Need for Speed: Shift 2: Unleashed

you wont get a GOTY last time shift didnt get any official dlc on the pc but the moldding community ported it across from the xbox360

I'm definitely tempted to get this while its on offer at the EA store but I've read about problems re-downloading etc after a reinstall or component upgrade - can anyone tell me how it works with the EA downloader??

Thanks......

StevieP

A lot of games from the EA store have activation limits, and changing a key piece of hardware, such as the cpu, will be seen as a new system by the DRM. Stupid, but if you remember to de-authorise before changing components you'll be fine

inside the games folder is a program called "activation" when you run it you get this screen
unled1wx.jpg

5 licenses avilable but you can deauthorise to get the license back

I was interested in this but seeing DLC less than a month after release takes the ****.
I'll wait for the GOTY (full release).

tbh with EA store at 1/2 price you could get this and the dlc (which isn't even out yet :)) at a good price. I wouldn't concern yourself with the dlc it's an awesome game

The game is constantly crashing for me, it's crashed 16 times since 14th april. The error message points to the SHIFT2U.exe (see below). I put the SHIFT2U.exe into W7 compatibility mode tonight, which has solved my game not loading first time. It now loads first time.

It didn't fix the crashing though. Anyone know why it keeps freezing on screen then crashing to windows? Sometimes it happens after an hour or two, and sometimes, like just now, after 10 minutes. Exception Code:c0000005 comes up on all my error logs.

It could be a heat issue but usually that would lock your pc up as well. Could be worth posting on the EA forums and maybe the thread we posted on the previous page which the SMS guys were getting involved in.

I've only had one crash and that was caused by clicking buttons in the garage which is a known bug and fixed in next patch

might be one of your mods
i started to get a crashing issue and i fixed it by removing all my mods and only using juls minimod after.

A preliminary patch log has been posted over at NoGrip :

Bugs fixed in PS3/360 DLC title update (even though this a PC patch update thread )

(this is unofficial and there's probably a few things I missed - the PC patch obviously includes all these fixes)

- Input processing, tweaked default wheel settings and fixed force muting problem. Addresses wheel lag/feel issues. (somewhat understated - a large code change to reduce latency is included improve both input and wheel animation delay)
- Fix Upgrade / garage screen crash / hang.
- Fix Logitech FFB.
- Fix tech hang on vehicle selection if own loaner car and it's upgraded it past initial class.
- Fix occasional logic flaw for redeeming voucher codes.
- Fix restarting or quitting a race while slow motion is active in replay
- Improved validation of lap times, scores and speeds:
- Fix don't report unrealistic records to stat servers.
- Fix don't store unrealistic records to profile if playing online.
- Fix : Reset unrealistic stats stored in the profile after successful signin.
- Fix : All constants controlling record validation can be overridden from server-side config.
- Fix drift scores above 3600 not appearing in Records.
- Fix : Don't send lap times in game reports when playing drift (fixes issue with Nevada Circle Night track sharing leaderboard id with Asia Drag Strip)

Downside is the MLAA from Intel didn't make it into this patch :

" Unfortunately the AA 'fix' didn't make it into the patch, because the MLAA code from Intel had to be reviewed by their legal dept and that took some time - they were providing this code a full month ahead of it's Intel website release date, so it was just tight timing. "

Well, it was my 4870 that had died :(
That would account for the crashing I guess.

I bought a new psu today and a GT 430. Wasted £60 on the psu, but at least it's a backup now. Same with Gt 430, £70. It's good for backup though, like now. Don't think I'll be able to play shift 2 in a higher res than about 1280 x 1024, I'll test it shortly. Gonna have to buy a good GFX card now. Well, at least my cpu or motherboard isn't broken, which was my biggest worry.:)

Goddamnit, still crashing, same error code.

Two things RE this game which I am loving but...

I get a lock up for a few seconds which is totally random, screen locks up, wait a sec and it starts going again, no frame rate issues

The second is totally spoiling the game and driving me nuts, online there is a major issue with people ramming you from behind, the person that hits you from behind has no issue and carries on with a serious lack of skill and you end up spinning and having to play catch up, totally ruining the online experiance

There's an issue apparently with collision detection when racing online, which might be partly responisble.

Although to be honest, in every online racer I've played you will always get shunted from behind at some point.

Yeah I understand if its by accident but people do it on purpose and its every race because the people that do it know its an easy way to pass because they literally carry on in a straight line and you spin out

I really don't understand how they've managed to make it look worse than the first one, and yet somehow halved the framerate! Admittedly I've only got a 4870 1 gig graphics card at the moment, but the first one ran at a consistent 50-60fps and looked far better

you need to force AA are it does look crap i dont know how you do it on ATI cards you will need to google, the ingame AA is rubbish

The fps is lower because Shift 2 uses a deferred renderer, which means very nice night lighting at the expense of a lower fps during the day afaik :

A future patch will include cpu-based MLAA that should be worth using if you have a quad core or above.

Morphological aa is the best bet for ATi 5xxx & 6xxx cards, although it doesn't look that much different from the in-game aa and still causes the same fps drop.

Atm Nvidia cards are able to force aa much better & effectively than ATi.

That's poor. You'd like to think they'd patch in a penalty for the offending driver, but I doubt it.

Maybe everyone here will get round to organising an online race at some point.

At least that way you'll get to vent any anger at someone on here :)

Fully agree! I dont know why every online racer doesnt have a penalty system for bad driving - in GT5 on the PS3 there is a nice facility where it limits your speed for a short period if you do something naughty!
