Need for Speed Hot Pursuit

This has amazing graphics (except no AA) and beautifully realized world, but the actual driving is boring popamole. No physics, no actual racing, no incar views, no fun.

But damn the world is nice. Exactly what I wanted in HP game. Too bad everything else sucks.

So I caved in and decided to buy the ps3 version. I will play it on ps3 until hopefully the pc version gets patched. Whilst the ps3 version looks bad (at least up close) compared to pc, it certainly runs a lot nicer, and whilst I normally hate 30fps, especially for a racer, this seems to have been very well optimised by criterion to get rid of that lag you can get when running less than 60hz.

The pc patch, at least for me, needs to sort the following:

1. Muted engine sounds
2. Big fps drops (triple buffering doesn't solve). I think it's an issue with ati cards, although could be I'm CPU limited as dropping resolution makes no difference.
3. Missing rain and snow effects

Hope to god criterion fix it on pc because even without AA it looks much better and plays better at 60fps than console.

Dirty dog - I notice u have an nvidia card, what res are u running and what are fps like mate ? Do u getting any fps drops or is it generally stable ?

1680x1050. FPS is usually 60 but does drop when it gets busy, say lots of cars and rain on screen at once but most of the time it is smooth. Both my CPU and GPU are a few years old so the game isn't terribly demanding. The framerate has not adversely affected the playability of the game. I would hate to play it at 30fps, this type of very quick racer which demands split second timing needs a high framerate IMO.

Cheers, I reckon it might be CPU limits I am struggling with as I'm dual core and you have a quad. I get average of say 50fps at 1680x1050 but sometimes drops to 20fps, so it's either an ati issue or I'm CPU bound :(

The reason why I think it might also be an ATI issue is that the eurogamer comparison article says that a dual core with an 8800gt is enough to run 1920x1080 @ 60fps. So perhaps nvidia cards are better in this game.

I don't see how you can play this game properly other than with a pad - I don't see a wheel working well. Just use a pad and play in 3rd person view á la Burnout/OutRun/Ridge Racer. (I'm speaking as someone who plays all the other NFS games I own from the bonnet view - but this game you need the external view.)

yea the bonnet view is far to low down its hard to see traffic and even when to brake for corners

I dunno man. It just does not feel like racing cars to me. It feels like there is no skill involved in this game, and the driving itself...well I feel like I could be driving hovercrafts from wipeout and it would feel the same. Shift spoiled me I guess.

Oh dear, a sim snob. NO SKILL IN ANYTHING BUT SIMS! Ever played trackmania? Pure arcade and probably the most skilfull racing game out there.

Absolutely loving this, single player is ok but online is awesome, put it on at 7 last night and two hours later I had to force myself to turn it off. It runs perfectly too and the menu system is great, its a rock solid game in that respect.

Couple of complaints, all the cars seem pretty much the same in their groups in terms of handling so getting a new car is irritating as it unlocks new car after nearly every race and you cant skip it, the sound effects are shockingly bad the music you can hardly hear and the sirens get a bit irritating but other than that it is really good fun, especially online

This is an arcade game, there is no realism at all here, if you want a sim get something else, if you want to chase or be chased with weapons etc then this is a good laugh, anyone moaning about it is a bit dumb TBH as it does exactly what it says on the tin

The car unlock screens and 'promotion' screens are a bit annoying yeah, I've played about 10 hours now and still get them regularly after matches. Normally I would just button press straight through those but you can't here. At least once everything is unlocked and I am level 20 that won't happen any more!

The game is totally addictive, whether you win or lose just playing it feels brilliant.

I got the game but am experiencing the well documented (in EA forums) quad core bug.... But dirtydog i see your playing it on the q6600, your one of the lucky few then i would say because it crashes on my q6600.

Well back to TDU then.
