NEC LCD20WGX2 review *** UPDATED 25/02/06 ***

I have bleed as seen in the thread. Bad beeld on bottom left and to a lesser extent on the top left. There are also less noticible but just as large patches on the right hand side.

Still, awesome in every other respect!

Quake 4:

Yep good spotting it is steam. Screenshot will not show bleed as you are not taking a shot of the screen itself just ingame. Dup did u test it on black background ie blank screensaver? I take it u did as you can see what bleed is from other users pics

Fired up my "Loan" monitor last night, played a little Quake 4 and some Oblivion, spent most of it OCDing with the OSD :D. I think we should post our settings, It'd be interesting to see how people are running theirs for gaming, surfing etc, try and focus away from the bleed issue which should be sorted this week hopefully. I've not run the optical Spyder over it yet so with some playing I'm at:

RGB 9300k,
ADV On,
DV Mode Movie,
Brightness 50%,
Sharpness 20%

I think it's going to take some time to get used to an LCD, not sure if I prefer the softer CRT image or not, I think the LCD makes the image less natural looking, far harsher.

Let u know later m8 as at work. Finding movie mode good most of the time for oblivion but really dark in dungeons and caves and go to another mode.
R u running it at 1680 1050 and how is yr performance mine isnt to bad at the res but this game really needs tweaking to get good frames.
Whats an optical spyder

Received mine last night bought from OCUK of course, Its pretty cool looking

But ! its got really really bad screen bleed. The left bottom corner is the worst and the top right hand side is also bad. :(

The bleed is very bad when the screen is displaying back, for example the XP loading screen.

I get a little bit of black in the middle of the screen and rest is almost a green rather than a black. It looks really really rubish ! :(
Brightness is set to 50% annd contrast at 80%.

Should I leave it turned on for a while to see if it settles down, or just RMA it straight away ?

Cheers

mate contact NEC. The number is 08701 201160 you'll speak to a very helful lady called sarah who is watching (wave). At the moment NEC are investigating this problem in Japan with the manufacturers. I dont think theres any poin tin getting a replacement at the moment because i'm not sure if NEC know how widespread the problem is.

I have been advised to just leave all my contact details, use th emonitor as i need to and they will be in touch when a decision is made.

OCUK will also RMA it but tbh NEC are going to replace these things and its normally a drop off and return policy.

Yes, running at 1680x1050, plays better now I've used the Frames Ahead to "0" in the CP, dungeons etc are fine though chuggs a bit outside sometimes. An Optical Spyder is a hardware calibrator that you stick to the screen and then run a setup programme, it then makes a new profile for the monitor.

Cheers Arcane, sounds very much like Pantone calibration kit huey. Does it automatically set the monitor then and is it constantly active? Done the 0 in control panel and mine is chugging as well outside a bit. Waiting out for tweek guides to do his one for it. Thinking about getting a 4800x2 as well. Does anybody know if oblivion is also dual core optimised?
Sounds like all Ocuk stock is affected by this and a very few people have got good ones.
Hi Sarah were all waiting for your call :)

No no, that was just me showing off my 1337 gfx in widescreen :D

No point taking a pic, my bleed is just as bad as others.

Just fired up Max for the first time using this monitor. Liek OHEMGEE!

The workspace is just amazing. Beats my 17" CRT at 1280x1024

After a few hours use last night I turned mine off completely including the rocker switch on the rear and the bleed and gone down a little.
