Need for Speed Time Trial Championship ** Season 2 ** (Multiplatform)

Gearing. Coming from the LP640 to the Lancer Evo X the gearing is going to feel strange & slow. This is expected. You're not doing anything wrong. Experiment with Final Drive & Sixth gear so that you approach Redline in Sixth on the long back straight. You should be hitting ~145-150mph. Once that's sorted evenly spread 2nd through 5th gears. Tweaking only required after that.

Lower your tyre pressures, somewhere in the 27-28 psi range. Have the Rear Tyre pressure slightly higher than the front. e.g. 27 Front 28 Rear. Experiment. What suits me may not suit you.

Lower the Wing settings. This car has so much mechanical grip it doesn't need a lot of Aero (Wing) downforce to keep the car planted. Start with say 6 Front - 8 Rear.

Another thing worth noting is this track is 'Smooth & Flat'. No undulations, bumps in braking zones etc. This means you can run the car lower to the ground by adjusting the ride height. The lower the car's ride height the more stable & planted the car will feel.

Generally the lower the ride height the stiffer the spring settings. Set the Front & Rear springs stiffer until you get juddering/skipping (normally in the rear) then go a step back. There are other things you can do to combat this juddering but I'll go into to that at a later date.

Hopefully that will help a little.

I've been thinking for a while about doing a 'Simple' tuning guide. Nothing too indepth, I'm no expert. Something along the lines of the order in which one undertakes tuning & why you are making the change. Where possible I'll try & use everyday examples e.g. riding a bike to put it in layman terms.

i'm not oging to post a scren shot as i can get passed 57.125! think i need to tune my car but dont have a clue where to start

See above for a few tips

finally into the 54's...

1.2's separates the top ten. Top eight less than a second. This is going to be a real close fight as I predicted. Easy car to drive. Nice circuit with ride run offs

thanks that is quite helpful :) i think my main downfall will be downforce as im running it at full :p

that would be quite useful.

Damn fraps!!

Just had half hour, and got 54.550, but no screeny :(

But i must admit, i was bored :( ... soz but i was, first car/track combo that has been this way. Not really looking forward to doing it again to get a screeny :(

But its not hard to get to 54 ish seconds.

Soz inam22 no offence to you ;)

To be honest with you i didn't put too much thought on car/track combo but i think its great to see so many people so close to each other and every one is within chance of winning with bulls eye lap at any time.

Hey Wedge I was a bit like that at first, but I'm enjoying it now, in a different way than previous weeks. Mainly because it's pushing me to learn the tuning stuff. I think it's tuning knowledge as well as driving ability that will win this week. I found a really useful guide on the Live for Speed forums, and it seems to translate to Shift quite well http://en.lfsmanual.net/wiki/Basic_Setup_Guide . It hasn't resulted in me improving my time any yet mind you :)

Touch quicker..

Knocking a couple of tenths off this week feels as satisfying as knocking a second off last week - great fun.

got off work early today.. so I finally managed to put a few laps in..
found it a bit boring to be honest.. but anyway..

by setting downforce to 0 and tunning a bit the gearbox.. gave me this:

Very good time grs. In fact everybody sub 54.5 has a very good time.
grs has the right idea here, you need minimal downforce levels. Certainly the rear wing should be set no higher than level 2 to minimise drag once you get used to taking the corners.
T-1 - You should be braking from 6th down to 5th for this turn if your gearing is set right. On the approach DON'T whack on the brakes, dab the brakes whilst dropping to 5th. Off the brakes turn in & try to follow the racing line without scrubbing too much speed off. It doesn't matter too much if you run the wide curbing on the exit, try & take the corner with the least amount of resistance (tyres screeching). Accelerating towards the next turn you should be changing up to 6th around the pit exit on your right.
T-2 - Two ways to take this corner. 1. Brake early just as you enter the red zone dropping to 3rd, turn in & hug the curbing round the whole corner i.e. well inside the predicted racing line. 2. Brake later well into the red zone dropping to 3rd, as your coming off the brakes turn in & power round following the racing line. This is where you may be experiencing the juddering I mentioned in an earlier post. If you are, soften the rear suspension by one notch until it's eliminated.
T-3 - Again two ways to approach this turn. 1. On approach you should be red lining 6th gear. Brake late dropping to 4th & power round just missing the left curbing (if you take too much curb the front pushes out forcing you too wide for T-5). 2. Brake early dropping to 4th, (some may prefer 3rd for a little extra bite) aim to ride A LOT of the curbing on the left. (You can have ALL four wheels on this curb without incurring a penalty)
T-5 - Try not to run too wide of the apex. The racing line is a good indicator of the line you should take. You can be quite aggressive with the car here, power sliding round. Changing down from 4th to 3rd turn in (no brakes) & power round feathering the throttle when necessary until you see the exit then straighten the steering to maximise traction for the run up to the start/finish.
