^ Need for Speed Shift ^

I played on Windows 7 x64 - I play max settings for both games and grid looks less realistic than Shift, easily.

Compare any GRID screens online with my Shift screens or anyone else's and you'll see.

Looks the same on my machine as on yours then, so we'll just have to agree to differ as I think the Shift screens look very 'PC sim' like, and I don't mean that in a complimentary way.

on my 8800gt i've found better performance dropping the res down to 1280x720. high everything with motion blur off and 4xAA 8xAS. that gives a good 50-70fps. monitor expands to this res very nicely i actually could'nt tell the difference barely between that and 1680, just much better performance.

Yeah I did the same in the end, I know my card lacks the bandwidth for 1680x1050 in some games and this is obviously one of them. (If the graphics were all that though, it would be more understandable - but they're not.)

Sim games usually are the more realistic "looking" games so how Grid looks more real to you is a mystery!

Shift's colour pallette is much more natural and HDR less intrusive. This is why those guys on another site modded Grid with DX10 and removed the waxy look giving it a more natural look.

Been playing this more as I've been really bored. I have a bit of a habit of losing my temper with games that will not behave nicely and I don't think I've used this much obscene language at a game since Mirror's Edge (another EA Games production. Coincidence?). Drift I've given up on, there's about 0.5s to a whole second delay from pressing a key and it actually registering. And ofcourse as soon as you accelerate, the car does a spin out.

Up to 480 odd stars, 5 epic badges and driver level 24, but for the likes of me I cannot podium finnish the Spa GP endurance event in Tier 3. I've tried doing it with a fully upgraded Nisan GT-R V-Spec, A works converted GT-R, A works converted Lamborghini Murciélago, Works converted Viper SRT10, Works converted Evo X, fully upgraded Evo IX, Works converted Nisan 370Z and a works converted Corvette Z06. Closest I can get is 1 minute behind the leader. They take every corner perfectly, don't screw up once, and speed off quicker than the Road Runner :(. Any one got any sugestions of a car to try?

Not even going to bother with the NFS World Tour yet. Tried it about 20 times in a row and I always get cluster ****ed on the first lap.

Do you mind telling me what sensitivity etc settings you have for your wheel etc.. I just end up drifting around every corner :p - your video makes it look like a sim

edit: dw I just looked back a few pages :D

that movie i was running the steering sensitivity at 28 and speed steering
sensitivity at 32. with my g25 at 320degrees on the control panel, and using
the custom wheel xml file by Holger from nogrip thread here,

PC sim games usually look cheap and fake to me and this is no exception. Probably because this was made by the same people who made some of those other games.

Is there a specific setting with the controls to get rid off the oversteer apart from lowering sensitivity to 12%?

Or is it the fact I have a crappy pad that is more digital than analogue?

The 'pointless' patch is probably mainly to add the mouse support ASAP, as it's a huge pain in the backside (even though I've sort of got used to it). I suspect there will be more to come within a few weeks, as the pC version was the one which got squeezed up against the deadline.

I haven't looked at the patch yet, but this morning I upgraded my Cayman S to Tier 3 and found it had become a very enjoyable ride indeed. I know this sim (and I think it is a sim in game's clothing) is looked down upon from a great height by hardcore simmers, but I haven't had this much immersive fun in a title -- GTR2, LFS, iRacing, GPL, Evo, whatever -- for a long time.

Well ive got mine set at a playable rate now, on a single 4850,(not tried this setup in crossfire yet) min in game is around 20fps, highest in game 30's fps, but seems playable now, it seems the more options turned off in options/gameplay/driving and changing control settings seems to help the frame rate to some extent.

i have an idea all the assist options are hitting the cpu hard which is trying its best to do the Phsyx thingy and it cant cope with both very well

this is still not perfect handling with my xbox 360 pad but its better than what it was

**Pics**

Thanks for sharing those handling settings, the game is now playable on my 360 pad :)

Yay i'm back.

Well i've bought this last Friday and it's still crashing/freezing every now and again on the loading screens. After tinkering with some settings, it works for an hour or so then locks up again on another loading screen.

It's a pretty buggy game which LOADS of people are having chew with so I won't be best pleased if they don't get sorted after myself AND loads of other people have shelled out money for.

Found it really arcadey on the default settings but am using the G25 setting posted a few pages back and it's totally transformed the game, especially with all the assists off :D It really is a lot more realistic.

So i'm 50/50. I'm enjoying the game when it works but when it doesn't, it seriously ****es me off.

Now i have my 360 pad partially working(Still a bit twitchy but i just cant be bothered to spend ages setting it up) it aint a bad game, brakes still seem a bit tempramental though

I read somewhere (that i forgot now :p), that if you update to the latest PhysX drivers, it plays better on ATi cards, so ive done that, and it does seem better. :)
