^ Need for Speed Shift ^

ha, it's true... i do suck. :D

but even so, i really don't expect to be getting rammed off the road when all i'm doing is trying to overtake. if i ever try and nudge them, it's me who goes flying off.

Join the club :(

My friend was asking what it is like on PC, he's playing it on the PS3. He was shocked at how relentless the AI is on the PC version, the unresponcive controls and that ramming the other cars always results in you being taken out forcing you to restart.

I'm miles ahead of him so that put a smile on my face :D

i just tried the endurance run at spa with a works murcielago and even going full pelt down the straights, you can see people in front of you pulling away because the gap on the timer is increasing - and they're not even on a straight like i am. that can't be right. :/

Does it still have that "catch up" thing NFS games used to have or was that ditched eons ago? lol

Edit - I read your post wrong marc...

Well i got it yesterday, playing it with the latest drivers off the NV webby, 192 something iiic, are they the best drivers for it?

Mine did stutter for a bit, but restarting the game fixed it. :)

Still toying with the idea of getting the G25 and chopping in the DFGT..... and i now want a 24" monitor to replace my 22" lol. :D

its ATI related, ATI have said its not there fault, its EA's game engine

ATI has raised concerns to the developer regarding how the game utilises ATI hardware, and ATI is waiting for the developer to fix these issues. According to this it is not a driver issue, but an issue with the NFS:Shift's game engine. Maybe a driver hotfix can help patch things up, but unless the developer corrects their code for the ATI hardware we are not going to see much of a difference.

I haven't noticed any performance issues, it runs well >40fps at 1920*1200 4xAA maxed out on my [email protected] and GTX280

Or is it ATI related?

Apparently there are ATI specific issues. Although it doesn't run particularly well on my machine with an nvidia card, which although modest is still probably as good as a lot of people have. It does seem excessively demanding to me.

Even when the FPS is reasonable, in the 30-60 range, it doesn't seem smooth, there are the occasional pauses or hitches. GRID is as smooth as butter on the other hand.

How does the handling compare with Grid? I really enjoyed Grid but the cars felt incredibly floaty even with a G25. Is Shift better in that respect?

the right car set up correctly will under steer on the way in and then over steer on way out... with the G25 you get a good feel for it. The physics are rather good, hills and camber of the track, hitting an apex too much will bounce you over the track... Its quite good, but i wouldn't say its a proper simulator. Worth £25 though.

Its been a while since i played GRID so im finding it hard to remember how it was and directly compare them.

grid was just wrong with 100mph around corners that should only be 40mph, very silly feel like a dodgem car floating on magnets, weird. shift feels a lot better, to me it's like a gtr2 physics with a better tyre model so it's easier to drive. shift will sit next to my copy of gtr2 on the dvd shelf :) grid is next to street fighter 4.

tottaly agree, I love grid to bits but its very arcadey compared to shift. Now ive got used to the controls, its far more rewarding and fun getting faster and faster laptimes.

got it friday played a hour on it , seemed like a alright game but not played it since then, taking all assists off made it feel 100x's better.....

on other hand batman as been taking my time up when i aint had anything to do....so shift can wait a few more weeks :)
