NEC LCD20WGX2 review *** UPDATED 25/02/06 ***

I just went out into town, and got back a second ago and the monitor was in standby and making a really highpitch noise that would drive dogs crazy.

Thought it might have been the speakers or one of my fans being funny, but they were fine, it was coming straight from the monitor :(

Anyone had the same problem?
I've heard reports here & there, but not on the epidemic level. For now, I guess that only solution is that (if it's really annoying) you don't use the standby function and just power off the monitor (via front illuminated button) after each usage session. Not sure that you can fix this by yourself.

I noticed from your previous posts, that you have only 1 year guarantee ?! Why is that ? Are you sure that you didn't purchased the RMA monitor (from your e-tailer) ? How was the monitor packaging ? As you may see, I'm slightly worried that your monitor was already returned.

Anyhow, you may swap the monitor with NEC (if the issue is unbearable) and ask them why is that happening. I think that no one, from the affected users, didn't report back proper explanation.

got mine today. Cant really comment much as I've used it for about 10mins so far, but first impressions are very positive. None of the issues that I despised so much with my previous screen.

I do have a very slight high pitch noise but I am by no means irritated by this as its only noticeable when behind the monitor. Which is'nt something that happens very often.lol

Will try and report later

Do is it onsite exchange that nec do?
Yes. They will send you the new monitor and you can keep & use the old one until replacement arrives. After that, I think that you have 7 days to return the old one. Of course, in case you don't, that will have your CC details anyway ;) You are not paying for any shipping across. From the user reports, it's very straight forward process.

Still got the noise unfortunately.

I have got the number for NEC and i will contact them on monday.

Im pretty sure that i have a 3 Year Warrantee, the retailer told me that i have. The box was in perfect condition, as is the screen itself. It was bought for £260 which i know is a ridiculous price, but it definitely is Brand New.

There is a bit of backlight bleedage in the bottom corner.

Ill see what NEC say about it though.

Ive also contacted the retailer about it, but if NEC can come and pick it up, then id rather do that then have to pay for postage.

hey dude

its very strange that is, let me know how it goes as i also want one of these moitors issue free :)

is there anychance i can get in touch with you via msn or email

thanks

Very happy with mine. Only issue is the slight light bleed bottom right quarter. Cant be bothered complaining just because of that though. Although any light bleed is annoying. Advanced DV mode is a waste of time for me as I find it more of a nuesance than an asset. The obvious changes made my dynamic video mode I just find irritating.

I love the OSD, very good features. I like in particular the expansion modes which help me with certain games...

Overall well chuffed.. Streets ahead of my last widescreen!!

edit: and I love glossy displays. especially with photos. :D

I had the same light bleed but mine went in about 3 weeks of use so hopefully yours will do the same :D

Advanced DV and/or other DV profiles are probably not needed in the static (desktop) usage. Picture is already very well defined, even if you don't use them. On the other hand, games and video tasks are different matter. Usually, it's just personal perceptive preference about the screen configuration and people are usually finding their sweet spot easily.

Expansion modes are very well implemented. Even if you play games stretched on the whole screen (expansion mode: full) picture quality is still very good and most importantly it doesn't suffer very much because of the stretching. In other words, at least what I had the pleasure to see, games are still highly enjoyable. Of course, you have 1:1 pixel mapping (expansion mode: off) as another alternative.

Replaced my 18" IIamya 5year old CRT with it. I'm lovin it. I was abit worried about the move to tft and after reading this thread was even more worried about this tft make, so i thought i'd post my findings

I recieved mine on Friday and I've had no problems at all, No bleedout, no dead pixels, no noise. FYI - My serial start with 631xx

Havn't seen any ghosting, played BF2, Swat4, GRAW all WS :D. Watched several movies on it, Serenity, SW:Ep3 both looked great with nice blacks. Maybe my vision just isn't as picky as some others.

The glass front can be abit of a mirror but it's not a problem for me with my layout. If you do have a strong light source near you, you might need to be careful.

Wife was alittle annoyed when the delivery man turned up, maybe should have told her before :) Also got mine for £320 (vat/del inc) which made me feel even better after hunting websites for ages looking for the cheapest. However i do think it might be a back of a lorry job  but the box was sealed every thing was init.

After months of waiting for this babies teething problems to be resolved, I've just ordered mine - vv excited!

Been using my good old iiyama 17" CRT until TFT's were "good enough" for games looks like that time has come ;)

I just hope I get a good 'en... :D

let us know what you get?

and post some pics if you can, gives us a low down for text and gaming and the reflective screen.

thanks

I'm on number 4 and this one is no better.

Am i being too picky or is this a light bleed.
