NEC LCD20WGX2 review *** UPDATED 25/02/06 ***

heya guys,

been following this thread as I needed a new monitor

Anyways - took the plung and bought one from OcUK. Upon first inspection this monitor is quite frankly amazing! - I love the reflective screen as it seems to add depth to the picture. Colours are uber duber wicked and the picture literally perfect. CSS is AMAZING! - don't know why I didnt get a widescreen before!

Upon my first use - I didnt notice ANY bleeding (As I looked out for it specifically thanks to this thread). After a couple of days of use - the bleeding is noticeable (only on a black screen - i.e. PC post) in the top left, bottom left and bottom right - none in the top right -wierd! Its mostly noticeable in the bottom left but saying that - only on a pure black screen - everything else is fine.

Was hoping it would all go away but it seems to be getting worse :(

Now I love this monitor, question is - should I be bothered? well - after saving nearly two months (thats the longest I've ever saved for anything!) I want my stuff to be perfecto - hence I think I'll give it two more days before I go complaining back to OcUK and NEC.

PS - Anyone got the contact details for NEC?

thanks.

PS - I've tried all the DV modes and the Advanced DVM stuff to no avail - the bleeding is still there if not more present than before! and My serial Number starts 621xxxxxGB

Yep, this is currently at the top of my list to get but with the backlight issue I'm still playing a waiting game.

mee too...defo

Had problems with veiwsonics before and dont want to go through that RMA stuff again and again. Looks like an awsome monitor....but gona wait for good reports!

Any of you gone to this monitor from a 20" tft running at 1600x1200? I want to get a widescreen but I use CAD and I don't really want to lose 150 vertical pixels. I'm waiting got the 2407 to be released to see what that is like, but then I'd have the problem of being able to run games at 1920x1200... unless it scales pretty well... why is nothing ever simple :|

edit: Also I don't really like the fact that this monitor has no height adjustment, anyone have any problems with that? At its set height it certainly wouldn't comply with vdu guidelines on my desk that's for sure! Can you get other stands I wonder? (/me goes to look).

stands you can pickup from a local pc shop fella ;)

i've gone from a 17" Iiyama TFT (1280x1024) to a 19" CRT (1600x1200) and can honestly say this widescreen ratio rocks Rojin. To be honest this screen seems loads wider than my 19" CRT (which I've still got here) - so what you lose in height pixels wise you make up for in width. Tbh it leaves my CRT standing colour wise aswell!

Yeah just been looking at stands :)

Thing is, physically the screen is the same width as my 20" 4:3 tft now, so I will actually be moving to a smaller screen and I can see myself regretting it... I need to be patient and wait to see what the 2407 is like... sadly I'm not a patient person!!!

Rojin,

What CAD package do you use?

I use CATIA v5 and UG NX2 at work and in my opinion I'd rather lose a little vertical height and gain the width. It allows me to dock the toolbars on one side and maintain more environment space.

Bleed is a pain, but much better than my 2005FPW - however that was taking the mike. It was much worse than the image earlier in this thread, where the screen looks like a St. Georges cross! It was so bad I got bleed in the middle of the screen and was apparent even in lighter backgrounds.

This is nowhere near as bad, but not good enough for over £400. It's the only complaint, cuz the rest is stunning. It's the most CRT like LCD I have ever used.

I'm in housing development so it's more Architectural based CAD, such as AutoCAD, ADT, MicroStation, Speedikon etc. The thing is I will lose desktop real estate as I am running 1600x1200 at the moment and I would be going to 1600x1050... I'm really after a 24" screen thinking logically, but it's so hard to resist... :(

Well it took me a good two weeks to cure the backlight bleed, but now it's perfect :) . Played fear 3-4 hours yesterday, and I couldn't spot a single backlight bleed problem :)

Can someone tell me how good the scaling is on these monitors? I mainly play BF2 and to play it at its native resolution (1680 x 1050) I think it might be too much for my 6800GT's with all the eye candy on. My current rig plays BF2 fine @1024x1280 res no problems, so I was wondering if I was to play BF2 with the NEC at a res slightly less than it's native res that I could scale the picture out to fit all the screen. Would this work ok?

I was just about to post what great job it does doing just that. I tryed playing fear right now, and just after I was done playing I realised I played at 1100xsomething, and not 1680x1050 :D . And to be honest, after changing back, I couldn't quite tell the difference. I actually played at 640x480 a few hours yesterday, but I could obviously see a lot of difference then, but my friend didn't noticed it at all

Well if what you say is true, then hopefully I should not have a problem.

Has anyone else tried the scaling thing?

Image is still great, when I was playing q4 I forgot that I wasnt playing it at 1680 1050 as I was completely knocked over by the vibrancy of the colours and everything is still nicely defined image wise.
