^ Need for Speed Shift ^

'Steering Dead Zone-15%
Accel Dead Zone-10%
Brake Dead Zone-10%
Steering sensitivity-5%
Acell Sensitivity -5%
Brake sensitivity-5%
Speed steering Sensitivity 100% '

This works a treat

It really really doesn't.

What other decent games are you comparing to, because the handling in shift is just weird regardless of how you set up the controls.

Well I'm not comparing it too anything - I just thought it made a big difference.... did you do the 2nd fix as well?

I don't get why this game doesn't change the icons to 360 buttons when your using the pad like Burnout does. Makes it really annoying coming back to the keyboard if I want to do something. Also I swear the camera angle zoom with the triggers is bust.

Oh and I can't drift. I have all the help stuff off though which could be why.

Well I can't because i've got the demo - i'm not wasting £25 on it in the state its currently in. If I see it for £15-£20 i'll consider it but to be honest, the handling in the demo really hasn't impressed me.

Like I said before, the cars act as if they are pivoting round a point in the middle - the front doesn't turn and get followed, the front twists one way and the back shunts out the other way. No matter how much you adjust dead zones and tuning setups that isn't going to get fixed.

NightSt@lk3r is right, once you learn to drive and tweak the handling in setup the cars drive great, sure theres more oversteer in this game but if you understand that you just compensate by altering your driving style.. i treat the handling like GTr 2 with no assists, sure its nasty and unforgiving but once you semi-master it the experience is great. The games only 2 days old so no doubt any compatibility or controller problems will get attention in the form of patches.

Its the same thing that happened when GRID came out, people just wouldnt accept that others enjoyed it. We know theres rFactor <quality game> and we know if we have more money than sense £120 to drive a few cars around a few tracks in iRacing is probably the place to be.

Shift, has tons to offer with loads of tracks and plenty of cars to work towards and customise. Graphically its stunning in places and the crash effects depending on the speed are a superb touch. Never thought i'd say it but im actually enjoying the whoring of 'stars', going back over races ive not got the max from really adds to the replayability.

The thing is though, GTR 2 with no assists is hard and unforgiving in a realistic way, and mastering it is a joy. In Shift you are fighting against an inherently flawed physics model, sure you can tweak control settings and car setups but that doesn't fix the broken physics model. You have to un-learn everything you know about how real cars handle and behave.

Exactly, that's why it irritates me slightly, it's just nothing like a real car, despite them claiming a realistic physics model. Normally, this would be fine if it was arcade handling, but it's not, it has a steep learning curve that makes just picking it up and playing it from any other arcade racing game a total chore.

Indeed. Steep learning curves are fine in actual realistic sims, but this is far from realistic. In Shift you are learning to fight the dire physics, not learning to control cars in a realistic manner.

So what times are we doing then around brands hatch gp? i just did a 1:33.2 in a standard Nissan GT-R R35 and my best is a 1:27 with my modified Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

Can't capture a snap of it in-game, just gives me my desktop with a black square. Just applied the driving changes above.
Before - 1:31.56
After - 1:26.40
Works Murciélago

The sensitivity settings improved the handling quite a bit i think. Had to kind of re-learn the re-learing the way to drive. ;)
This is with a keyboard mind you :)

next laptime? :D:D:D

I find Shift a realistic driving experience.
I am playing on 360 pad default settings.
I am finding the overall gameplay better much then Grid and feel it looks better, i.e. as a rendered representation of racing. (Love the look of when you crash into tyres for one thing.)
I prefer the handling and I also much prefer the difficulty curve. This is holding my attention brilliantly, enjoying it more than Grid, Burnout Paradise and although GTR2 is slightly more realistic handling in some ways, I find Need for Speed Shift more realistic in different handling/feel areas and overall the more enjoyable experience. :)

Is it possible to disable the cinematics at the start of each race? It's incredibly annoying watching the same thing before each race during a long sitting.

You can skip them by pressing the Return key, I think. either that or the Space Bar :)

LOL, have you ever actually driven a real car?
