Need for Speed: Shift 2: Unleashed

I get the occasional crash as well. I'll take a note of the error to see if it's the same.

Hopefully the patch will fix it.

Moody, apparently the fix is to turn off DEP (data execution prevention) so I've turned mine off just for shift 2, and wait to see if it crashes again or not.

I'll quote from where I found the fix for someone else with the same exception code c0000005:
"The fix is rather simple, just turn of the Data Execution Prevention, or add the shift2u.exe as a exclusion the game should then run smoothly."

Changing Data Execution Prevention (DEP) settings in Windows 7

Nice find.

If it works it might be worth posting it in the devs' thread at NoGrip so they are aware of this ( if they aren't already that is )

I've gone back to playing race 07/gtr evolution...it may not look as good but the cars handle way better without any messing about with the settings.

By the way, I changed my GPU driver and it asked me to re-authorise

Same with me the other night. New graphics card and I was asked to activate the key. Very odd that a new card should affect authorisation.

edit: I'll be activating again on tuesday, I just ordered an HD5850 from OCuK. :p

Patch does nothing to make the handling with a G27 any better at all.

How can the same people that made GTR make a game that makes it impossible to drive in a straight line?

The only thing that has been improved is the frame rates.

Still no proper SLI support. One card runs at full speed and 99% GPU usage, the other doesn't even clock up to full speed and has about 20% GPU usage.

Uninstalled.

Shift apparently still " needs an updated Driver or SLI patch from NVIDIA (Current Divers have Single GPU mode set as default in SLI profile for Shift 2) "

For people running SLI, this fix was just posted by Griff until Nvidia fix it :

If you have NV Inspector change the SLI mode for Shift 2 to AFR2. Alternatively (although I haven't tested this with a patched retail copy) - renaming shift2u.exe to AFR-FriendlyD3D.exe should fix both SLI/Crossfire scaling while you wait for driver updates, once you've installed the patch.

The game runs at decent frame rates now on one card.

But

It still doesn't excuse the fact that the game is still unplayable with a G27 on default settings.

I haven't tried the patch yet, as my dfp wheel is still giving me issues, but I possibly wouldn't have played the standard game much without using v0.3 of Juls minimod & ffb settings.

Imho the cars react better with it installed. And once you get used to the handling & tweak the soft car setups, you can get some very enjoyable racing out of it thanks to the AI.

a tip from the dev..

people are reporting this as working/improving the game/reducing/removing the strutter..

what are the best settings for the g27?

There aren't any.

If you really fanny around, you can get an almost playable game with the slower cars. But when the game steers by pivoting the car around it's centre, the faster cars become very hard to control.

If you play for long enough you can sort of get used to it, but it's really no great improvement over the first game.

I tried using a PS3 controller on it, massive amount of lag. I was having to guess a couple of seconds before how hard I would need to turn. Wonder if the patch will help ..

I found this game pretty difficult - using an xbox 360 controller. To the point that I am yet to win a race!

I am normally fairly decent a driving games, so i think that this is because i turned off most of the assists (steering assist, breaking assist etc)

What are the reccomened settings to keep when using gamepad?

The settings I have which I use for playing with the 360 Controller are:

Difficulty Medium
Handling Mode Normal
Steering Assist No
Braking Assist No
ABS Brakes Yes
Traction Control Low
Stability Control Yes
Damage Visual Only
Best Line Yes

I am not the greatest of online racers and Grid I struggled to not crash but with Shift 2 i'm feeling like it is quite a good racing sim and am winning most of the career races so far

Happy to be advised if any of the above should be reduced :)
