Need For Speed Shift

Well I offered to help, was all, to try and determine what the main culprit in the handling is for some. I suggested you try the TT as it certainly isnt a bad handling car and the track its on is quite technical.

Dont see the need for what seems the thread turning into a hostile attitude towards the game or that its okay for some to call it crap and take no-one elses opinions onboard.

People keep relating it to FM3 or they cant wait for FM3 to come. Why the hell did you buy this then and if your just persistant on it being crap then well Id recommend you get rid of it and play the FM3 demo to your hearts content.

FM3 has better handling and better in many ways yes, but this to me is still a fun and challenging game.

get to grips with controls?, just left on default used the controller and completed it in 2 days. i've never had to get to grips with a driving game, lol

Why the hell did you buy this then

Because it was meant to be good? Can't we buy more than one game if we are looking forward to Forza or something?

You moan at people criticising Shift, but you're equally as defensive of the game, like you are somehow correct. This is a discussion thread, and we are discussing what we don't like.

Actually yes it is a discussion thread so perhaps you should take on board what others are commenting too. Ive offered to help understand why/how some are loving it and others are the opposite. Im not the one moaning though or trying to compare it to an unreleased game yet.

Err, how do you know I haven't tried changing the controls, adjusting settings, watching videos

I have taken on-board every piece of advice given in this thread - the game is still poor IMO. No amount of setup adjusting, or playing with a pad/wheel improves it to the point where it's enjoyable. The fact that I have other issues with the game apart from the handling doesn't help either. I'm just miffed that a game which looked awesome in the previews has turned out for me, and others, to be a complete turkey.

And for the record, I haven't compared it to Forza 3 at any point. I've merely stated that I look forward to the demo because it will give me something to play.

Hmm… I’ve been playing this game for a few days now, and I’ve seen not only comparisons for a yet un-released title – Forza 3, but also to Dirt 2.

Comparing the game to a yet un-released title or a Rally / Cross Country style game is a little silly. But I can honestly see why this is happening. The game is flawed, but only as the game has somehow managed to find that its not really in a field of its own. Its not going to be as popular is GT 5 Prologue or Forza 2, or have the instant appeal of Dirt, Grid or Dirt 2.Simply as this is a game where the more you put into it, the better it becomes. All the other titles are a little bit more ‘pick up and go’ type games, NFS shift has a very twitchy handling model, where you really do need to sit and tweak for an hour or so before it become much more playable and enjoyable.

Dirt 2 is a different type of game, I own them both, NFS shift and Dirt 2. Both IMO are equally good at what they set out to do. One is very much a track game, the other is more off road and they both offer some good gameplay, NFS shift however is flawed though as mentioned. The handling is too twitchy and frustrating…

I found this out whilst doing a NFS Shift battle against an M3 and RS4. The RS4 was all over the track, tweaking the settings to something more comfortable to me resulted in the game calming down and becoming very enjoyable. Once you reach the higher tiers the game comes into an experience more like Forza. And for PS3 owners, this is about as close to Forza you’ll get not including GT5.

The game has gorgeous engine and track sound, graphics are excellent and overall it’s a decent game. But the music is dreadful and not including full crash dynamics in the PS3 is in-excusable.

Dirt 2 is better at telling a story, and the background music is better but the racing on both NFS shift and Dirt are about as good as you’ll get on PS3 if you want both Rally /off road cross county and track racing….. Take them both for what they are… This is all based on PS3, as I do not own an Xbox360 to compare…

But when you can pick up other racing games and just play it, get to this and can't doesn't that say that the game is a bit crap?

Not at all...it just means that (shock horror) people have to sit and learn/get used to the handling before they get the most out of the game.

I'm currently really enjoying it on the 360, using a pad. Granted the handling is poop at first, but once I'd bolted on a few upgrades it was much better. Also, I think the view used counts for a lot.

the drifting is impossible!?!? am i doing something wrong? Tried with the RX-8 and could barely drift at all without spinning off. Whats the best car to use for drifiting??

You know, something has just come to mind...

does this game not have night driving or even wet weather conditions?

All the races I've had have been dry and in the daytime...... Have I missed something???

Drifting is the best bit for me at the moment, just got to be in a decent car.

Mines an E36 M3 with a few basic mods nothing mad, I can drift the whole London circuit now :D

I've just tried that TT that was posted and its a good track.

I was way off the pace and then realised i was only in the S4.:(

The main problem i have with this game is the horrible pad controls and annoying over aggressive AI. The controls arn't much of an issue as i have a wheel too, but the single played game has had me turn the xbox off, it was that frustrating.

I don't think people have been directly comparing this game with DIRT2 and FM3. Dirt 2 just seems a fun game, that makes you feel like a rally star. Its also very easy to play.

And the comparison i made with FM3 was only down to polish, which i feel Shift is lacking in.

I had fun on the TT though.

Mate bought it with the Wireless steering wheel on Saturday for the 360, we had loads of fun on it, found it raced well enough, looks and sounds great. We would rather have Forza 3 but in the mean time, perfectly good way to kill time.
