be replacing affected models with new ones but they won't be ready to do so until Wednesday/Thursday this week so give NEC a call then for those who have issues. If NEC give issues take their name and tell them you will be reporting them to Andrew Gibson of Esnet LTD and Adam Gay from MicroP who will then report them to their German office. As NEC Germany are keen to sort this problem out and will provide customers with best levels of customer support but need to find the weaknesses within their company so they can be dealt with appropiately. :)
