Officially you need the CD in the drive, so yes.
I use an alternate exe for patch 1.02. I hate CD in drive too.

right guys g27 is bolted down and ready to rock, has anyone got a profile or such that i'v heard mentioned for the g27 or advice setting it up?

Nice one Ultim8. Welcome to OCuk NFS Shift Time Attack Championship :)

I think Danswan uses a G25 so he may be able to help you with settings. For my wheel, I use no deadzones, 50% everything else, and force feedback and turning lock is to my liking. You could try similar settings and see how you get on. My wheel is not a logitech, it's a thrustmaster, but I think they all work pretty much on a similar basis.

Download this file too:

" Save Game File for those that need it, courtesy of Wedge.
Instructions: Download, unzip, rename the folder & the file (the Folder & File must have the same 'Name' BTW), copy it to "C:\Users\yourname\Documents\NFS SHIFT" folder "

thanks and at the moment nothing on the wheel works no steering, accelerator, brake....nothing :( so im guessing i need to set it up first but the in game control mapping looks like it doesnt support a wheel....obviously it does but where

Ultim8 i searched hard for good logitech profiler settings and these are the ones i found that are the best for me, try them and see what's what, you need to set a profile up for SHIFT before you do the settings in SHIFT ...

k im doing the wheel settings in the profiler but there is no clutch option even though the pic shows the g27 with the clutch there is no tab/button for the clutch....any ideas?

are you on 64bit W7?

i had trouble getting the profiler installed correctly with the supplied disk, so downloaded the latest version from wingmanteam.com, some good information on there about setting up the profiler aswell...

Welcome Ultim8, I seem to remember having similar issues setting up my G25, bear with it. I'm not at my gaming PC now but here's my in-game settings which I have posted earlier - good luck

Glad to see my time is still holding up, hoping to still be in the mix on Friday when I have another chance to play!

1.28.2 :d love it lol but the steering feels very stiff is there a way to lighten it a bit....a power steering button perhaps lol

You can lower the force feedback settings ingame - I have the Logitech profiler for my G25 set up as below:

And as per my settings posted above the FF ingame is set to 7. Not sure how that translates to the G27 but I would imagine it would be similar. Don't go too low though, one of the great things about a decent wheel is you get information such as the wheel going loose when you start to skid etc.
