Need for Speed Time Trial Championship ** Season 2 ** (Multiplatform)

Thanks nikaz, can't wait to see that, should be interesting to see the expert at work.

I've been advised (on another forum) to turn off the remainder of my assists, ie, abs, traction & stability. In which case, it's probably gonna put me out of this contest for a while until I can learn to tame the beast(s) unaided.

Yeah, when I record with fraps, the framerate drops considerably and take some getting used to.

Leave ABS on. The others only slow you down so you will probably improve no end after turning them off

ABS is OK on some cars to have IMO. I wouldn't worry about turning ABS off.

Traction Control should be set to LOW if you need to use it. But I recommend you don't use it, it slows you down.
e.g. Exiting a corner - With TC ON, the car/game will sense a loss in traction (even a very slight one) & cut/reduce the power to compensate for the loss in traction resulting in a lack of forward momentum i.e. loss of speed. This effect is also present in long curves like we have in Laguna Seca.

Stability Control/Assist I've never used to my knowledge. I'm pretty sure it slows you down. I suspect every time you make a movement (Gas, brake, left, right) especially off the racing line, the game constantly cuts/adjusts the power to keep the car pointing where you want/need to go.

With TC & SC ON the cutting power effect is probably multiplied.

Yeah, all that would no doubt account for why I'm making such slow progress with regards to faster lap times, so in theory I should now be able to start seeing quicker laps. The good thing is I know the track very well now, so that helps. Just tried it without traction and stability. The car keeps oversteering and ends up facing the track the wrong way at the first hairpin.

Just take it easy for a few laps/sessions to familiarise yourself with the car. Try not to steer to harshly & always be ready to counter steer. Trust me I was all over the place with this car initially, still am sometimes.

Amazing. Even the very start you get into 4th earlier which saves time, and you end up maxing out 6th at 133mph compared to my 124mph. I noticed you did actually go down briefly to 4th at T-2 (I think you said stay in 5th before :p)
so I'll try that. I see you brake earlier than I've been doing and also not holding the brakes as long as I have been. Cool, thanks a lot for that.

My latest time. I could have gone faster but fluffed it in the final 3 turns... :(

Plenty of time to work this car and track. I am slowly getting the hang of the corners :)

Learnt something about changing gear from that video Nikaz ;) Thanks!

This really is so difficult, but I've shaved nearly another second off. I think that really is it now tho:

Oh my word, this no assist thing really works! I can really feel the acceleration now after each corner instead of that horrible dip in engine sound I used to get, its SOOO much better. After a few goes I'm starting to get the hang of the countersteering, and the car is about 75% under my control haven't quite mastered it yet, but the hairpin is more under control. Now I see how traction and stability really slows you down. I just managed to reduce by over another 2 seconds. *does a happy dance*

Slight improvement!!!!

Good time inam. I know how hard it is to get mid 32's let alone 31's.
I know this is going to sound a bit off, but I find this car more manageable the faster you go, to a point obviously. Probably the aero downforce working. When going slower you have to combat the insane turbo boost that kicks in, kicking the rear around suddenly causing the front to sway. Ideal for drifting.
I'm actually enjoying the challenge.
Get comfortable controlling this car on this track you'll all be better drivers for it, I promise you. Not many cars in this game challenge the drivers skill in throttle & steering control that this car does.

Re-installed last night and ran the patch.. Still can't help but feel that this is a bad port. OK so the actual tracks run perfectly smooth 98% of the time.. However the replays are far from perfect with frequent slight judders and when in the garage, it is very poor.. Part of a driving game is checking out the sexy lines of a car while it perfectly pans around in your garage.. and oggling at the replays.

OK the gameplay is intact but i feel the developers should go that little extra distance and give the game a decent polish. Typical EA though, get it out the door with a slight unfinished feel.

I made it to the top 10, lol.

thedoc46,

Mine's very smooth @ 1920 x 1080 maxed out. Fraps gives me 54 to 55fps. I don't have vsync on.

There is an occassional framerate dip and judder for about a second or so while watching cars rotate in the garage, but it's all fine and dandy on the tracks. Eye candy is all there for me, I think the cars look awesome. I read that the game prefers 8 x AA for best smoothness, dunno if that's true though. The patch really helped things in the game for me like top speed and certain things in advanced tuning. Not sure how much it affects graphics though.

Merlin, i see you say you leave vsync off? I'm just curious as to why? Whenever i leave vsync off on an LCD, it always looks horrible.. The tearing can almost be mistaken for a choppy framerate. I cannot beleive anyone in this entire world would think that it peforms better without vsync on (on a LCD I'm referring too)

Tbh, you might well be right doc, I probably should have it on. I just left it off because I'm not sure if I need it or not. Do I need to enable anything in ATI CCC if I turn vsync on in the game?

I agree with you as well Nikaz, i am enjoying the challenge as well this week but your lap time into 1.30s is just unbelievelable.

i cant help but think this is user error or a bad system(overclock, ram issues or drivers etc...) THIS GAME RUNS FLAWLESSLY FOR ME AND DOES NOT LEAVE ANY "UNFINNISHED FEEL OR CHOPPY FRAME RATES" i play a lot of pc games and this IS NOT A BAD CONSOLE PORT. i'm sorry if you feel this way but your wrong.
