Need for Speed: Shift 2: Unleashed

There we go! Enjoy! I know its a long one but It took all my concentration to not crash!

Unfortunalty its not HD, I recorded it at 960x540 but youtube seems to have capped it to 480

Seems much darker than I remember too

7.24 is a bit.. slow.. i managed 7.30 in the e92 with some tuning that got it to 500bhp.. :o i keep sliding out of the track with the MP4-12C tho hard to keep it in line on the corners..

Cough Cough! There is more in that radical, I just couldn't get a perfect lap in!

Nice :)

I doubt I'll beat that, as I was at my limit yesterday getting the time I did.

Just spotted this over at NoGrip :

Good news from Ian Bell (SMS) on GT Planet: " Quick post to say that we've removed the lag internally (well, down to hardware limits) and we're have a blast in testing with the wheels here. Some 'late in the day' asynchronous changes with a view to optimization put things out of kilter a touch. The changes mean that the input is now processed very early on in the frame and filtered through to the physics as quickly as possible.

Big thanks to gtplanet forums and members for the feedback. We do read as much as we can. "

Good news I guess, although how they couldn't have informed people about the lag prior to release is a mystery. Bit of a body-swerve imho but I'll wait and see what the patch does.

The video being darker than you remember will be down to the compression codec you used afaik.

Nice vid. You'll easily beat your time I imagine, as I got the impression from your driving that you weren't used to the layout of the track yet.

Interesting, I'm right in saying there isn't any patches released yet is there? Only the 3rd party mods!

Yes. Only mods so far.

I just can't believe for 1 second that they never noticed the lag during development, as it's pretty obvious, unless they just used only gamepads :)

And not informing potential customers, or not putting out a press release / update notice on the day of release acknowledging the issue is bad pr in my eyes.

At least they're attempting to fix it.

Yeah I'm sure I will, maybe on a TT, It didn't help me that I had a Zonda breathing down my neck the whole time. Kept putting me off looking in the mirrors! hehe

I am reasonably familiar with the track but each game is different and its a learning curve every time, there are sections that I know well and sections that I don't and tend to lift of the throttle when it wasn't necessary and that's where I loose a lot of time.

As a big fan of Race07 and GTR Evolution, would the general opinion be that this would be enjoyable for me, although tbh if it's very arcadey then I will give it a miss.

I have said this a few times now and being a Sim Fan myself I was skeptical but I think it has real potential, when set up right which a wheel and using elite mode its great. It all depends on how fussy you are about sims.

The handling is different, but again when set up right it doesn't feel arcade to me, I hate arcade racing games generally.

Hope this helps a little, shame there is no demo.

It's definately not arcadey, although it's not quite a 'full sim' like GTR Evo, rFactor, iRacing, etc...

Atm the steering has a slight input lag on it, which can make counter-steering a challange at times, although you do get used to it.
^^
The devs have said today that they are aware of this & are working to fix it, so that issue could be a thing of the past.

Some cars feel much better to drive than others, but that's a personal preference thing.

Pretty much all cars need to have their setup tweaked to get rid of the mushy feeling to their handling.

As someone suggested earlier, even just setting the suspension / dampers to their middle values make a big difference, so you don't need to get too technical with the setups to notice the change it makes.

Lastly, some of the tracks have been ' tweaked ' to make racing easier on them. Bathurst is way too wide for an example.

Taking all that into account, it's still a lot of fun to drive. If you find a car you enjoy the handling of, then Autolog means you'll never be done trying to beat someone's laptime on your favourite track :)

edit - just be aware that once you get used to the immersion of the cockpit view with realtime self-shadowing, going back to GMotor based titles might be hard due to feeling quite sterile in comparison.

aye the only real life vs shift video ive seen so far is this one.

its a bit out of sync though and gets more so as the video progresses

Well said, especially that last comment, the lighting, especially at night is immense. You can see the shadow of your own car on the track in front of you when car headlights are behind, simply amazing

I really hope someone figures out how to make Bathurst narrow again, its so bad the way it is now
