Need for Speed Shift - Time Trial Championship ** Season 3 ** (Multiplatform)

You're right dan about the FF, but I found that moving down from 7 to 4 still allows me to feel everything, but it's a bit easier to control the wheel now, and my hand doesn't ache as much :p

Boy oh boy, I haven't been able to touch the 15's again since my last time, until just now. Took some work, lol.

Had another quick go this morning, as NIKAZ says 14's are possible but hard, for now this is slightly quicker:

Looking forward to a good few hours trying to break 1:15 tonight!

Dan and nikaz, after sector 2, are you braking at the final two left turns before the right turn on the leg home? I've tried braking and not braking, and so far my best times have been with short braking. But it would seem to make sense not to brake as long as the racing line is judged accurately. Just wondering if you got your best times by not braking.

It depends on the line I have but usually the first of those two turns I drop to third & turn in hard, the second I just cover the brakes whilst dropping to second. If it helps split times are low 19's for sector 1 & mid 41's for sector two. A little quicker:

Hi Ultim8,
Glad you're enjoying it, it is a truly excellent sim game once you get the controls sorted to your liking.
Just want to check a few things with if I may to help get to grips with this game.

1. What 'Driving Model' are you using 'Normal', 'Experienced' or 'Pro'? Start with normal to begin. It offers slightly more grip than experienced. Pro is for Wheel & Pedal users only & therefore offers the most realistic handling & minimal grip when compared to Normal & Experienced modes.

2. Turn OFF ALL aids. Braking, Traction Control & Stability Control. If you must use Traction Control until you're more accustomed, set it to 'Low'. Using these aids i.e. ON will seriously slow you down.

Racing
3. Braking - Brake in a straight line & remember to come off the brakes as you begin your turn-in. On most of the tracks the Guide line (or racing line) gives a false impression as where to brake. You can brake well into the Red zone, in some cases about 2 or 3 car lengths.

4. Cornering (Steering) - Try not to shear at the wheel, hold a steady steering position to maintain the line for the corner ONLY applying the GAS whilst straightening up, when you know you won't have to correct the car with more steering input.

5. Cornering (Apex) - I know it's a given, but try not stray to far from the apex of corners. Bear in mind some cars don't like riding too much curb.

6. Cornering (Feathering) - Now this is probably the hardest skill to learn even at a relatively low level, especially in powerful Rear Wheel Drive cars not so much in Front Wheel Drive. Basically you can control/balance the car around a curve by constantly feathering the throttle with minute inputs/outputs of the throttle whilst maintaining momentum & med to high revs (no need to drop a gear). For example, on this weeks combo the last right curve, to maintain good momentum & importantly good exit speed you need to balance the car in 2nd gear initially feathering the throttle so you can change up to third gear early at peak revs.

7. Gears - Use Manual gears. It offers so much more control than auto.

Anything else you want to ask just fire away. Only too glad to help

Thanks Nikaz great guide. I am using wedges profile so i think its on pro at the moment so i'll knock it down to normal to get a better learning curve and im using the G27 and the flappy paddles for gear changes as i cant get used to the independant gear stick at the moment.

And do you use your gears to slow down where possible?

Yeah, I use the paddles, I don't bother with the gearstick on my right. I also use normal car model. Yes, you can change down to lower gears to slow the car even before braking, and it also helps save time when you're trying to reduce a laptime by a second or two, or 10ths or 100ths of a second. Sometimes it works very well, and other times it's better or easier to time the gear changes just as or after you start braking, you'll have to experiment with that and see what works best.
